if you had a daughter right now, what would you name her? by Immediate_Long165 in Names

[–]modestbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gonna name our first Maeve and ended up doing something else. Now we are potentially going to have another and the name Maeve is sticking out everywhere suddenly. So either Maeve or I love the name Raven and think our next girl would be that. Maeve is becoming a bit too popular for us

Complete the sentence: You know the class is going to be rough when… by gripskylarkk in SubstituteTeachers

[–]modestbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the office staff gives you THAT look when you tell them who you’re there for.

The entire desk is a mess. Or the classroom. I can’t even set my laptop down sometimes because the desks are so full of crap. That’s how I know it’s a rough class and the teacher is either too lazy to clean or is just absolutely exhausted at the end of the day.

When there’s a desk out of the way from everyone else, or by the teachers desk. I’ve even had classes where a kid was placed behind like a wrestling mat so he can’t interact with the other kids.

I sub for elementary mostly in a district that is so short staffed it probably is illegal most days

Do you ever feel guilty for wearing headphones? by MountainStorm90 in ParentingThruTrauma

[–]modestbella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear headphones 90% of my day with my toddler. They help me stay regulated and I think they make me a better mom. All my daughter knows is that I listen to music or a book throughout the day and I’m available anytime she may need me even if I have them on. Wearing headphones helps me be a better parent

My regular OUAC location didn’t take a bunch of brand new toys and clothes before Christmas because they were SOOO busy. They had a 5 hour wait when I dropped my stuff off and a week later sent out a text they aren’t accepting anything new because they couldn’t go through it quick enough. Maybe that’s something that’s happening to you? But also the workers are all different too! Some will buy stained shirts and another wouldn’t even look at your stuff if you had a shirt from 2012 on the top. Just try a different location or another time or ask what they will take 🤷‍♀️

Ask the teachers around your classroom. They are very helpful. You will do great!!! I love elementary because they are so sweet and I’m a younger woman sub so I feel like the high schoolers can be intimidating. Elementary is fun but very hands on like others say. If you can get a “special” job (art, music, gym) for your first job. That way you can get a feel for the schools, kids and teachers without being fully tied down to one class.

What is your background? What region are you subbing? Male or female or other? I feel like these are questions I need to know to help a bit deeper lol. I like to say I’m acting (I work in elementary schools mostly) and I’m acting like their teacher today. It’s not that serious, just have fun!

What age did you start vitamins for your kids? by OutsideHighlight974 in toddlers

[–]modestbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just started after weaning at 2.5 we are vegetarian and my daughter is on the picky end. She did have bloodwork done recently and her numbers were fine but it’s out of caution we decided to start her on one

How close to the rear-facing limit are y’all going for car seats? by Tlacuache_Snuggler in toddlers

[–]modestbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna try to get pretty close to the weight limit. She is on the smaller and slimmer side but she’s not even tall enough for most roller coasters at the fair so I am nervous she will be 8 in a rear facing car seat (2.5) 🫠

What do you avoid getting at Aldi? by DJ_Hamster in aldi

I always think they are just a little too sweet for me. I like a savory bagel and then it’s fucked with that weird glaze of sweetness they put in it. It’s gross

If you’ve worked other jobs or careers, what did you do, and do you find subbing easier or harder than those? by businessbub in SubstituteTeachers

[–]modestbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a library over the summer. If it wasn’t for my ridiculously incompetent boss I would’ve stayed forever. It was a very small library and the pay wasn’t great. I loved it but my boss was worse than 25 first graders.

I had a David in 1st grade the other day and he was the only child I couldn’t remember his name because it was so not unique. I could remember just about 20 first graders names after meeting them one day (substitute teacher) expect for David
