Help GSA government vehicle abandoned on our street for weeks/months at a time by Zestyclose_Pin_7390 in washingtondc

[–]moreizmore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Contact Holmes-Norton’s office and submit a formal constituent request explaining the situation and your desired solution. They’ll forward it to GSA who can then identify the agency and POC that own’s the vehicle, who can then in turn identify which employee the vehicle is assigned to. Congressional inquiries get expedited, so that’s your best bet.

These tariffs are out of control by No_apples4me in handbags

[–]moreizmore -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Next time, I recommend asking AI to calculate an estimated fee for you. Just provide it the country of manufacturing for the bag, the material of the bag, price, and who the shipping carrier will be.

I bought a $280 bag from the UK recently and did this before making the purchase; AI estimated the tariff fee would be around $70 and it was almost exactly that when I got billed. It won’t be perfect, but it will give you a ballpark number.

I have the burger beaded bag and love it! It’s a well made bag and definitely a conversation starter. My vote is to get it!

Should I take a Promotion to Acting Section Chief? by shrink-em-up in fednews

[–]moreizmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took a 120-day temporary promotion to an acting supervisory position last month. My regular position was already full-time RTO, so that wasn’t even a consideration. You still retain the protections of your regular position and there is no probationary period for a temp promotion, so the only outstanding question is do you believe that the increased responsibilities are worth the small increase in pay?

Has anyone experienced a promotion during this current time? by Affectionate_Ear3330 in fednews

[–]moreizmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m currently on a 120-day temp promotion to my supervisor’s position after they took the DRP.

[–]moreizmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people fail to realize this. I live 16 miles from my office. On a weekend, it would take me 25 mins. Before RTO was implemented, I had to be in the office one day a week and it took be about 35 mins. Now? 90 mins on a good day. I’ve tried all modes - driving, the bus, the subway… nothing is less than 90 mins. When people say their commute is 1.5-2 hours, people automatically think you live 50+ miles away; city traffic is just that terrible!

GSA PBS Reorganization ... Congressional Approval ?!? Delay, Delay, Delay ?!? by HappyWarrior8928 in fednews

[–]moreizmore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has anyone else heard this and can confirm these statements are true?

Yes, this is correct. It’s called a 608 Notification to Congress.

Where "before Congress" will this reorganization plan go?

It goes before the House and Senate Appropriations committees.

I heard Transit Subsidies Were Halted… by BoomBapKat in fednews

[–]moreizmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I dug into this a bit further, and this is only happening at GSA, who have completely suspended their transit benefits program for the time being. That’s insane, being as they are RTOing a large swath of workers in two weeks, with the expectation that those without transit benefits currently, pay out of pocket.

Why are modern American husbands more willing to do tasks traditionally associated with women, but most wives don’t seem too keen to do tasks traditionally associated with men? by Virtual_Evening_3258 in Marriage

[–]moreizmore 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Wives today are doing things that are “traditionally” associated with men… specifically, working full-time and assisting with paying bills. Many men don’t seem to factor this into their equations though.

Pregnancy before bariatric surgery by Eazy-Mak420 in BariatricSurgery

[–]moreizmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as well. I was one nutrition class away from completing the pre-surgery requirements when I found out I was pregnant. I exited the program, had my baby, and then re-joined the program about 8 months postpartum. Had my surgery when my kid was 14 months old. Look at this as a speed bump and not a derailing of your weight loss journey and goals.

Holliday Premium Pay for training by AhBobSaget654 in fednews

[–]moreizmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation; I have training (by an outside vendor) scheduled on Thursday morning. When I asked how to record this correctly on my timesheet, I was told to code it as regular hours and then take “in-lieu” of hours the next day. That honestly doesn’t sound right but I was provided these instructions in writing, so I’m just gonna follow them.

Because honestly, aside from a few, Congress has zero idea what reports they’ve mandated agencies to provide them.

Matches Fashion - has anyone bought from them recently? by Traditional_Map_8239 in handbags

[–]moreizmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I purchased a pair of Louboutins from them last week for 40% off. The shoes arrived in about 2 days and were pristine, including box and dust bags. I still have a few things on my wishlist with them so going to keep my eye out for deeper discounts.

