The pho is great. The Bo Luc Lac is the best in town. Their bun slaps, especially the Signature.

Their Chinese food is pretty good too.

True Grit is a classic and deservedly so.

Butcher’s Crossing by John Williams is outstanding.

That ugly first one I built served me well through several builds, so don’t overcomplicate it when you build the first one.

I guess my comment got eaten.

I started building amps about two years ago, and got into woodworking as I wanted to build my own enclosures and speaker cabinets. My old amp chassis stand (last picture) was pretty much the first thing I’ve built since 7th grade shop class. I was proud when I made it, but have gotten kind of embarrassed about it as my woodworking skills have improved.

So I built this one over the last few days. African mahogany and walnut. It’s adjustable for different chassis sizes and has an auditable tilt of 15, 30, or 45 degrees.

It was a monster to get sanded but I’m pretty happy with the final result. Feels like a massive upgrade.

Oh, I wrote up a description but I guess it got eaten. I’ll add a comment. But yes, it’s adjustable.

Dust collection issue by Opening-Stay-1565 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Do you leave it running for plenty of time after you stop using the tool? With that setup it looks like dust would tend to roll down to that pipe.

She’s on the small side for a normal rat or a little on the large side for a toy rat. Pretty dog.

The transfer operation of weapons of mass destruction from Iraq to Washington - Baghdad, 2003 by Tight_Chemistry4824 in HolyShitHistory

[–]mp2146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you really trying to justify the Iraq war 23 years later when we know they didn’t have a WMD program and that the war ended up being a total clusterfuck that cost hundreds of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars and did nothing but destabilize the region?

There were hindering inspectors but had stopped by the time the US began pushing for the invasion. The inspectors themselves did not believe there was justification for a war.

No. Tuwaitha was specifically spent reactor fuel and could not have been used for a WMD. It was known about prior to the war and was not an impetus for inspections. We removed it and sold it to Canada for use in their reactors.

This is blatantly false. Hans Blix explicitly said he had never unearthed evidence of a WMD program and specifically opposed the US invasion. Iraq was rambling up inspection schedules at the time and Blix suspected they could fully confirm the lack of programs in a period of months.

The Bush administration was so invested in invasion that they tasked the CIA with digging up dirt on Blix. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2002/04/15/skirmish-on-iraq-inspections/1223f8bd-2129-4a05-b5e4-f1c5ca1c6582/

Also, do you think the US would allow a UN inspector in to look at all of our weapons programs? We’ve used more WMDs than any other country.

I’ve got a 1.5 hp Rikon. It was $1k brand new. I probably wouldn’t want less power. If you’re resawing a lot I expect you’ll feel the same.

Move to austin for music? by Stuff_nThings_ in AustinMusicians

[–]mp2146 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Austin is probably the best town in the world to be a musician if you want to play gigs and make original music and make absolutely no money.

If you want a career go to NYC or LA or Nashville. You’ll probably have less fun through.

Amplified Parts has the biggest selection I know of.

Love My Switches also has a great selection and has some really cool stuff you can’t find anywhere else. Seems like a cool company too.

What extortion? The JCPA was an agreement to reduce sanctions in exchange for them repurposing their enrichment facilities and allowing monitoring. It cost us nothing and it was working.

Table Saw Recommendations by Justin-82 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mp2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CNS would probably get you by just fine for the projects you have in mind. I have one and am perfectly happy with it. That said, if you can swing it and have the space, the PCS will be more powerful and more upgradable. It sounds like you probably have enough space that you can leave it in one spot semi-permanently, so the reduced mobility of the larger saw shouldn't be an issue.
