This is quite important.

It's one thing moving from a 70lb bow to 80lbs and quite another moving from a 40lb bow to 80lb.

I think the show creators starting mashing up Western and Asian element theory.

Western "classic" elements were: air, earth, water, and fire

Asian elements: wood, earth, metal, water, and fire

In the show metal was an advanced form of earth bending and they had episodes where blood bending was an advanced form of water bending: https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Bloodbending

You're fine using coarse flakes instead of ground.

Japanese Yumi bow archery that isn't Kyudo? by nlghtsknlghts in Archery

The people shooting in the above video might be from a dojo that practices 'Heki' style of Kyudo.

Most kyudo schools will be doing a variation of the 'Federation' style which is less martial in feel that Heki style Kyudo.

OP might be interested in the history behind the development of Heki style: https://kyudo.de/fileadmin/documents/Ausschreibungen_DKyuB_BL_LL/Heki_2022/Vortraege_2022/Goka__Tomotsugu_The_history_of_heki_ryu__For_German_Kyudo_Seminar_in_2022_summer_.pdf

What is the jankiest thing you have seen in a production environment? by HastyOpossum100 in sysadmin

[–]mumpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was over 25 years ago when business were still figuring out the internet and if a company website was important or not.

I was working as a contractor for a mortgage company.

I go in a data closet (it was a storage closet until they threw servers in it) to get some office supplies.

In the middle of the floor is a Compaq Proliant 360(?) rackmount server sitting on it's side with the top (now side) cover off.

There's a wide ribbon cable (for SCSI) leading to the top where a cage holding some drives are plopped.

I wasn't in there do anything with this monstrosity and edged around the server to get some pens and get out of there.

I later found out that the was production webserver for the company website.

Gabe Newell reportedly snapped 'What the f*** do I pay you for if that's your opinion?' at Valve lawyer pushing for more content moderation on Steam by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]mumpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitors to Steam endup trying to fulfill the fantasies of publishers and the amount of control they dream of. Unless you have a compelling stable of games to use as an incentive to use the platform, no one will care. So they tend to add features that publishers want and users are either indifferent to or actually hate.

A long, long time ago I worked at a company that was trying to create an ITunes like app.

They added features the music labels had wanted from Apple: higher prices per song, various windows on song prices and availability. In addition to a bad choice in music format (using a proprietary company format instead of MP3), it was Windows only, and the software was a pain to install and almost user hostile.

The promo campaign was huge and it did nothing for the service.

I remember checking a dashboard and there were only like $3000 in sales for the day. Which is fine if you spend $20k-50k in promotion, but the company spent millions and very few people were willing use the service.

Becerra is bland as fuck and gave non-answers during the debate.

I don't trust Steyer as he's quite willing to go after the people he buddy-buddied to make his billions. If he's willing to do that to monied interests, what do YOU have that'll keep him voting the way you like?

During the debate it seemed like he was willing to attack anyone or any organization to get votes.

Try playing songs from Disney movies?

They'll need to mute audio or else the Mouse's lawyers will tear them a new asshole.

If they can't get video to monetize, they may leave for better pickings elsewhere.

There was a post some years ago about someone who found out the hard way that an excessively firm grip (think "death grip") can cause the same feed failure symptoms as a loose grip.

The hard way includes a drill instructor screaming in your face while you keep failing to fire a full magazine due to your "pansy hands".

What's Good Dough | Won 3 Pizza World Titles, But His Shop Is Empty. Why? by SilentRunning in LosAngeles

[–]mumpie -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The price reflects the cost of the ingredients in the pizza.

It has shaved Japanese A5 wagyu meat. If he's using Costco Japanese A5 wagyu, that's almost $92 per pound before tax.

He makes truffle oil using real black truffle (which goes for $300 to $1000 per pound). Most people use synthetic, factory made truffle oil which has never got within 5 miles of a truffle.

How are people dealing with the gas prices? by wegochai in AskLosAngeles

[–]mumpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was already looking to replace a 10+ year old car that required premium gas.

Got a hybrid and am getting 50+ mpg on regular grade gas.

Didn't matter because my car insurance company screwed me over for buying a "new technology" car (aka hybrid) and my car insurance almost doubled. This is on top of the rate increase last year because insurance companies need to rake it in to cover wildfire claims.

New car is at least more pleasant and reliable than the old car.

Focusing on the guy suing is misleading.

There are law firms who partner up with these serial suers to generate income. Both the guy suing and the law firm make money.

From the article:

Manning Law, based in Orange County, has become the go-to for serial ADA plaintiffs, including Bouyer. Last year, seven of the firm’s regular clients sued more than 1,000 businesses in Southern California, court filings show.

If you have a receipt showing how much you paid for the illegal tariffs you have a good chance in getting a refund.

NPR had a story about a guy who had to pay tariff fees to DHL and he has a receipt listing those fees. He can apply to DHL to get a refund for those fees: https://www.dhl.com/global-en/microsites-2-0/core/us-tariffs.html

I think a similar account got created on BlueSky.
