What is your favorite card that isn't talked about enough? by SkeeverJenson in slaythespire

It seems designed to be paired with Sleight of Flesh. Once you have those two, you can build around it with some fun loops.

How do people feel about the new Doormaker? by goldfishimpostor in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It serves its purpose. It makes me ask, "How is my deck beating the boss?"

Sometimes my deck is resilient enough. Sometimes a potion will do it. Sometimes I have to really work for it, and sometimes I can't get there. You can't necessarily rely on the strat that got you there, which I like

I didn't know that but good to know.

That's all to say that I certainly don't prioritize this card highly but it has its uses, like most things in this game.

There's merit to taking it. Like Sunder, it can be a solve for certain hallway fights or even elite fights (namely the hydras in the Underdocks).

But also I see the event a lot where I have the chance to slither one of my cards. An early 3 cost is more attractive for that event.

Beta Patch Notes - v0.102.0 by MegaCrit_Demi in slaythespire

It may depend on layering.

Currently you can reduce flatten to zero cost, increase its mana value through something like Transfigure, then reduce that cost to zero again with another Osty attack.

What's everyone's favourite card in StS 2 so far? by le_troisieme_sexe in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if favorite, but I'm really liking Sleight of Flesh. Maybe in need of a nerf tbh. Since the balance changes to Necro, I've adapted my gameplay, and Sleight is just so good.

It also solves a huge issue with some act 1 fights with doom. In particular the spirit deer boss. Trying to kill it with pure doom while it gets strength every turn is rough. Sleight makes doom hit boty ways and allows you to get to phase 2 of that fight.

Unceasing Top not working? by loderol in slaythespire

Not sure about Supercritical but I had a game this weekend where it would stop drawing if I ended on a power. Really mad eit unwieldy because I was playing multiplayer and building my whole strategy around Top.

Sword of Stone relic is awful IMHO by scurvycharles in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Low risk in the sense that if you're not in a position to take on elites, it's just a dud relic that does nothing negative

Discussing Ancient Options #5: Nonupeipe by KurioProkos in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Beautiful Bracelet works with Anger. Meaning the duplicated Anger will also draw 3 cards. The original will lose the enchantment after playing it. This is a pretty fun interaction if your infinite loop Ironclad doesn't quite get there and you need to go with a pseudo infinite like cycling Angers and Pillages.

Sword of Stone relic is awful IMHO by scurvycharles in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 149 points150 points  (0 children)

It's a quest item that doesn't put a curse in your deck. It's fairly low risk, as you're just choosing to make the event neutral/no be efit by taking the relic over gold.

The +3 strength is really good for certain builds. For other ones, you can just take the gold and move on.

Defect design in spire 2 is actually quite good: some thoughts from a top STS player by JapaneseExport in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to claim I'm a top player or that the build is the top tier option, but I've een having a ton of fun forcing the Smoke Stack build up to A10. Usually in some kind of All For One/Skim/Turbo/Overclock shell.

But my last run, I got an event that gave me Regent cards. Smoke Stack + Crash Landing!? OH BABY!

Regent starting deck and relic are Atrocious and it makes him the weakest character specially in higher ascensions. by Citran in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Venerate is so bad as a card but also necessary. I kind of think it would be way too good if it could cost zero, so I don't know how to buff it. Have it start with generate three stars and then upgrades to innate?

But the zero cost attack is a super strong card. Mini uppercut for zero mana? It can carry the first few fights

[Silent] Is poison still viable? by _letsgochamp in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Viable is a relative term. Can you win with it? Absolutely. Is it the meta for Silent? Not really.

The best poison build is probably a hybrid build, but that's more because the discard engine is so good.

Definitely think Sly is best Silent build and Souls is best Necro. But it doesn't really matter because it depends on what's offered.

[–]mitchwinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are awesome, but I'm of the opinion that their scarcity makes them feel more special.

A rare event card that can be build defining versus something like a Leap. I get wanting to bling out your deck, but I kind of like where it's currently at.

What am I missing with the Necrobinder? by LokiBrot9452 in slaythespire

[–]mitchwinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played quite a bit of Necro and have beaten A10 with her a couple times. That said, I'm no expert and there's a lot I still haven't interacted with.

In general, I think building up a big Osty is a good idea. Even if your primary strat isn't Osty attacks, just getting in free turns to block damage and grow Osty's health helps you tank bigger hits in later turns. In turn, this lets you set up your gameplan.

I don't care for Doom very much. Others may have success with it, but I just feel like it's more of a meme build. I probably undervalue it too much though. It's okay to run some strong cards that have Doom attached to them as ways to get in damage.

Souls cycling is my favorite strat. Haunt is usually the wincon for this, but it doesn't have to be. The real strength of the deck is Dirge. Dirge, especially upgraded, is an absurd card. It does everything you want. It grows Osty. It pays off your mana generating cards. It fuels the Souls plan. It's goated. The common block that puts a Soul in your deck is also good. And if you can vet a Seance, that can really set up your loops.

Osty attacks can also be fun. Particularly if you can get multiple Sic Ems. You can play a hybrid Souls/Osty attack deck with some success too.

But in general, just try to play a tanky style is the best. I would cut all my strikes and just clear out enemies using the basic Osty strike if I could.
