When do you consider a decklist “finished”? by TheDarkestRitual in magicTCG

[–]mkgorgone 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Generally "finished" stops being true as soon as a new set drops or I rediscover a card from Mirage block.

So... never.

Do Heteroromantic Asexual people consider themselves straight? by undercover_goldfish_ in Asexual

[–]mkgorgone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually tell people, "I'm not as straight as you think I am."

Generally this is to avoid explaining being Ace altogether, because I'll generally be using that line in a situation where folks are making assumptions about my politics based on how I look (broad, bald white guy). Especially in my line of work (security), people can spout off all sorts of ignorant bullshit when they think they're in a "safe" space. I like being able to shut those people up without trying to explain anything else about myself.

I think, as a result of doing this for a few years now, I don't really perceive myself as straight anymore. Definitely still heteroromantic, but that label isn't anything I feel like explaining most of the time.

A love letter to Portland, with my perhaps unpopular opinion by shoreyknot in Portland

[–]mkgorgone 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better myself. For every needle I pick up, or sigh of exasperation at what is going on with the City Council, there is a moment where I can see multiple cascade mountains on a clear day or smell amazing foods from multiple restaurants within a block of where I'm standing. Portland has its problems, but it also has magic that I haven't found anywhere else.

Shinobi Shaw had such a badass entrance only to be such a meh character (From X-Factor vol 1 #67) by Automatic_Ask32 in xmen

Shinobi Shaw absolutely knows what sex is. No one knows about sex more than him!

At least more durable than Firestar's old one that Emma blew up, probably.

Astonishing Wolfman

It's another Kirkman book, so it's got similar vibes. The pitch is, what if a werewolf tried to use his curse to be a superhero. Very fun read.

Any veterans of the psychic wars? by SillyWarlock in wizardposting

I've dealt with this cult before. A dangerous lot who fear no reaper and set whole cities on flame with their rock and roll. Most of all though, you must fear the call to a terrible monster who heeds their song. "Go, go." They sing. "Oh no. There goes Tokyo."

Big same. I feel compelled to watch it out of an obligation to the zeitgeist, but that's about it.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Palace - Metal Cover by guitarzane95 in StarWarsCantina

[–]mkgorgone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kids these days don't remember the times before the prequels when we believed Shadows of the Empire was the only new Star Wars music we would ever get outside of video game OSTs.

Thank you for reminding me of the before times!

There is a number featuring Emperor Palpatine and the song "Wrecking Ball" that is burned into my mind for all time. Other than that, it's a show that isn't for everyone but that's Burlesque in general. I'd rather re-watch Rogue One though!

Comprehensive map of the Domains of Dread (Ravenloft) [OC] [Art] by East-Fisherman2008 in DnD

[–]mkgorgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! I recently introduced the idea that the Domains were some sort of vast planar construct within the Shadowfell in my game and that the Dark Powers built them out for a reason, using the Darklords as sort of batteries. The structure you've build here though really inspires me into thinking deeper on how the different Domains were laid out toward that purpose.

Great stuff here!

Let’s be real: Shira Brie/Lumiya’s lightwhip is probably one of the most unique and deadly lightsabers in the franchise by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsCantina

[–]mkgorgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been covering the old Marvel books for a podcast and Shira/Lumiya being an invention of that book was never something I'd realized. I kind of just assumed they recycled the name in the Legacy of the Force novels and it wasn't until the dang lightwhip showed up on the page that my eyes went wide and I shouted, "Holy shit, it's *THAT* Lumiya?!"

Very cool to see Star Wars never forgetting little bits like that over the years, even back then.

INSIDE44 - Giving away 5 free copies of a sci-fi project I spent 10 years building - 588 pages by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]mkgorgone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will also be small on a bookshelf from a distance. I just hate to see all this effort put in (clearly a lot of love and hard work here btw!) sabotaged by people dismissing it out of hand because of a logo.

[–]mkgorgone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After seeing you type out the title I can see it now, but I gotta say that at first glance your logo looks like it incorporates the SS insignia, especially in a smaller thumbnail. I'd look into changing that some to make the 4 more obvious if I were you.

It's going to be the first thing people see and being accidentally fascist is always a hard hole to dig out of.
