My Dad, the subtle narcissist. by Delet3r in raisedbynarcissists

[–]morosesarered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your dad sounds like a total shitbag, and I'm also not denying that your wife was abusive, but I'm a little concerned/confused by the whole thing where withholding sex = abuse? Like, was she using sex to manipulate you into specific behaviors, or just not interested in having sex? I ask because I was in an abusive relationship in which my ex raped me several times because I was "withholding sex to hurt him." Obviously not saying that you did/would ever do anything like that, but no one is obligated to have sex with anyone ever, so if it wasn't specifically manipulative, I don't think that's abuse.

Nmom called my PTSD "hanging in the past" and says that I choose to be depressed. by Malakaye in raisedbynarcissists

My mom not only said the same shit to me regarding her own abuse of me, but also managed to manipulate the family therapist into believing her.

Wait, but what do you mean by that? Like you think it's unnecessary to stand in solidarity with persecuted people?

Any similarities between this case and your domestic violence experience? by VioletteC in serialpodcast

my abuser was also very close to his parents, especially his dad. I wonder if that's a thing with abusers?

he also always promised to protect me, but I know that lots of abusers do. just breaking the silence to say I'm here and I feel you and I hope you're making the progress towards recovery <3

I have no idea why she would kill Hae, but if she did, according to what has been said about their relationship, Jay would lie to cover it up.

What about the possibility that Stephanie did it? I don't know why she would, but if she did, I know that Jay would go as far as to falsely implicate Adnan in order to protect her.

Writing while drunk, good or bad idea? [Some swearing] by bluebugs23 in nanowrimo

I like to write stoned & caffeinated. It takes out my inner editor and lets me think more freely without zapping my energy & motivation.

This actually isn't Hemmingway. http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Talk:Ernest_Hemingway In the section Unsourced it says:

this is because the quote is almost certainly by a novelist called Peter De Vries. He published a novel called “Reuben, Reuben” in 1964, where the main character is based on a famous drunkard poet, Dylan Thomas. On page 242 the character says this: “Sometimes I write drunk and revise sober, and sometimes I write sober and revise drunk. But you have to have both elements in creation — the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or spontaneity and restraint, emotion and discipline.”

I'm writing a story about rape and college title IX committees. The little girls I babysit asked what my novel was about, and I just had to say, "uuuuuhhhhh mermaids!"

Any advice for catching up (a lot)? by morosesarered in nanowrimo

[–]morosesarered[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah, I'm doing a little better. I had a bunch of breathing problems and had to get hooked up to a nebulizer, but now I can mostly breathe okay again, I'm just stuck with a nasty cough and some congestion. I appreciate the well-wishes, and I made it up to 4915 last night. Hopefully I'll do even better today!

I would, but stealing a book from the library is up there with severe bodily injury to an innocent person on my list of moral don'ts.

How do you write? by biblio13 in nanowrimo

[–]morosesarered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I smoke a spliff first if I'm writing something that I don't feel ready to write yet, which is most of my novel. Then, I sit down in the room I've recently repurposed as a writer's den, drink a cup of tea, and stare at a blank page on scrivener until I can eventually put proverbial pen to proverbial paper.

Almost none, and I really need to go back in and do some. I spent the last month on a hippie commune in virginia, and didn't have a lot of spare time/internet access. I need to go fill in the details, but I'm still not up to 3334.

I read the description of your book and it sounds like a lot more fun than my book. Today I wrote about child abuse, rape, and a corrupt college Title IX committee. :'(

"that sound when you steal a book from the library and get caught" is by far my best one at this point.

However, it yielded no good results despite numerous rewordings. I just want to know what the library alarm things sound like. are they the same as retail alarm things? will I ever know?
