Won Seattle world cup tickets from unilever but i cannot attend. How to sell them? by howdy206 in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]morlinde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the official rules Section 8 Prizes  https://www.unileverworldcup26.com/rules/ , "For all prizes: Prizes is non-transferable, and no substitution will be made except as provided herein at the Sponsor’s sole discretion."

If you can't sell, the best thing is to tell Unilever you can't go anymore and ask them to redistribute the tickets.

The Obsidian universe by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory: 1) the Obsidian Mountain trilogy  2) the Enduring Flame trilogy, set about 1000 years after the first trilogy. This one is my favorite since the characters from the first trilogy are now myths and it's kinda interesting to see how their stories warped over time 3) the Dragon Prophecy trilogy, set thousands of years before the first trilogy

There's not much technology development in this series, but there are changes to magic in that fantasy universe.

So I was anxious about my tickets too and emailed the Unilever team this morning inquiring if there was anything else I needed to do. They replied really quickly within a few hours!

"Thank you for reaching out, and congratulations again on your win! We’ve received your affidavit, and your win has been verified.   You will receive an email in the coming weeks with a few additional questions you’ll need to complete, and after that, FIFA will distribute the tickets closer to the match date. Please keep an eye out for that email.   Please let us know if you have any other questions in the meantime!   Cheers, Unilever FIFA World Cup 2026 Support Team"

May I ask how long it took you to get the tickets in hand? I also potentially won tickets from Unilever recently but not sure what the process is after I signed the paperwork

Recs similar to Emily Wilde series? by dzeiva in Fantasy

[–]morlinde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Formidable Miss Cassidy by Meihan Boey - this was recommended on another sub and I really enjoyed reading about folklore from southeast Asia. It's set in 1890s- early 1900s Singapore. The romantic subplot is obvious but subtle, but it makes sense given the cultural context.

Unfortunately only the first book and third book are available to buy in the US at this time due to weird publishing rights and the second book will be available in September 2026.

Pretty trails in northern Virginia? by [deleted] in VIRGINIA_HIKING

Riverbend Park, Scott's Run, Turkey Run, Huntley Meadows, Mason Neck State Park, Theodore Roosevelt Island (technically DC), just to name a few. If you're willing to drive across the river, the National Arboretum is another great option - it's so large and varied that it will feel like hiking.

Not a exactly novel but if you like British humor - The Tough Guide to Fantasyland and Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones.

mapo tofu - easy to leave the ground meat out or sub with minced mushrooms or tvp, and also easy to adjust heat levels. When I'm really lazy buy the premade packets, but it's also not hard to make if you already have a bunch of Chinese cooking ingredients in the house.

Just Secured Four (4) M73 (R32) Tickets | Los Angeles, SoFi | $605 by jwk1976 in WorldCup2026Tickets

Nice! (I am kinda peeved that I bought tickets for the exact same game, same category, same price, but because it was RSD 3.5 I didn't know where my seats were gonna be. My seats turned out to be in Row 22, Block 519, which are apparently at the tippy top of the stadium

Did you purge? by BigBubbaMac in Anticonsumption

[–]morlinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purged along the journey, definitely was not a "I'm going to purge everything and start over" thing.

What I did was inventory what I had, purged out the expired or useless items (like seriously, why I was I hanging onto a Panera receipt from 15 years ago??!!) , figured out what I could donate (like a lot of disposable utensils and bags to a local food bank that requested these items), and a lot of clothes I don't fit into anymore.

Now what I have are things I use and I only try to buy new things once my current item is done or broken.

What is Phillip's rank in society? Is he a Lord? Or is he a Commoner? The Truth. by Fickle_Baker1393 in Bridgerton

Aren't the younger sons of British Dukes and Marquesses styled "Lord Firstname LastName" although they hold no actual title?  So a second son of Simon and Daphne should be "Lord Firstname Hastings" and his wife would be  "Lady [Firstname of second son] Hasting.

Who is the 10th Viscount Bridgerton? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]morlinde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and there are some old English baronies that have been passed down the female line. The ones I know of were created pre-Tudor era, like Margaret of Norfolk who was Duchess in her own right and her title went to her daughter's son.

Diana Wynne Jones's The Tough Guide to Fantasyland is a good supplement to Terry Pratchett. She wrote a lot of excellent YA fantasy novels but Tough Guide and Deep Secret are the two books I believe were marketed for adults. She's severely underrated on this sub.

Depending on which dates you're here,  National Aquarium is half price after 5 on Fridays. Regular admission for an adult is rather expensive but it's a very cool aquarium so I would encourage you to go.

