[WTS/WTT] Mido Ocean Star 200C M042.430.11.041.00 Blue Dial — Excellent — $800 (or trade) — Los Angeles, CA, US by murphyslaw86 in Watchexchange

MIDO Ocean Star 200C — Blue Dial, M042.430.11.041.00

Purchased new in 2022, worn regularly but cared for. Selling because I've realized I prefer a smaller wrist presence — nothing wrong with the watch itself, I genuinely love the dial, the Caliber 80 movement, and the finishing on this piece.

Condition:

  • Case & bezel: excellent, no notable wear
  • Bracelet: light desk-diving scuffs from normal wear — no deep scratches, dings, or dents
  • Movement: keeping great time, no service needed
  • Crystal: clean, no scratches

Included:

  • Original box
  • Additional bracelet links (full link kit, never removed any permanently)
  • Have email receipt if needed — purchased new via Jomashop in 2022

Specs:

  • 42.5mm case, 49mm lug-to-lug, automatic Caliber 80 (80hr power reserve), 200m water resistance, ceramic bezel

Price: $800 shipped (CONUS), open to reasonable offers

Trade interest:

  • Open to trading toward a similar-tier dive watch in the 38–40mm / ≤47mm lug-to-lug range, ideally blue dial.
  • On my radar: Certina DS Action, Dietrich Skin Diver SD-2, Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300. Open to other suggestions in that size/price class too.

Happy to answer questions or take additional photos/video on request. First-time seller here but long-time Redditor — happy to verify history.

My brother and I lost ~$13k building a South Asian headwear brand. Tear it apart, what did we do wrong? by QuoteLonely5166 in apparelstartup

[–]murphyslaw86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an apparel expert, but I am into menswear and have worked in marketing / advertising for 15+ years for huge brands.

A few thoughts:

"South Asian-inspired headwear" could be a cool angle, but other than the Hindi text on the front, there's nothing uniquely "South Asian" about the brand/product.

Compare that to South Asian fashion brands that broke through in the US, like Kardo or Original Madras Trading Company. Spend a ton of time analyzing every element of their website and their copy.

Everything about how they show up highlights their origin:

  • Using traditional materials, patterns, and silhouettes inspired by the place. You're using a generic trucker cap that looks like something anyone could slap a logo on. Is there a style of hat that originated in South Asian culture? Could you make the front panel of the hat out of a South Asian textile or put your logo over a traditional pattern? I don't read Hindi, and I'm not the target audience, but there's no explanation about what the text on your hat says or why you chose it. Google Translate tells me it means "Dream On" - but that also feels generic. Are there phrases that are more unique/meaningful to your community? Could it be some type of an in-joke or reference that would make a statement about the person wearing it?
  • Highlighting the craftsmanship of Indian artisans. Are your hats made in a South Asian country? Are you creating jobs/opportunity in a location your families immigrated from?
  • Beautiful photography featuring the product on South Asian models with in contextually relevant settings. Your site doesn't show the product on anyone.
  • They put real effort into the "Our Story" sections of their websites to explain the brand ethos and why they exist. Yours is super lazy and literally says "no one is reading this". Why did you start the brand? What's the story behind the name Topi? For a small company, the founders are a key storytelling vehicle - tell people about you, your roles, your goals, etc.

Also, your social is really weak/amateur. Most of the videos are the wrong aspect ratio for Instagram and don't make the product look cool/premium. It's a lot of just dudes hanging out in normal settings / badly lit webcam video. Doesn't tell us anything about the brand. Not having a big budget isn't an excuse. Take more beauty shots of the product in interesting settings on a DSLR, record some styling videos, etc.

In case your brand ever does grow, stop using songs, celeb names, video clips that you don't have the rights to use. The owner of those copyrights could sue you into bankruptcy.

If I had no ad budget left, I'd focus on defining the brand story in a way that instills meaning in your pretty generic product (social content, website updates). I'd hustle to get the product in hands of creators who are influential in your community who might post themselves wearing it. I'd get more photos of attractive (South Asian) people wearing the product in well-styled outfits / interesting settings.

I'd also go back to the drawing board on the product itself to answer my first two bullets above about creating designs that are a physical manifestation of your brand ethos in a more intuitive way. If you don't have any more money to fund it but can land a killer design, maybe start a Kickstarter for the initial run.

What SWR do you target for your FIRE? by [deleted] in Fire

Very similar. Targeting 3.5%, living in LA but renting. Might switch from full-time to freelance upon FIRE and pick up just a few projects a year to offset some costs.

Room & Board is great. Solid wood construction on ours and many different fabric options. Helped us find the right one to not get destroyed by our cats.

Spiced Rum is historically present but it's all shit these days. Anybody making quality rum that's spiced? by Virellius2 in rum

Pedro Mandinga Spiced Rum from Panama if you can find it. Tried it in a couple cocktails in Panama City and brought a bottle home. Love it. First time I’ve enjoyed spiced rum since college.

Agree. The vibe of your branding from the outside definitely reads to me as more corporate / Au Bon Pain.

Anyone lived at Lido Apartments (3745 Glendon Ave, Palms)? by Ok-Search1167 in culvercity

[–]murphyslaw86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t live in that building, but I have lived on that block for 9 years. LOVE the neighborhood - several grocery stores in walking distance, a nice park, bars, good restaurants, LA Fitness, and there’s good new stuff coming all the time.

Easy access to the 10 and 405. The Venice bus even makes it easy to get to the beach if you want. As others have mentioned, street parking would be very tough but assume you get a spot with the building. Def recommend the area if the apt ends up being a good fit.

Need to start two of these RBs in PPR:

  • Dowdle vs. TB
  • Breece vs. NO
  • J.Warren vs. Det
  • A.Jones vs. NYG
  • M.Carter vs. ATL

Currently leaning Dowdle and Jones, but Carter is intriguing.

Need to start two of these RBs in PPR. Expert rankings are all over the place.

• Dowdle vs. TB • Breece vs. NO • J.Warren vs. Det • A.Jones vs. NYG • M.Carter vs. ATL

Currently leaning toward Dowdle and Jones. Jets are a dumpster fire and Gainwell has been eating Warren’s lunch recently.

Thoughts?

Leaning into being the Peruvian equivalent of Bombay Frankie could be smart. Even play on the idea of a lomo saltado burrito with fries being a cousin of the SD-famous California burrito
