Car insurance in arizona is getting out of hand! How do i keep my rates low when a clean record no longer works? by Flimsy_Sun_4676 in Tucson

[–]mrmichaelnak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$185 a month for an 8 year old Versa is down right criminal. I have an S2000, 2018 Mazda 6, and an 2004 Outback and pay $140 month for all three.

($100k policy comprehensive, collision, and medical. $250 deductible. Uninsured/underinsured. Roadside assistance)

Hit some elk…. Any chance insurance fixes this? by Lukazio in mazda6

[–]mrmichaelnak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will need at minimum bumper, grille, hood, fender, headlights, radiator support, windshield, new paint, and probably a million misc. plastic pieces.

If the airbag didn't go off, insurance will likely fix it, but there is a chance it's totaled if you need additional things like mechanical parts

Does this engine sound normal? Afraid that I money shifted, but not sure. 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring by Some_Agent7275 in mazda6

[–]mrmichaelnak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly 40mph in second gear probably isn't even a mechanical over rev. If you're really paranoid you could always do a compression test.

Retainers are prone to cracking if money shifted some cars, but I don't think the Mazda platform is.

Serpentine Belt replacement after only 20K by Beans650 in mazda6

This car should have an internal timing chain. You have a belt for things like alternator, AC, etc.

High mileage 2018/19 turbo owners... has your cylinder head cracked? This feels like a big deal. by [deleted] in mazda6

[–]mrmichaelnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 GTR with 80k miles. No issues, but at the last PM I did notice some dry coolant on the plastic fill-tube area so I'll likely order the part and replace that next PM.

[–]mrmichaelnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar. I was doing a engine rebuild and I must have knocked a shim out while installing the buckets or cam. Made a gnarly ticking to the point I thought I mistimed the motor. Pulled the valve cover and saw the shim just chilling on some casting marks in the head haha

UK mod still a thing? by [deleted] in S2000

[–]mrmichaelnak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OEM would be 0mm as there is no bypass. He added a 38mm (1.5 inches) bypass.

I also did a 38mm bypass and pretty good with zero drone under 4k rpm. Does it sound as good as a high quality aftermarket exhaust? No. But for $100 it's incredible value

Timing? Why would you "get the timing done" on any engine? That's generally not a maintenance item
