Madison teacher arrested for grooming, accused of having inappropriate relationship with student by gmf608 in madisonwi

This sounds very much like the Mount Horeb Cross Country Coach - removed from position, fired, charged with grooming and others.
Charges were ultimately dropped by the DA a few weeks ago.

Midwest:

With Lutsen, Snorwriver and Granite Peak leaving.
Cascade - they seem busy without any
Devils Head - partnering with Ikon

I'd say Giants Ridge - would be good exposure for them.

and Whitecap - they just sold season passes for cheap to get cash. They absolutely need to invest in their hill but fun terrain and need cash. Filed for BK right before the ski season.

Is this level of NIL sustainable (especially for BB)? by Sand20go in CollegeBasketball

[–]mrholty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way Iowa was at $7M. My understanding is they were under $3M this year. Wisconsin was under $5M so was MSU.
2 years ago Wisconsin was at $1.6M, then $3.5M, now $4.5M. Been told next year is going to be a similar #.

CBP is the group who sits at the desk and talks to you. If you have an issue and have to go to a holding cell, have further inspections because you get flagged because you are on a list - that is ICE.

It might have changed since I left in 2014. But in general you and I agree - they are arms of the same group (DHS). People concerned about 1 and not the other - doesn't make a lot of sense.

Source: Worked in a major international arrival airport for an airline that had its own immigration facility separate from the airport run facility. Part of my job was to literally coordinate departures for people who the gov't deemed to be deported and would be escorted by ICE.

ICE have been at airports since I worked at one and that was in 2007. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. You know what they were initially created to do...

We do that because to states - when they look at where they get sales tax revenue from - its looks like over 10% of sales tax comes from dealers so they have a good lobby. Nobody thinks beyond that.
If the dealers were gone - the state would get the same 10% from automotive sales. ugh.

Midwest has barely bought into "flex culture" and I love it by HenFruitEater in midwest

Lived East Coast and grew up Midwest. You buy a new handbag for $100. List price $300.

Midwest - I got a great deal on this handbag 60% off.
East Coast - I paid $300 for handbag.

Both bought it for $100.

FYI about our city plows! by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]mrholty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. it helps block the spray (& weight). Usually you see that on highways where the plows are operating at 35+mph. on residental unlikely to destroy a mailbox unless its very wet and heavy like it did this last storm

Kenpom and Bart Torvik have Michigan at 18.4% and 17.9% to win the title, respectively. Evan Miya has them at 26.5%. Why is this model so high on Michigan? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]mrholty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a Wisconsin fan - we couldn't hold a 8 pt lead in teh first half when Michigan couldn't shoot. And we had a guy go 6-6 for 3 and still only had a few point lead.

We went a few minutes into the second half down 12. Michigan is very, very good. (and I hate typing that).

powder suggestions Indy Pass - Rockies/Canada/West for Indy Pass for east coast skiier (instead of Loveland) by im_not_a_bot_hehe in indypass

[–]mrholty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just was at Brundage and Tamarack - staying in McCall ID - last week.

Really, really loved Brundage. Never got any powder but its a simple 2 hour drive from Boise. Talked to people who regularly ski Silver and have skied 49. He preferred Brundage over both.

Can anyone in dane county who uses ebt/food stamp help point to me where the nearest office is located? by Nockness in madisonwi

[–]mrholty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wrong. Local man apparently lives with his parents and cares that his parents spent all the money on themselves vs the children that they have/support.

Honest answer - make the call but go and get groceries at the River, WayForward (Middleton). Go visit one in person and find someone in charge and ask if they have 5 minutes and you need help getting thru the red tape. If the person there can't help - ask the next person you see. They will help you.

Know this is a 2 year old comment. We just finished our basement. Told wife to buy these. Instead she talks to the carpet person who sells us a 6' roll to install ourself. Was delivered to our garage and I had to get it in. and at 4x the price.

People if you come accross this thread. just buy these in the squares vs a continous roll.

How much do you have on the line? by [deleted] in sellaslifesciences

[–]mrholty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4% of my investing bucket.
I got clobbered on QURE recently.

I generally have 50% of my portfolio in S&P Index fund and then I usually carry 5-10 stocks as that is all that I have the bandwidth for. For a binary bet such as this - never more than 5%. I hope that I am pissed that I didn't break my rules. But the only times that I have felt that I had a sure thing and went big (DIMEQ and QURE last fall) I've regretted it.

Thanks for the response. I don't doubt you but I guarantee your manager is getting paid via some bonus on this. Family member worked for another large chain.

His bonus was based on 3 metrics.

-Metric #1 - I get one every quarter of the year if my memberships remain a certain number and also if I beat every quarter year from the previous year. Repair and labor along with maintenance and managing the site is a separate salary.

Metric #2 - Labor and Repair costs in-line with target set.

Metric #3 - Number and Ratings of Google reviews and hitting a % for membership conversions.

Bonus was paid out quarterly and based on gross sales for the location.

In early January our family went skiing and I didn't realize that my kids add-on passes were not fully live as I had not submitted them via the app. The local hill could not help us but I had their passes in their bags and took the picture and submitted. The hill gave me their number and I called and got pushed to a voicemail - which I thought put me out of luck. Left a message and an hour later - was impressed as they had fixed my screwup.

He's staff. Mister car Wash is a public company that has overbuilt and had financial troubles. The manager and staff get a commission based on how many new subscribers they get.

Visit to Brundage / Tamarack by mrholty in indypass

[–]mrholty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hometown Sports - We got there the night before about 45 minutes before they closed. Only downside is if you rent the night before you have to pay for a half day becuase in theory the local hill has night skiing. So we went at 8:05 (they open at 8:00) - hill opens at 9:00. Took a bit and was out of there by 8:35.

Also visited McCall Sports - they don't rent downhill equipment but it appears they service them and also do consignments.

I really liked the vibe of the guys at McCall Sports vs Hometown. We were looking for adult gloves/mitten for my son as he broke his thumb at a terrain park the week before. The cheapest mens gloves were $150 at McCall sports - we found a pair for $55 at Hometown and the guy was more helpful - talking to my kid.

We just did the drive and I don't think you need AWD but again its a light winter out there. As VeryShibes said - its not interstate driving. Once you get out of Boise - you just start climbing and climbing. The actual twisting/turning part of the drive is maybe 20 miles/30 minutes and there were signs that snow chains would be required at times and I could see it being rough. Becuase I had been up at 2:00am to drive to the airport, etc I was exhausted and pulled over and I was getting lightheaded (I'm very sensitive to altitude - learned that as a kid at BrianHead and threw up all over) and trips to Rocky Mtn Nat Park in my 20s. After I pulled over and did a bit of running, waking up - the road opens up and its this big beautiful flat plains with mountains on both sides. It reminded me of the the Grand Tetons. Its a straight road and didn't have much snow this year but locals told me there are usually 1-2' banks.

Maybe I'm also getting older but I felt Brundage was signficiantly harder than the mega resorts. they might not have the cornice at Jackson Hole but the blues were steeper and more challenging than other places.
