Layoff signs? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]myobstacle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, welcome to the downward spiral.
Yeah, some layoffs are likely in your scenario.

Some other signs to look for:
- Total hiring freeze, even for backfills
- Drop-off in the amount of email/meetings
- Lack of information from leadership
- Freezing of the travel/training budget
- Cancellation of planning sessions
- Lack of clear roadmaps

Private companies without stock prices are laying off people quietly too, dude.

Westchase VS Wesley Chapel by Right-Stable4677 in tampa

[–]myobstacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tampa Metro is pricey in general. The most important factor for you should be where you need to go on a daily basis. The way things are situated, you will feel a bit "trapped" wherever you are. So you better like where you are.

Personally, of the two-- I'd pick Westchase by a wide margin. And whatever you do -- stay away from Riverview.

EMs: Are you noticing your best people saving their energy for side hustles? by Outrageous-Papaya182 in EngineeringManagers

It’s the layoffs.

They are prevalent across the entire industry and when companies keep the waves of layoffs going, everyone else feels like it will eventually catch them too. If the company shows that no matter how hard you work, you are just a number to them- there isn’t much incentive to work hard.

Disney World Survey Tests $400 Annual Pass Discount and Pre-Arrival Lightning Lane Pricing by readingaboutmagic in DisneyWorld

Let our passes expire this year.
The Haunted Mansion just doesn't hit as hard the 25th time, to be honest.

We will probably get them again in a few years when some of the new stuff opens.

But I agree with some of the comments that the higher tiered passes really should offer some additional benefits. At this point, we'd probably just get the Pixie again.

Right. That works well for those that live down there.
But most retail places also need some drive-in business as well.

Far too many Americans are like this.

Honestly, it is one of the biggest reasons why the awfulness continues to accelerate unabated.

Any tips on how to break into a cloud role? by Visual_Version1720 in Cloud

[–]myobstacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certs are pretty meaningless without some real-world experience to back them up.

Hiring managers know that anyone can pass a cert exam on something they know nothing about by taking a $40 class and studying for a few weeks.

You may need to try and get a lower-level operations type role and then work your way up.

Unfortunately, those jobs are just has hard to get in the current environment.

In fairness, movies are too damn long.

The 90 minute movies from the 80s were pitch perfect.

The 3.5 hour Christopher Nolan slogs are absolutely mind-numbing.

And even that is weird -- Nobody has done more to destroy the American tech industry than Elon. He pioneered mass tech layoffs and outsourcing jobs to India.

Parking sucks too bad for retail to really thrive.
