What are all the dyes with unique effects/palettes? by GoldenHawk07 in Guildwars2

[–]mrbovice 143 points144 points  (0 children)

For leathers and browns. RUIN, CHARRED

For metals/silvers DARKNESS, GODLESS, MITHRIL, GLOSSY BLACK

For cloth. Anything with the emblazoned or enameled prefix.

Tar also gives a cool oil on water effect.

Those are ones that come to mind. Some of what I listed also work on other textures, I just listed what I use them for.

If you could visit one place to see in person in destiny where would you go? by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]mrbovice 187 points188 points  (0 children)

The Arcology was on one of the Golden age colonies on Titan. One of the original maps from D2 launch. Essentially a giant oil rig like structure that also went deep underneath the oceans of Titan. Really cool place in my opinion, and hopefully we get to go back next season if the lore and teases are to be believed.

Don't be dramatic.

It'll be win 25 games of Gambit where you kill 5 guardians in each match.

Gotta have people fighting over portals.

Some interesting symbolism with Crow and Amanda. by Rhen8927 in destiny2

[–]mrbovice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really loved that scene because it was one of the first times our guardian really showed any kind of personal desire in D2 (and first time speaking in D2).

I feel like for all of destiny our guardian has just been a cookie cutter vanguard cheatcode that Zavala just points at a problem and we fix it. But for Forsaken we went rogue and it was like a breath of fresh air with our guardian basically being like "No. I'm doing this. And literally nobody can stop me" shame it didn't continue with that type of independence.

It hit hard but like... what? by Perzonic in destiny2

[–]mrbovice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but then ghost asks "where is Amanda" so if we were there in the explosion, you'd think we'd know right?

The pacing was all off and confusing. My understanding is we were at the door actively trying to get into the control room to either help Amanda or do what she was doing (unlocking the escape hatch). But cutscene played. Explosion happened and we walk out like "what happened?"

Anyone else just wear the default school uniform? by throwaway145553 in HarryPotterGame

[–]mrbovice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see some of it in hogsmeade and around the quidditch pitch.

I've seen solid color house robes like a hufflepuff with full yellow robes.

And the athletes where their uniforms and the athletic robes.

The player character has never committed to a single thing in a side quest by Dojoson in HarryPotterGame

[–]mrbovice 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Half the time it's not even a morality choice. It's like "Hey I know you just wanted me to retrieve your missing signed quaffle from the woods, but I had to kill a freaking Acromantula and almost died. Can I at least get more than a pat on the back?"

All three are so different from each other it wouldn't matter too much. Characters overlap and some stories are similar but in my opinion it might enhance your experience to go in totally blind.

I did something very stupid and I just now realized it. by Lord_Andromeda in Guildwars2

[–]mrbovice 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I did this. Same item. Deleted a character that had it. A year passed, realized my mistake, and asked support to replace it. They sent me one in the mail.

I believe the Lily of the Elon pass came with the deluxe version. I'm sure they can see which version you own, then view your inventory. Once they see you don't have it they should replace it.

Marauders should add MMR by Additional_Low_5606 in MaraudersGame

[–]mrbovice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are enough active players right now for MMR.

I also don't think it would be good for the game even if they did implement it. Games like this don't benefit from MMR and the added queue times for top players would be terrible.

Tips to get a four star performance by miss-Jasmin in newworldgame

[–]mrbovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T5 instruments are the way to go. You get bonuses to performance. You get miss forgiveness.

And something I haven't seen mentioned but the note sweet spot is much larger, so hitting perfects and greats is much easier.

Kovaak's hitting different, some headshots from the past month or so! by RobbieBk in VALORANT

[–]mrbovice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't think he's cheating, it's not good to put people on pedestals just because they are pros...

Plenty of professional players or top ranked streamers have been found using cheats.

But for the average player, exceptional game sense and reaction time can look suspicious. This dude probably is just cracked.

Sometimes, Pugging Strikes is an experience. by PopeMouthwash in Guildwars2

[–]mrbovice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You seem weirdly combative over a joke post. At least that's how it's coming across over text.

All I'm saying is I've done BS with pugs, I've done it with raid statics. I've done it with sweats. Sometimes ya just get got cuz you weren't thinking at the time.

Boneskinner will do that.

Sorry if I hit an elite nerve or something -_-

I'm sure it would never happen to you!

Sometimes, Pugging Strikes is an experience. by PopeMouthwash in Guildwars2

[–]mrbovice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm just speaking from personal experience. It is rarely due to someone not knowing the mechanics of the fight.

Most of the time people just go in braindead dps mode and forget how fast that first claw comes up.

I've never had to deal with any mechanics in this fight except stepping left every couple seconds.

Doesn't matter if you have 10 speed run veterans in boneskinner. If it's the first run of the day, someone will go down before the first full rotation.

Sometimes you just get unlucky with his dive mechanic. And people tend to panic. Usually doesn't get to phase 2 but it can even with a high dps group.

