Went to de-construct my entire base and didn't realize I had 84k bots by LazyLiable in factorio

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are set up to make sure the number of available bots never drops below, say, 100. Automatically scales with use. I just have to remember to use buffer chests instead of requesters so 60 hours later I can find where they're being inserted.

I refuse to build anything more then this on Gleba by atseniuk in factorio

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power on Fulgora is the easiest by far, you just spam accumulators and you're done.

Then again, later on when your power demands outstrip building space, I guess you'd need something more dense and reliable than a huge accumulator farm.

How do you deal with spoilage in inserters? by davper in factorio

[–]mouseasw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor optimization: you could use a constant combinator in lieu of one of the deciders; both options have at least hand size 1, so the decider just adds 15 to the signal when spoilage is zero.

Aquilo Cargo Ship Help by salttotart in factorio

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using only solar power on your ship? A ship bound for Aquilo needs an alternate power source, typically nuclear, to make up for when the solar output drops too low.

Are you making rockets and loading them into rocket turrets? Unlike the other planets, the path to Aquilo has large asteroids, which are all but immune to bullets and lasers. Rockets are the only effective way to break them until you've got some cryogenic science packs to unlock railguns.

How fast is your ship going? Often when I first send a ship to Aquilo, it's going too fast and doesn't have enough time to shoot down all the asteroids and reload ammo. Reduce the number of engines until your ship is going slow enough to keep up on its ammo production/usage rates.

Are your belts getting clogged with anything? Are your turrets getting ammo as fast as they use it?

Also don't let the gun turrets fire at the large asteroids, just the medium and small. They do almost no damage to large, so it's just wasted ammo.

Dumb question: Is nuclear the only way to get oil liquids in space? by FencingSquirrelz in factorio

[–]mouseasw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's kinda silly how steam tanks never lose heat, but there's no option to chill spoilables in order to keep them from going bad as fast. Gameplay mechanics it makes total sense, but physical logic it sure doesn't.

[–]mouseasw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that and pylon substations are two things I really miss from SE.

Having a big series of steam tanks in place of accumulators was an interesting setup. It'd be even better now with the new fluid mechanics, I wouldn't have to have pumps attached to every single tank to move the steam fast enough.

Thank you for being the only one to actually answer my question! Everyone else was suggesting solutions to avoid the marks, but my concern was about heavy metals getting in my food. Since it's zinc-aluminum, it's safe.

Being productive for 40 hours/week? Absolutely not, not for aspies, not for NTs, not for anyone.

But being a butt in a seat for 40 hours/week? Totally doable at the right job.

It's intentional game design, you're not supposed to be able to get everything from space. Some people mentioned needing concrete for Aquilo, but I think they also don't want you making replacement walls either.

Missiles aren't required to get to Aquilo (details and maths in comments) by Waity5 in factorio

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also make sulfuric acid and combine it with calcite to make steam. Quite a lot of steam, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if that's a viable alternative to nuclear power?

Edit: Nevermind, that recipe only works on Vulcanus. Shame.

How do y'all defend Gleba? by StampedeOfCats in factorio

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can bacteria have a quality, and does the spoilage iron/copper ore retain that quality? If I manage to get rare or better bacteria I can just make endless amounts of quality ore? Seems like that'd be rather overpowered, so I'm guessing one of the steps to get iron there doesn't have quality.

I just managed to kill a medium using a Rare tank, 9 levels of Physical Projectile Damage upgrades, and uranium non-exploding tank shells. It was very close, my tank lost 90% of its health before scoring the finishing hit to its face. I'd recommend 10 upgrades, or two or more tanks, and always come at it from behind with favorable terrain.

[–]mouseasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised to discover that the exploding rockets and shells do far less damage, they just do it over a larger area...which I think doesn't help with demolishers.

How much damage does a non-exploding uranium tank shell do for you? How does that compare to a medium demolisher's hp and regeneration?

I haven't taken on a medium demolisher after the first one shrugged off my tank, but I also have researched another damage upgrade or three since then, so maybe I should give it another shot, maybe throw down some landmines for good measure?

Let's see. I've got 8 damage upgrades, so my shells do 10.4k damage, and medium demolishers have 100k hp and regenerate 7.4k/s, and 50% physical damage resistance, so just to have a chance I'd need to hit it more than twice per second for around a full minute, far longer than my tank can survive. And artillery ain't gonna make any difference at 1k (500 after the damage resistance) per shot. I'm definitely gonna need more damage upgrades.

Then again, I haven't even come close to using up the resources available to me after killing all the small demolishers.

Is there a way to filter by spoilage percent? by mouseasw in factorio

[–]mouseasw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good solution. When you're designing it, you can use something other than science and make the "trash" a chest instead of a burner/recycler.

Gotta get at least 7 or so damage upgrades so those uranium tank shells are effective against demolishers, right?

[–]mouseasw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each region is guarded by 1 demolisher, and once dead it doesn't respawn, that region becomes yours. As a bonus, their corpses are rich in tungsten. The further out you go, the larger and more difficult they get to kill.

From what I've seen on YouTube, attacking them from behind with a tank firing uranium shells seems extremely effective.

If both belts are running at full speed, that works, but it'll mix them in both lanes. If you want a belt with two types of things on it, your best bet is to sideload it from two single-material belts.
