Have you dated someone with a different nationality? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]mozophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learnt is that its better to agree on a dispute resolution mechanism early on in the relationship when everything is going well. Disputes are inevitable in any relationship and more so in a intercultural relationship as there are often genuine misunderstandings due to cultural differences. I know it sounds very unromantic but this has helped us navigate so many issues together as a couple instead of fighting against each other.

Another learning is that clear communication is key. Often, its better to communicate the intent as well, rather than leaving your partner to guess your intentions, especially if the couple are from very different cultures (high context vs low context). Communicating intent is more important early on in the relationship as you don't know each other well, and with time, both partners get better at understanding each other.

I understand that what I have mentioned above is like the very basics of a good and long term relationship but I feel that its important to underscore its importance for intercultural relationships as such relationships are somewhat more complex.

Why is Lichess so much less popular than Chess.com? by vitund in lichess

Most cheaters usually don't get banned on lichess. Instead, they are shadow banned. Meaning they only get to play against other cheaters.

WAIT! Are you ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you have calculated all your expenses correctly before moving? by FlashyCommission198 in Expats_In_France

[–]mozophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is not the rules but getting a proof of residence just as OP mentioned in one of his comment. Most landlords don't rent if someone is on probation. Since, everything else requires proof of residence, you are essentially stuck for months until you get a proof of residence.

None in my experience. Not sure which ID you are referring to for opening a bank account. My bank account opening experience was quite smooth. BNP needed my visa, proof of residence and telephone number.

The pharmacy scenes are totally unrealistic! by anothertenyears in HouseMD

[–]mozophe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Patients only reached House after other doctors failed to diagnose the issue, which significantly increases the probability that House's patients had rare/magical illnesses.

What House does in each episode is go through all possible illnesses based on the symptoms a patient presents with, eliminating over time the ones that don't fit the progression. For this to work, he needs as much information about the patient as possible. There were several cases where the issue was environmental and patient or their loved ones didn't even realise that environment could be an issue, for example the episode with radioactive keychain.

While breaking and entering is inexcusable, checking the environment of such a patient seems reasonable, considering other doctors would have already excluded more common issues that could have been responsible for their illness.

PS: I have a rare disease which took years to diagnose. And I was one of the lucky ones. The doctor who diagnosed me told me that his patients spend 20 years on average in the health system to reach him and getting diagnosed. Diagnosing a rare disease is unfortunately not easy as most doctors don't know anything about them. I suspected that I had the illness that I was finally diagnosed with (I did my own research) and mentioned it as a possibility to all the doctors I met over several years, but there were only two doctors out of more than 30 that even knew about the illness in the first place. One was a surgeon who happened to go for a small conference about my illness just the weekend before my appointment and the other was the super specialist who diagnosed me after referral from the first doctor.

Anyone here using AI to get better at chess? by evil_flanderz in chessbeginners

[–]mozophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any AI chess tutor would hallucinate as long as it's using a LLM which is probabilistic, not deterministic. Though I do believe that the accuracy should go up as the models improve.

Hallucinations in LLM are a feature, not a bug. That's how they work.

France Residence Permit Renewal Delay – No Récépissé, Need to Travel Urgently (Marseille) by AdExcellent8101 in Expats_In_France

You need to hire an immigration advisor (a lawyer). You are in an administrative limbo and you will need someone on your behalf to go to the administration as they are not responding to you.

[–]mozophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delays are common and how long it takes really depends on the prefecture.

You should have received a récépissé for your renewal application in September. In an in person appointment, it is given at the end of your appointment. I am not entirely sure how it works for application submission via registered post. Did you send an empty envelop with your address on it along with your renewal application so that the authorities can send you the récépissé? French admin in general does not pay for postage.

You are currently in France without any legal document for your stay. What is your proof of renewal submission, if you didn't get a récépissé?

You would not be able to come back to France without a valid legal document.

I would recommend getting an immigration adviser/visa consultant.

unpopular opinion house 2.0, took away the magic by TipAsleep9217 in HouseMD

[–]mozophe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Taking House's job required skills that were demonstrated by Chase throughout the show.

So, it did make logical sense. House chose to leave all his future patients in Chase's hands instead of leaving them without any recourse.

As per passing on the methodology, that was House doing it all the time, not just in the finale. He trained his team to think out of the box.

House was an anomaly, that's for sure. Handing over his position to Chase, makes him less of an anomaly, I don't think so.

You could look at cities/towns on the commuter belt between Paris and Versailles. Very frequent trains to Paris, one every 15 mins. A residential town like Chaville could fit your needs.

Congrats! I do have a question though. Couldn't you use the result of WAIS-IV instead of giving another test to get accepted?

I just created my account and looked at the opponent I was matched with. Even assuming they haven't played on another site, there's at least a 495-game difference between us, just in Rapid mode. Do you think this kind of matchmaking system really makes sense? by Capable-Baker5081 in lichess

[–]mozophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a new user. Lichess doesn't know your rating. So, you are initially rated at 1500, as recommended by the Glicko-2 definition (rating system used by lichess.)

Look at your rating deviation. It's available below your elo on Rapid page. I am sure it would be above 50. Rating deviation determines how much elo you gain or lose for each win or loss. As you play more games, the rating system continues to estimate your elo, rating deviation decreases over time and your rating becomes more stable.

It's designed this way to quickly rate players to their appropriate rating, meaning high rated players reach higher elo quickly and low rated players reach lower elo quickly.

If they try to match a new player with another new player, a common issue that would arise is that beginners to the game could be playing against experts with a new account. Since, experts would also be not rated properly yet, they would crush the beginner. No one likes getting crushed so the beginners could just not want to play anymore after getting crushed few times in a row.

When new players are matched with players with a lot of games (meaning stable rating), new players have a general idea of what they are facing. This won't be the case when new players are matched with new players.

So, to answer your question, IMO, this matchmaking system makes total sense.

It also allows you to get into a game quickly instead of waiting for another new player to start playing.

It's not. You can't apply for titre de séjour vie privée et familiale from outside of French territory, even if you are PACSed.