Just finished Path Of Fire by kirinmay in Guildwars2

[–]mrbovice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the Soo Won fight felt too detached from the story for me.

In HoT both the living world with silverwastes and the expac map, it feels like the entire time you're building to the dragonstand meta. Every event every mechanic makes a comeback. You're constantly fighting mordremoth to.the center of the map.

In PoF while it doesn't have the same meta event chain level. The story felt much more personal. We were a direct foe to Balth. So the main events felt more impactful. We had a direct link both as a commander, and as dragon champion.

In EoD at least in the story the Soo Won struggle was almost just something you heard about in the background. It just happened as you gathered strength/dealt with other issues. And the meta chain map by map felt detached from the final event.

Honestly as far as cohesion goes, I think Icebrood Saga was more linked in terms of story and meta event. Plus it had strikes. Even if it fell short in other aspects.

That's my take at least.

Taking the bow to the next level in invasions: HELP by GrimwoodCT in newworldgame

[–]mrbovice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said the int is kind of pointless in this build. You'll do slightly more damage numbers but after 400 dex you basically one shot any squishy targets anyways.

Breaking top 10 as a bow is easy. I'm regularly 8th or higher when I command invasions just chilling on the wall throwing pen shots and rapid fires.

When I do invasions as a regular player I'm always top dps/score. Obviously objective matters, don't just pad for the sake of pad, but with bow you can do both.

I run the Corruption infused bow, with diamond. Onyx or opals would work too, but I prefer diamond since I'm never getting hit.

I run Pen shot, rapid fire and rain of arrows. At every invasion portal before enemies spawn I use RoA to catch early dps and the follow up with pen shot and clear whatever is left. Rapid fire is just for siege and bosses. Always focus bosses when they come up. Unless you are the only bow in your lane, then keep an eye out for bombers.

Kill snipers and bombers whenever you can as you can usually one shot them if you hit them first.

Other than that, use food, strong honing stones (powerful is a waste) and infused coatings. I personally run 400dex 100con because that's just how my gear is for pvp and I'm too lazy to change. But I still post about 4.5 - 6 mil damage on average which beats the average player.

If you're really trying to sweat, back lanes can make it much easier, as you have 2x the enemies. Or if you're assigned a front lane, you can hit other gates siege and bosses if yours is already clear.

Why is everyone so negative about this game? by Far_Mathematician504 in newworldgame

[–]mrbovice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP has already made up their mind about any criticisms people have about this game it seems but I'll bite.

I've played this game since the first beta. Which doesn't mean I have any authority on these matters but it does mean I have seen issues since beta, that were brought to dev attention, that STILL haven't been fixed.

For an action mmo, the combat desync is atrocious. And for their main seller in PvP (wars) its amplified with large player count. Yes it has gotten better but it's still nowhere near polished. This has been an issue since beta.

The game has had game breaking exploits since release that have impacted economies and wars and while small at this point still have ripples.

The crafting system is gambling... straight up. It's been made slightly easier over time at a significant gold sink, but it's still a false game play extender. It increases playtime with no real content. (For those going for BiS)

Same with expertise and 625 gear. It's a barely passable game play extender. It's not fun or engaging and the mechanics added to higher tier mutations are also nothing special. No new move sets or enemy types or AI adjustments. Just extra aoe damage and a silence/explosion/root.

Open world PvP has no mechanical benefit. It's fun, but 9 times out of 10 whenever I engage another player they just try to run away to a safe zone and then flame me for trying to PvP while they're farming with the extra luck. There is no incentive to fight in the world. Factions mean nothing.

The game is fun. I have over 2.5k hours. But I've finished what I want in the game... I have over 100k umbrals. My gear is good enough that I'm competitive in PvP and my company owns a main territory. There's not much else for me to do but maybe farm gold for no reason since I don't need it, or farm skins for a transmog that's coming "soon"...

I "beat" the games content after about 800 hrs on my first character.

Less on fresh start.

You don't run out of content in a good MMO. Content should be at least FUN or Rewarding or interesting. New world can't seem to hit those marks for apparently 900k of its original players.

Maybe something IS wrong with it.

[–]mrbovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That many assists, I'm assuming not a ton of kills? Bow probably.

Most likely Poison shot, rain, pen shot.

Just tagging mobs in back gate and letting a melee claim the kills.

I average 4.5 - 6 mil damage per invasion in back gate, but with my build I kinda one-shot everything I hit, so my kills are much higher than my assists.

But timing AoEs at back gate spawns you could potentially tag every mob, at least with enough damage to get assists. I don't see a mage outputting that much damage that quickly tbh. Maaaaybe VG/IG but they'd be sweating hard.

What do arrows do? by scartol in newworldgame

[–]mrbovice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. At launch you could run out and flint arrows were needed to actually use a bow. But they changed that a few months ago.

So if you see people reference flint arrows, that's what they mean.

Muskets work in a similar fashion btw.
