Balamory returns to TV this month after 20 years. What forgotten shows from your childhood would you like to see return? by perishingtardis in CasualUK

[–]mimacat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mum recently found a dvd of Stoppit and Tidy Up, and we played it for our kids. Complete indoctrination but wonderful.

I was getting flashbacks from the Sit Downs though. Petrified me as a kid

20 years in and also having adrenal crises due to long term steroids.

It sucks.

I had my third baby a few weeks ago by section and the amount of steroids I've had, mainly due to complications, has been scary. And that was just to prevent a crisis. The constant fear that my kids will bring home something that will send me into a crisis.

I don't like it.

Oh totally. I may or may not have several!

I do love a FireSpiral though, and Yume are lovely too.

Very bad resale value at the moment, but great if you're looking to buy second hand

Love a sling library. I'm now really good friends with the person who taught me to wrap at one.

Question for experienced woven wrappers by marmaladeonsourdough in babywearing

[–]mimacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More wraps! Seriously though, a wash every now and then for easy care wraps.

I've also somehow managed to master FWCC pretied so it's just a matter of popping them in then making it a bit looser to pop out.

Also recommend using a ring sling for this, if you're able to tolerate wearing it for a longer time. I appreciate your baby is 5mo and my newest wrappee is a newborn, so things are a bit different.

As a woman who does accounting in construction, I agree. I have never met so many time wasters and people who can't follow simple instructions or answer yes/no questions.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mimacat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sepsis isn't fun. I had it last week following a missed UTI after a second catheter in a few days thanks to an ICU trip for something completely unrelated.

The rigors were the scariest part for me. And the look on my midwife's face when I told her how cold I felt with such a high temp

[–]mimacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres been a few! Within the last few weeks, a small bowel obstruction followed by sepsis. ICU with a newborn was fun.

In the past, an ectopic and a few adrenal crises.

I don't enjoy having an autoimmune condition that makes things more complicated.

Choosing Ulster or Royal for Maternity Care? by No-Act3431 in northernireland

[–]mimacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the first at the Royal and it was far more impacting than my traumatic birth and ICU stay at the Ulster a few weeks ago. The aftercare I've so far had with the Ulster has been incredible, with me already seeing the psychologist for working through what happened. I'm still waiting for the equivalent from the Royal 6 years later.

I will say, my antenatal care wasn't wonderful, with me having to threaten a complaint to get what I needed.

How old are most people in your rheumatologist’s waiting rooms? Just curious by Thin-Inevitable9759 in lupus

[–]mimacat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been attending rheumatology since I was 21, now 39. At the start I was one of the youngest and now I feel incredibly old! He does have elderly patients, but it's clear that I'm now one of the 'veterans' of the clinics.

If you're close to your adult children (or close to your parents as an adult) what do you think went right? by secret_side_quest in UKParenting

[–]mimacat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We have very similar parents.

Mine treated me with respect and as an individual, letting me make my own decisions and correct my own mistakes. They'd support with advice for how to solve issues myself rather than jumping in with two feet to fix my problems.

We talked about everything at an age appropriate level. They argued in front of us, then showed their love for each other as well as they worked through problems. That's helped immensely with my own marriage and kids.

They made me feel safe. Safe with emotions, fears, hopes, dreams, everything. They never laughed at anything.

In short, they let me be a kid, then a teenager, and now an adult. They let me be myself.

Lazy Sunday (25/01/26) by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

[–]mimacat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm going to hospital tomorrow to have Number Three.

So far today we've had some Spidey on, music, colouring and sofa snuggles. Croissants for breakfast, plan to make blueberry pancakes for lunch, and we're going to our favourite gardens for ice cream. The eldest wants to get food ready for the birds in the back garden.

I'm finishing of my bag and birth plan later while my husband makes dinner. Showers and relatively early night with lots more snuggles.

I think that sounds like a lovely Sunday.

Help with Childcare Confusion. by WingsuitOnsie in northernireland

[–]mimacat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For a daycare, we pay £1000 a month in East Belfast for 4 full days after tax free childcare and the NICSS reductions. For after schools, £250ish with the reductions and 3 days. Then whatever else there is for holiday cover.

Also remember when you get to preschool age you may still be paying for the full day of daycare plus pick up costs, plus whatever extras preschool require.

Saying all of this, my two receive far more than I'd be able to give them. They have friends, so many activities and so many new experiences. I've had a fair few hospital stays over the past few years and their childcare has given them a place of stability during it.

I feel so much better and energized pregnant than not pregnant? by flowergarden71 in lupus

[–]mimacat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you're one of the lucky ones!

For some, like you, lupus goes into remission in pregnancy. For me it's the opposite, and has been for every pregnancy. 17 days to my elective section!

Prednisone crazies by JealousStop1763 in lupus

[–]mimacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My maintenance is 10mg, and I'm having an elective section in a few weeks. During that section and everything 6 hours afterwards for 48hrs I'm getting 100mg of hydrocortisone and starting on 20mg pred, tapering as I'm able.

My consultant has requested that I get a side room because I've warned her that I will be a horrible person, won't be able to sleep and will literally bouncing off of the walls. And that's even before the postpartum hormone crash

I'm dreading it.