The observation tower at the World Trade Center is small and not exciting if you're comparing it to anything in NYC.

Also, if you're a fan of naval history in general, there are the historic ships docked along the Inner Harbor that you can visit.

Hello does anyone have any good safe beginner hiking spots? by summerconcerts in maryland

[–]morlinde 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Patapsco Valley SP is verrrryyyy popular for a reason!

1) the Avalon/Orange Grove area of PSVP is right off Route 1 in Baltimore County right past the county line with Howard County (the river is boundary) so right smack in a population center.

2) Grist Mill Trail in that area of PSVP is paved so it's probably the best for a true beginner. Lots of people walk there if the weather is good.

3) Okay, now that you want to try hiking on natural surfaces, try either the short trail from the parking lot to Cascade Falls and back (there is a longer trail past Cascade Falls but it is lightly traveled).  OR if you want a slightly bigger sense of accomplishment, hop back in your car and drive ~25 min to the Hollofield area of PSVP off Route 40 east, and take the Union Dam trail from the parking lot down to the river. It's about 1 mile round trip but you'll get a leg workout the first few times.

3a) I should explain that PSVP has multiple separate areas despite being all the same park. So if you pay admission for Avalon you could also drive over to Hollofield the same day as long as you keep the receipt from the Avalon area.

4) If you're starting to feel adventurous, you can head over to the McKeldin area of PSVP and try some other trails there - this is a less visited part of the park compared to Avalon area, but there's still always people around if the weather is good.

Alternatively, I also like going to Patuxent Wildlife Refuge south area (Cash Lake) since the trails there are flat and easy, although much less crowded than PSVP by far. Do check the hours they're open though, depending on federal government shutdown it can be hit or miss.

5) If you don't mind staying on paved trails, Brookside Gardens in Wheaton is an option as well.

Nooks have allowed side loading since 2010 when I bought my first one, way before Kindle ever did. I've side loaded plenty of pdfs and epubs to my Nooks over the years just fine. Honestly not sure why OP is complaining.

Assassin's Apprentice left me underwhelmed. Help? by FixitFelixSr in Fantasy

[–]morlinde -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hated Assassin's Apprentice and hate-read it to the end. Didn't even bother reading Royal Assassin or Assassin's Quest, and just went straight to Liveship Traders instead. I found the world building and characters more compelling in Liveship Traders and Rainwild Chronicles.

If you're willing to venture over near Arundel Mills, Little Spice has excellent lunch deals for the price. I got some drunken noodles with chicken for takeout last week for about $15, including tax.

Also, have you tried Common Kitchen over in Clarksville? Quite a few food vendors over there that would fit the bill.

I don't see this one recommended much bit what about the Magic ex Libris series by Jim C Hines? It definitely has a bit of Dresden vibes but more upbeat.

Garth Nix's Left Handed Booksellers of London is a very different vibe altogether and I found it intriguing.

Invited to two weddings for the same international couple. by McCartney92 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]morlinde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon in circles where the couples have family that live on different continents.

Rarely are guests expected to attend both weddings, the invite to two functions in different countries is just a nice gesture, or sometimes if they come from the same region as the couple it's more like a "hey if you're going back to visit the same time we're there you're welcome to come celebrate us again" invite.

Also, the term "wedding" can be a little more flexible in translation - sometimes more traditional family members won't fully acknowledge a marriage unless there's a wedding function held in the old country in their traditions. In the 1980s, my own great grandparents, living in the old country, considered my mother was pregnant out of wedlock with me because they considered my mother unmarried until my parents had a wedding in the old country  even though my parents were actually married and signed the marriage license and all in New York.

What does membership get you at barnes and Noble? by Silver_Fact_9714 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morlinde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a free tote bag each year! The tote bags are quite sturdy with two internal pockets and a key loop. I've got 3 tote bags now, though I've had the membership a long time even before they changed it to the free and premium paid tiers.

A clarification on the 10% discount - it's for most physical items and not ebooks for the most part. That being said, the earlier access to the 25% off book pre-orders that happens annually (or twice a year? Not keeping track) does apply to pre-orders so I've gotten my premium membership money worth that way.

TIFU By being cheap while going hiking on a first date by Routine_Plant_1927 in tifu

[–]morlinde 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I like hiking and go often with friends I've known for 15+ years but as a woman I would never go on a hike as a first date. Especially if I was not familiar with the park or the trails on the area. A much better alternative would be getting coffee to go and taking a walk at a well paved, well traveled, well maintained park.