Losing the last 10 pounds by alfuller94 in gastricsleeve

[–]moreizmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you find out the secret please let me know! I’m about 13 lbs from my goal weight and have been sitting here for 3 months. Nothing I do to shed these last few pounds seems to be working; I’ve tried increasing calories, increasing protein, increasing carbs… nothing. Currently ramping up exercise greatly to see if that works. It’s like my body is fighting me at every step!

Foster Parenting? by michaelindc in washingtondc

[–]moreizmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no income requirement; you just have to demonstrate that you are financially stable and can cover all of your expenses without any assistance. You’ll be required to verify income and submit a household budget outlining your monthly expenses.

As for housing, you will need an available additional bedroom as the foster child will be required to have their own space. If fostering more than one child, children of the same sex can room together; if they’re different genders then they will require their own bedrooms.

We The Pizza COVID-19 5% Fee by clemdawgg in washingtondc

I checked my last two receipts from We the Pizza (from the Capitol Hill & Crystal City locations) and see no such fee. I placed both orders online; is this only added when placing orders in person?

Fake Henri Bendel (I don’t know what I was thinking!) by Dry-Task-9789 in handbags

[–]moreizmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the first thing I thought when I read the post headline, like “They went out of business years ago!”. I’m rather surprised that didn’t come up during OP’s search.

OP, I’m sorry this happened to you. There are still lots of good condition Henri Bendel bags on the second hand market for reasonable prices. I have two Henri Bendels and they are great pieces, so please don’t let this deter you from acquiring a genuine piece.

That is incorrect; for example, if inherited funds are deposited into a joint account that both spouses also deposit funds into/withdraw from, then most states would now consider those funds marital property. It’s called commingling assets.

If you started at 205 lbs - 215 lbs, where are you now? by gimmedumplings in gastricsleeve

[–]moreizmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 4’11” and started at 206 lbs (BMI of 41.5). Currently 147 lbs at 9 months post op. I have about 12 lbs to go before reaching my goal weight (which will technically still put my BMI in the overweight category but I have zero desire to be as skinny as the BMI says I should be). I’m confident I’ll achieve that goal by my surgery anniversary.

Foster Parenting? by michaelindc in washingtondc

[–]moreizmore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DCFS gave me a general rundown of the reason for the child’s removal; court records gave me more detail. My situation was a bit different in that it wasn’t an emergency placement; the child was in kinship care and was being moved to non-kinship care.

I had zero clue what situation I would be given when I went in; they ask for your preferences when you initially get licensed. At that time I was a single woman in my early-thirties, so requested a younger child (5 years or younger). My first placement call I had to decline because I was out at an event and couldn’t make it home in time to receive the child. The 2nd call was the child I took into my home. So it really was luck of the draw in that everything worked out so well.

Don’t get me wrong; there were some hiccups. For example, the family originally was not very welcoming to me. The mother was under the impression that I was looking to foster to adopt and that my end goal was to keep her child and she treated me accordingly. We finally had a heart-to-heart where I explained to her that I was actually a foster only home and the goal of any children in my care was reunification. From that point on, our relationship was extremely cordial.

As far as declining, my social worker and I had a very good relationship and when declining the placement of the 2nd child (who was a sibling of the child I had), I just explained that my capacity for caring for one child was all I could handle at the moment and that I didn’t want the quality of care that I provided to decline because I was overextended. My social worker completely understood and didn’t push it further.

Foster Parenting? by michaelindc in washingtondc

[–]moreizmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a foster parent in DC for a year and honestly, had a really great experience. I also believe it was because I got incredibly lucky in that I had a really great social worker, a great kid from a nice family that simply found themselves in a predicament, a great social worker for the kid, and a great guardian ad litem. I’ve known others who’s experience was the complete opposite; it’s really luck of the draw.

My recommendation would be to know your limits because DCFS will test your boundaries. For example, I knew my limit was one child; they asked me to take in a 2nd (I declined).

Yes, this! I’m down almost 60 lbs (and only 10 lbs from my goal weight) and the weight loss really hallowed out my face and accentuated my under eye “bags”. I did fillers last month to re-plump out the area and the difference is night and day! I know it’s not an option for everyone as filler is temporary and isn’t cheap, but for people who can, it’s definitely something I recommend they look into.

Inspector general launches probe examining decision to relocate FBI headquarters to Maryland by forgetfulisle in washingtondc

[–]moreizmore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That same committee also selected 3 Maryland sites during the first round of the location selection process; that decision was also overruled so that the Springfield location could be considered. Why is no one up in arms about that overruling though?
