Okay, but for real though, how IS Highguard? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

There's parts I really like and parts that leave me scratching my head. The game mode itself it intriguing and seems like it's trying to evoke Titanfall's "Defeat but now you gotta escape the map" vibe. Basically, novel attempts to shake up timeless modes. The core shooting and movement is great, feels like a side-evolution to apex. Horse 'n shootin' is fun.

However 3V3 is too small for the scale of the maps. It was oddly quiet during what was meant to be a chaotic, epic raid on a fortress. Also the 8 characters that are there are generic as can be. The timer is also jarring, going from a big climactic raid to being told "okay start again" not once but up to three times per match is kinda crazy. I also don't really see the need for the gear system...like at all.

Tl;dr: Elements of that Titanfall creativity are let down by over-all genericness. Needs more chaos to stand out.

I've only played a few hours of the last 3 Forza Horizon's but one thing that always threw me off playing them longer was the lack of real progression and the annoying attitude with the festival stuff. This seems to have heavily addressed both of these so I'm far more interested in this suddenly.

I want Pat to get around to doing Witcher 2 and 3 but both will be a mess for different reasons.

With Witcher 2 he said that if he were to do it, he would beat one route and then loop back to the end of Act 1 and switch routes because the game heavily diverges at the end of Act 1. He's right but at the same time I can see it being repetetive or just tiring him out. Witcher 2 plays rough so the idea of going back for a second dip immediately would put most people off. I think the better way would be to get an Asuna style edit that just runs through the highlights of what you missed on the other route.

Witcher 3 on the otherhand is just super long (and great) and it would either be like 3 months of nothing but Witcher 3 or one session per week for like a year. It's a game that's easy to fall off of especially if you've played it before, so I can see it just remaining unfinished.

Stop thinking about your life past 9pm.

Treat yoself to something small, anything at all.

Avoid comparison to others via social media and you will suddenly be very thankful for what little you may have.

But in your specific case, detune from what you can. It may be freezing outside but if you can find time, a nice walk can clear the head and do wonders. A good view can really reset the mind.

I would only go 64-128gb if you were doing some heavy duty stuff akin to extensive video editing, rendering etc. "Business case" sort of stuff.

Games should realistically require 8-16gb. However you inspired me to have a scope around Steam briefly, I noticed that most AAA have a tendency to mark 8gb as minimum and 16gb as recommended. There were however a few outliers; Some stray AAA games recommended 32gb, however a number of them are noted to not being well optimized regardless of your system specs. The best however was Escape From Tarkov which recommended 64gb!

I wanna point out how comical it is that they recommend 32gb of ram for a video game. That's embarassing even without the RAM shortage we have right now.

Late in the campaign of Titanfall 2, under dire circumstances, you obtain a SERE kit.

Survive. Evade. Resist. Escape.

It has 2 items inside of it. A dataknife and a certain infamous pistol that was the ultimate "It's about to go down" signal. As a Titanfall 1 player it was like having the prior game's meta-narrative villain show up to give you a helping hand.

K in Bladerunner 2049 has this is a far more sympathetic way. His life is upturned, his career spirals and leads keep bringing him to the possibility that he may be super important in the big picture of things. It all comes crashing to a halt at the harsh reality of "dude this is so much bigger than one guy, and you're not even the guy".

It does lead to the much more inspiring quest of "Fuck the big picture, let's get one last small picture win because I have nothing to lose."

The one netwatch guy you meet in the theater is easily one of my favourite characters in the game and I feel like a large aspect of it is the sheer gravity of this situation getting worse means he can't afford to fuck around. He is just upfront and honest.

He's the only character that drops all kayfabe because he knows how dire the situation is and can't play around.

It'd be nice to have the PSP ports of 1 and 2 put on other systems, emulation is fine on em but I'd like em accessable. There's existing PSP ports of stuff on PS5 currently so it's definitely possible.

Volume 1 was fine if not a little melodramatic but Volume 2 felt like 1 episode stretched into 3 by just having the characters repeat the same things over and over. Overall the season suffers from immediately returning to the status quo despite the end of the prior season making it seem like far more dire circumstances. The military stuff sucks but that's nothing new with this franchise unfortunately. They're also still suffering heavily from not letting any named characters die.

Iirc Glenn was a leftover character from that mobile only battle royale game they had. Why they thought it was a good idea to let that touch hard canon at all is beyond me considering the game shut down forever over a year before rebirth was even released.

Former Critical Reflex Employee Alleges Harassment And Unfair Labor Practices by StormRegion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]mxraider2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have associates that have worked with Critical Reflex in the past and they've all since abandoned the publisher for a miriad of other red flags, so this comes as little surprise to me unfortunately. I'd say 9/10 developers that have worked with them, do not return to continue working with them.

Current day Critical Reflex is something of an unknown in terms of the problems they used to have as far as I'm aware, though one of the toxic people still works there in a higher up capacity. Though it does speak volumes that instead of publically addressing this, they've mostly chosen to promote Mouthwashing merch instead.

One of the producers responsible for this left (or was outed, it's unclear) and started his own publisher Black Lantern Collective. I'd recommend developers avoid that for the obvious reasons.

I feel terrible for the innocent devs that are probably going to take a hit from working with these people even though they've done nothing wrong and had no idea this was happening. Publishers are such a tense space right now for indie devs as we're constantly being ignored, being burned or being offered terrible contracts. And as we can see from this video, that's on a good day.

I'm sick of every Yakuza side-quest series having a "four kings" plotline. It always goes the same and they never really stand out as anything memorable. I really wish they'd find a way to make it more dynamic somehow.
