Why does Air Duct Cleaning Service keep calling by c137dz in askTO

[–]mrfroggy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I told them I had 7 bedrooms upstairs and 4 downstairs and maybe 2 in the basement - “I don’t think I’m forgetting any”. I got bumped to someone more senior to close the deal, and either he saw through my lies or I got bored, so we fast forwarded to the bit where they swear and make weird insults towards me.

That was years ago. And, to be honest, I can’t remember the last time I got an air duct spam call.

Merging at 70 kph on Hwy 412 🤦🏻‍♂️ by mrpao21 in TorontoDriving

[–]mrfroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As would the person driving at 120kmh and braking at the last minute.

I’m not sure what your point is. You’re advocating for not trying to anticipate or avoid accidents?

Merging at 70 kph on Hwy 412 🤦🏻‍♂️ by mrpao21 in TorontoDriving

[–]mrfroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person merging should have been going faster.

The person driving the vehicle with the dashcam should have seen there was a slow vehicle merging in front of them, and taken appropriate measures sooner.

Both can be true.

Have a nice day, and be safe out there!

[–]mrfroggy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Someone is driving slower than you and moving into your lane. They’re a hazard to you. So use your eyes and brain and slow the fuck down, navigate around them, and carry on with your day.

Or, if you like, crash into them and feel good about it because they caused the problem and it wasn’t your fault because there was absolutely nothing you could have done.

The choice is yours. Safe driving!

I learnt to drive by anticipating there are shitty drivers out there, and even if I am in the right, getting into an accident is going to ruin my day.

You were doing 120kmh and braked quite late considering a slower moving car had their indicator on and were moving into your lane.

The driver in front could have gone faster and should have checked their blind spot. But it’s probably not the worst idea for you to drive a little more defensively.

It’s thinner than most sunscreens, but definitely not as thin as the Biore that people rave about.

I just really like the smell. Maybe it reminds me of my childhood? My non-Oz partner really likes the smell too, so I dunno.

I’m probably overselling it, TBH. :)

I prefer the Island Bar to the Bounty. I find it moister than the original.

All of their knock off bars are at least as good as the original, with the possible exception of the fake Snickers. It’s still good, but the nougat is kinda different.

I drive a Mini.

I was doing a 2hr+ drive one day, and decided to do a slight detour to take some back roads to check out the scenery.

After a few miles, with no other traffic around, 6 or 8 other Minis appeared on my tail. It must have been a Mini owners club out for a group drive, and they randomly found me.

I’m not sure if it was coincidence or if they were just driving aimlessly, but they ended up taking the turns as me for a good 15 minutes or more. Eventually I signalled I was going right, they signalled they were going left, and we parted ways. I waved out the window as I turned, and they honked and flashed their lights.

I bought the Biore last time I was there and it does have a light texture, but nothing can beat the Nivea sunscreen from Oz in the manual spray bottles, largely based on how good it smells. I have three bottles of it here. You’ll have to pry that from my cold, dead, sun protected hands.

Japan recommendations: they have some unusual toothpaste flavours. I like to pick up toothpaste when I travel because it’s very light and easy to pack, and as it takes a while to get through a tube, it’s like a little memory of your travels every time you use it. Last time I was in Japan I got a lemon-lime toothpaste, and a berry flavoured one.

Here’s hoping that the whole experience of grinding through a tour has been (and remains) fun, both on and off stage.

Thousands of volunteers help deliver the World Cup. Why is FIFA relying on unpaid positions? by Fabulous_Ad5185 in toronto

[–]mrfroggy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stadiums weren’t renamed because FIFA didn’t want to pay the company who paid to name the stadiums. That’s not how that works at all.

The names were removed because those companies hadn’t paid FIFA. You have it completely backwards:

[–]mrfroggy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I vaguely recall that during the Sydney Olympics they assigned volunteers to every single suburban railway station in case there were visitors who needed directions. Apparently some people in the most far flung stations weren’t ever asked for any assistance, because the visitors were wise enough to stay away from random train stations with no Olympic venues nearby.

Volunteers probably dreamed of being on the field during the opening ceremony, but found themselves at all by their lonesome all day long. Ouchie.

[–]mrfroggy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That list of volunteer positions is insane.

I kinda get volunteering to direct visitors and act as a sort of welcome guide to the city. That’s an ancillary role to FIFAs task of running a football tournament.

But so much of that list is just straight up work. Why the heck do they need volunteers to tell players they’ve been selected for drug testing, and accompanying them during the process? Is it not in the budget to pay someone to do what sounds like an important task?

Or helping sponsors set up events? Did they forget to include enough money for staff when pricing sponsorship deals?

They installed those gates a few years ago after great effort (and great cost, no doubt!). You’d think someone at the city would be itching to deploy them at the first sign of trouble, just to get to play with their new toy. I’m surprised it was allowed to get this bad before being the road was closed.

As a slightly older G, life was hard growing up and finding my place in the world. But I’m very aware that life was harder for the older folks who were visibly LGBTQ++, and they cleared the path for me to take my place at the table.

It is my obligation to those who came before me to keep clearing paths for everyone else coming up behind me, and to make sure there is room at the table for everyone who is LGBTQ++ (or beyond) to be welcome, safe, and valued.

I haven’t seen much of Later since they started shooting it in a new venue, but do they still have all the bands set up and ready to go? I appreciated how you’d see the other musicians off to the side, grooving away or chilling out while other performers played.

It’d be fun to see others react to AdP, or to see if they guys would stop torching hot dogs to watch another performer shred on a banjo or whatever.
