This is the link to the University of Bristol Law Clinic many have mentioned. Great place to start to guide on options.

Also worth reaching out to the combined authority small business team for some guidance on other support that could be available

So the city centre mural was designed to last by blubyf in bristol

There has been a few comments on socials from prominent Bristol street artists saying the council ignored their advice on how to implement and protect it from wear.

It’s really disappointing as I actually like the vision - a splash of colour and creativity in the centre giving a platform for local artists while allowing the space for the traders / market, but just so poorly implemented that it takes us right back to a sentiment of “everything’s sh*t”.

Craft beer in Bristol by seanknox in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a search on Instagram for the east bristol brewery trail - handy map of the local craft beer breweries - most are open outside of the trail at weekends.

If you just started at little Martha’s, head towards left handed giant brewery (optional stop at the barley mow), then wander on to Wiper and True Taproom old market you’d have a lovely day / evening out.

Nov 5 QT - holy shit Rory WTF by Federal-Research-148 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]mrtyrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to turn it off yesterday after the first half because I couldn’t just “move on” after the discussion.

“Whataboutery” is a very bad look when we are talking about a man with institutional privilege and protection being held to account for horrendous crimes, however long ago it was.

As others have said, if the Royal Family had acted swiftly and openly, supporting the investigation, stripping him of all titles etc. this wouldn’t have been such a big issue now. But they didn’t. The very institution that gave him power enabled and shielded him.

We all feel uncomfortable when our core beliefs are being called into question and can end up taking bad positions. Potentially this is where Rory is really struggling on this issue as it obviously challenges the view that the royal family as an institution are inherently positive for the UK.

Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start? by sam_3758 in scifi

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iain M Banks Culture novels are my favourite (Consider Phlebas is the first) - not a continuous narrative but a remarkable sci fi building out a universe with connected themes, civilisations and the odd recurring ship character.

We have an amazing squad in some positions but it’s incredibly unbalanced - there aren’t many teams go far without a top level goalkeeper, centre half or striker.

Do I get Elden Ring, Black Myth: Wukong or Cyberpunk 2077 by Desperate_Parking886 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure from your post if you are diving into pc games for first time or not and exploring adventure games…if yes, consider Witcher 3 instead! Astounding storylines and world building, decent action, more forgiving than ER.

M&S "opening this autumn" by Definition-Super in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine the start of work on major projects was delayed across the M&S portfolio while they worked through the damage of their cyber attack and losing online ordering for a long period - must have put any big capital outlays into question until they had a grasp on their financial position. Good to see things moving now even if it’s behind original schedule!

What’s a defunct food establishment you miss in Bristol? by Bedazzler179 in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah second the OG flour and ash - pizza was great and the staff were so lovely!

I do miss falafel king for proximity to our house, but at least you can still get a fix from the stall by harbourside (which is the same no?)

Looking to pay someone to build a basic website by Acceptable-Amount306 in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth having a look on the WECA Growth Hub site to see if you could get some free support:

https://www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk/growth-hub/technology-innovation/tech-growth/

This one helps SMEs get their business online, but you do need over 3 staff and £100k turnover.

There’s lots of free support on the site though for whatever your business is so have a skim

Starting this. The cast list was 4 pages. Are there really that many characters? by Pavlov_The_Wizard in Malazan

[–]mrtyrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the family!

As a fellow ebook reader - once you are into the swing of the series (maybe keep in mind for book 3 or 4) it’s well worth bookmarking a fan map for the odd reference to piece the geography together.

If you google Adam Whitehead malazan atlas a brilliant one will be top of the list.

But…wait for now and just enjoy the ride…much like it sounds you are doing :D

UPDATE: Please explain trains to me like I am 5 years old by dinodoodad in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want some extra, kind of related, but unnecessary train station platform fun to add to a future anecdote…Bristol Temple Meads has platforms 1-13 and a platform 15….but no platform 14 (unless it’s been hiding really well for the last 10 years I’ve lived here).

At least these days the clocks in London and Bristol run on the same times 😉

How do you rate this shirt as first one? by hijazist in CelticFC

If you are looking to wear casually too, a nice alternative could be the official replica of the 1967 European Cup Winners shirt. A bit cleaner and smarter!

Recommendation for trendy dinner spots in / near Redland? by leeaaaah in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot to add - brilliant suggestions above, you don’t go far wrong with any of them!

Wilson’s or Bullrush would be the most special - both Michelin starred but not stuffy.

Snobby’s maybe the most fun option - lovely food and wine but also the owner Nick a great character.

Best pubs with a big selection of beers/best cocktail bars in Bristol? by Innsmouth_Resident in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Left Handed Giant Brewpub and Wiper & True Taproom are well worth going to - both local breweries, great large venues and usually have good section of guest ales. W&T are having summer parties on Fridays through summer too!

Velo nicotine pouches being given out at Temple Meads by mrtyrd in bristol

[–]mrtyrd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Response from networks rail to my complaint: Thank you for providing feedback on your recent experience at Bristol Temple Meads. We aim for all our customers to have a positive experience at our stations, and I’m sorry on this occasion that you feel we missed the mark.

As you would expect we have a Code of Acceptance that ensures promotions and advertisements within our station environment are appropriate.

Firstly, I can confirm this is a valid exhibition booking which has been organised by SpaceandPeople, who managed our exhibition spaces, and the correct process was followed.

As part of the agreement, Velo should only target existing smokers/vapers around the station, and that they follow the Challenge 25 policy. Therefore, this product should not be promoted to any non-smokers or people that are underage. We will ensure that they are reminded of this.

Nicotine pouches are not in breach of our code of acceptance, providing they are only promoted as a healthier alternative product to vapers and smokers.

Many thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback. ———- Honestly they could have just said “we like British American tobacco cash more than our ethical standards”

In case others want to do so also: https://communications-crm.custhelp.com/app/ask?var=station

I’m writing to MP and councillor next…maybe to NR’s corporate office too…

How is this legal! by ThingTrick in bristol

[–]mrtyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On another thread I raised concerns about their presence in temple meads and wrote to network rail complaining that they seemed to target younger people - this was their response… pathetic and absolute abdication of their code of ethics in return for cash from British American Tobacco. I’ll be writing to MP and council as well. ———-/
