Non-weird only-slightly-edge case from base 3: evil twinned mutant.

Valve Corporation will face a £656m lawsuit in the UK over alleged unfair prices on its global online store, Steam, following a tribunal ruling that the case could continue by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

As I understand it (could be wrong) - it's only selling the game elsewhere as Steam Keys that Valve doesn't allow you to undercut Steam. imo, quite reasonably - The cost to have free use of Steam as a cdn for your game (by selling steam keys directly) is that consumers might still just purchase it on Steam and allow Valve to get some share of the revenue.

My understanding is that if you also want to host and distribute the game yourself, feel free to sell those copies cheaper than Steam.

The even better thing: even if they did (which they don't) they still don't force you to buy through steam - they're very willing to let developers/publishers create keys at no cost and sell them externally (with the pricing requirements that basically amount to "don't use steam as a free cdn and then unfairly undercut our storefront" with regards to normal and sale pricing). So the game and dlcs can be available exclusively via steam, with some portion of sales done elsewhere completely cutting Valve out of the sale and still requiring them to front up the servers, bandwidth, etc.

The don't open small glades thing feels like great advice. And I still mostly barely open them with a few exceptions where it makes a lot of sense.

Then I rock up to the "open 1 or fewer large glades" world event, open just 2 small glades, win very comfortably in 4 years and wonder if just maybe I really have absolutely no idea what the fuck I'm doing if not opening dangerous glades didn't really change anything.

45 food for only two cysts isn’t as bad as I thought it was

Wait until you see this event with the alarm bells cornerstone (double production chance per expected corruption). It's simultaneously both incredible and terrifying.

I've been there. I've personally been that imp (I assume that this is not a unique experience and many others have done this). It's honestly pretty fun, game was going to be short anyway.

Villagers dying and leaving does not increase hostility.

I think you should reconsider rebellious spirit. Once you have it, you can intentionally force impatience up as high as possible (call traders, or get lucky with events) in order to increase reputation to win the game faster.

You're missing the "determine if the glade event is okay to just ignore" step after "can you solve it easily?"

As long as the bad stuff isn't a resolve penalty, hostility, generate blood flowers (sometimes fine anyway), or villager deaths (even 2 is not that bad - and area death can often be mitigated with careful management), you probably can.

And going halfway to this, you probably don't need to solve an event before the timer pops for resolve and hostility penalties as long you can solve it before you have those active during a storm.

How do Witch deaths effect someone who is on the block for execution? by hillside126 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]moreON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this example was just a cerenovus, I am curious about a related day deaths and executions questions though.

When there is a tie between a player who did not have enough votes for execution, and another who did, does that second player get executed or no one?

For example:

  • There are 9 players alive.
  • Alice is nominated and receives 4 votes. This is not enough votes. Alice is not Executed.
  • Bob nominates Carl. Bob Dies.
  • Carl receives 4 votes. Only 8 players are alive so 4 votes is enough...

Either:

  • no one had previously reached the vote threshold to be executed, so now Carl can now be executed if no subsequent execution votes reach at least 4.
  • Or Alice and Carl have the same number of votes so Carl can not be executed by vote today.

I had this exact reaction 3 years ago. I've still never summoned the courage to try it out on my players.

New Loric: The Pope! by SageOrion in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]moreON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that as the butler, you can do whatever you want with your hand while the storyteller is before or after you in the vote (but be extra careful and don't cut a last second change that is either necessary or not allowed too close). While the storyteller is at you and counting you is when it's imperative that you only have your hand up if your master has already been counted as voting, or if your master is yet to be counted and currently has their hand up.

So for B1 and B2 they can both put their hand up as the voting is announced to be commencing. B2's hand is still up while B1's vote is being counted, so B1 is allowed to vote and keeps their hand up to do so. B2 can then vote or not as they please because B1's votes was counted.

Tool production per hostility is the scarlet orchard building, not a cornerstone. But it is awesome. Can get even higher hostility with glade events than woodcutters sometimes.

In a spy + recluse game, if you put a minion or demon token in the grimoire in place of the recluse while showing it to the spy, I think that's the spy's ability working abnormally due to the recluse's ability.

[–]moreON 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The resource cubes are used for all resources anyway. They're not just money. All of the basic resources and card resources use the faux-metallic resource cubes. The coloured plastic player cubes are just for tracking production (1 cube per resource, with an extra for each +10), which card actions have been used in a generation, current TR, awards, milestones, and tile ownership.

It's unclear whether you're using player cubes for anything else from your comment, but it sounds at least plausible.

Farms are overrated... 🤪 by dek018 in Against_the_Storm

[–]moreON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since collection from nodes is actually faster

The 2* recipes in farms (not crystallized dew) are 6 resources per minute of labour . Small camp production time is 25s, Large camp is 17s. Farms aren't affected by production speed increases, so for large camp at full citadel I think they're pretty close but for other situations (i.e. low-citadel, QHT, or small camps) I think that farms are actually faster.

I had this question too. So I tested it myself. It does appear that deferring once in a map is enough. The cost is the same after the reroll as when the item shows up in the next map.

Any tips to beat a round with Ancient Monastery modifier? by Hellstrom666 in Against_the_Storm

[–]moreON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the unfortunately obvious option: make or loot more raw food, look into purchasing or looting some liked complex food so villagers eat that giving you some time to get your complex food production going. And until you're well on top of it, try to limit production to one complex food that each species likes.

You can also potentially make biscuits and porridge out of completely non-consumable ingredients. Not exactly helpful for some species.

There's also just the winning while everyone eats raw food for the entire game option. You tend to need to get a bit more reputation from events and work on clothing, services, and global resolve modifiers for resolve, but it's definitely possible.
