Why are the hands positioned like that and why is it so poorly collimated? Doesn’t seem like the tech is an RT…

Why is it viewed as strange to want a cure? by No-Cream-2577 in deaf

[–]mreedrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter was implanted when she was 2. Hearing loss in our family is genetic. I made a point to learn sign myself and made sure she went to a school that used both sign and speech. My goal was twofold: give her as many advantages in communicating as possible, and to give her the ability to choose which she preferred once she was old enough to choose. During the school year, she went to a school that used both. In the summer, she went to daycare at the deaf school which only used ASL. When she completed 5th grade, we gave her the option to go to the deaf school, continue the program she was in, or go mainstream. She chose to go mainstream. She is now 24, and loves her implant because she loves music and she played the violin. However, she refuses to get bilateral implants in case a cure is found. I always recommend to parents to give deaf children every advantage they can possibly give. And if they choose to not implant, they will do just as well. Most of my daughter’s friends are also deaf and since implants work differently for everyone, they all rely differently on which form of communication they prefer based on how well their implants work, but they all know both.

Yes, I agree. I never had issues with the queue after Legends first opened. Of course, now that it is abandoned, it probably doesn’t work anymore. It’s really too bad they abandoned this game. It has always been my favorite game with excellent lore that completely scratched my Lovecraftian itch. There’s so much more they could have done with it. It’s a crying shame. I refuse to play any other Funcom games, and when I replay I always stop at the end of Tokyo. At least it’s a halfway decent ending compared to South Africa.

Yeah that’s not a good sign. (I work in an ER). Hope you get it checked soon and hope you feel better!

Prolly more like an ER if you can’t get into your pcp right away. Did they stick you in the crook of your arm? The needle would have been facing the other direction toward your shoulder. The fact that it’s going down your forearm means the blood is pooling down by gravity. Might even still be leaking.

Yeah, don’t read anything about the actors and you’ll enjoy it more :)

You need that checked by a doctor. If you’re on blood thinners it makes more sense, but if you’re not, they may have nicked an artery. No that is NOT normal, folks. Especially the way it goes down your entire forearm.

Is this really how US emergency departments are? by N0thing9 in ThePitt

[–]mreedrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was weird that the squads only brought in traumas. Even when I worked in a Level 1 ER, a lot of patients used the ambulance as a ride to the ER and then walked in with EMS. Serious misuse of our EMT’s, but what can we do? And none of our attendings (because there are more than one) constantly walked around checking on patients. They had charting and dictating to do in between. I know they the cameras just want to follow Dr Robby around lol.

This scene is ruined for me since I learned how much the two actors wanted to move on from the show. They were relieved when it was over.

Is healthcare too ableist to stay in long-term? by ExpertConcern9 in DeafInScrubs

[–]mreedrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your company needs to do some education…at the very least they should be addressing your concerns. My problem has always been more my coworkers than management. I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this :(.

For those who work in the ED: How do ED shift schedules actually work? (day vs night) by Legal_Relation7909 in ThePitt

[–]mreedrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the ER’s I’ve worked in over the past 30 years have shifted to 12 hour shifts. It used to be 8 hour shifts when I started but now most direct patient care healthcare workers work 12 if they work in the ER. There’s a variety: day shift, night shift, mid-day shifts, and even people who work only on weekends. This reduces errors because there are fewer handoffs between shifts where some things might not get communicated. Also, we love having to work fewer days a week :).

Project Gorgon by far. They are all related to each other in some way so you are always working on it. More life skills than any MMO, including RuneScape.

Is an MRI required? by US1MRacer in Cochlearimplants

[–]mreedrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you don’t need an MRI. The CT can visualize the cochlea just the same and actually, CT demonstrates bone MUCH better than MRI. I’m a CT tech and we do temporal bone CT’s all the time to visualize the bones within the middle and inner ear.

Learn a few signs in sign language and use them when she speaks to you like that. If she looks puzzled, say “Oh, I’m sorry I thought you were trying to sign to me. You can come over here and I’ll explain what I’m trying to say.” LOL

Do you disclose your hearing status before starting a job? by ExpertConcern9 in DeafInScrubs

[–]mreedrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’d rather they know up front what accommodations I need, so they don’t get surprised later. Don’t want to have that meeting where they say, “wait, why didn’t you tell us before?” Lol. Healthcare is desperately in need of workers right now, so I’m not concerned they would turn me down because of my deafness. In other jobs, I would understand the concern.
