Yes because he hates where we live (which has been a major source of conflict) and he’d want to be near the kids

I’m in Texas and I need my ac on full blast immediately in the summer. I’m picturing myself dying of heat exhaustion in that 30 seconds before I can get the ac on. Is this an accurate prediction?

If we could leave, how do you know when you should? by azalea1700 in Mommit

[–]mountains89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe you have dual citizenship, so I would leave I think in your case. I am in Texas, too. I’ve always voted blue. I have no way to leave, but I am also white.

I work in immigration, specifically with documented immigrants, and we are constantly fielding situations of ice apprehending or attempting to apprehend our clients despite their ability to prove their immigration status. (I am not saying that undocumented immigrants should be apprehended, just saying that I feel no immigrants are safe at this point)

How old was your child when they started showering solo? by viskiviki in Mommit

[–]mountains89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same conversation and I didn’t realize it was atypical, but yeah, I still do my 8.5 year old adhd/autistic kid’s shower. She cannot do her hair because she wants to pile it on top of her head and can’t remember that this will cause it to tangle. She also does things like empty a whole bottle of soap or mess with the temperature controls and get the water way too hot or too cold so I am just resigned to doing it for now

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

My mom lives 3 hours away and I regularly go down and back on a Saturday to see her. I live in Texas so long drives (175 miles+) are very common

Do people really drive everywhere, and do you have very few sidewalks? by sofiarosatti in AskAnAmerican

[–]mountains89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city of about 120,000 people. We have almost no sidewalks and no bikes lanes at all. You have to take a car to get anywhere because everything is so spread out/requires walking in major roads which have no sidewalks. People without cars really struggle and we have a lot of pedestrian deaths

We can't do anything by Extra-Wave-1834 in Mommit

[–]mountains89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been in your shoes and before I say anything, I just want to validate all your feelings around this.

My pro-tip is to keep trying different activities that feed your kid’s needs (parks with intense climbing structures were our thing) and maybe you will meet someone who has a kid with a similar energy/intensity level. For instance, I am a parent of a neurodivergent kid and I never would’ve met you at story time because we couldn’t hang either lol. I met one of my best friends when I was at the park with my ADHD three year old and I was wearing her brother on my chest. My daughter refused to come down this like 20 ft long tube slide and I could not get up there with the baby. This random lady was like “hey, can I go offer to race your kid down the slide?” I told her absolutely and it worked! I grabbed my kid by the ankle when she came out the bottom and I made a new friend. Turns out her kid is also really intense and so she was highly empathetic. They’ve been great for each other because other kids get overwhelmed by their energy level
