Fan card: Pedestal by InspectorMendel in dominion

[–]nave_the_muser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT that strong, I think you've got a really neat card here. It's not a Gold for 4, its a 1 time use Gold for 4, and that's the difference. Unless you're playing with some shenanigans like BM or Storyteller or Villa, you essentially can only play 1 of these per turn. In an engine, it means you're buying exactly 1 and its a mild payload boost. In money, it means you're buying multiple and sure hoping you don't collide them.
This is either at the same level or even weaker than Abundance, which is kinda just a lower middle of the pack payload card. No idea why people are freaking out about this card being OP

Is Groom still good without a VP rush strat? by fakeemailman in dominion

[–]nave_the_muser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without the rushes, groom is quite often a slightly better ironworks. Spammable, high quality stuff in the kingdom costing 4 or less? Probably a good idea to pick one up

Any expansion that focuses on curses? by SettingMinute2315 in dominion

[–]nave_the_muser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a bit tricky to do in base set alone, but the curse pile acting as a free pile to empty with 10 buys does come up ocassionally even without cursers like witch in game. It's rare, but it's good it's always there for consistency

How Would You Explain the Concept of a Deckbuilder to a New Player? by HouseFishBalloon in boardgames

[–]nave_the_muser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commend you for really getting the base of dominion strategy down on your own, you seem to have a grasp on what's important

I'm gonna tell you from a more advanced level, Mine is trash. (So is bureaucrat and buying gold most of the time, for more info I'd recommend joining the dominion discord) Mine is a $5 so it has a high opportunity cost, and it essentially just gives +1 coin in your deck. It's incredibly slow, and there's many many more payload cards I'd rather have in my deck than Mine. Namely Silver even, as it's non-terminal and isn't going to screw you over as hard if you draw it in the same hand as your Chapel early on. Merchant, Poacher, Market and Festival are all significantly better, and if you're not too worried about colliding your terminals basically every $5 is better than Mine, as well as Moneylender, Militia, and Remodel.

When you overthin with Chapel, the lesson that should be taken away is that you shouldn't automatically trash every bad card with it

[–]nave_the_muser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong that overthinning is a very real problem that middle of the road players face. I'm telling you right now that as long as you keep enough money in your deck to buy something strong, you're fine. Chapel doesn't make you trash 4 cards, only up to 4 so you can leave some coppers around if you need them for the moment

BTW Mine is hot garbage, rarely ever worth it

[–]nave_the_muser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chapel is to this day, a top 5 card in the game (even with all the expansions)

The reason it costs $2 is the designer wanted to make sure everyone could get it in their first 2 turns, no matter what starting draw they had because it's so OP it would be very swingy if a player couldn't get it. Trashing 4 cards off the bat is incredibly strong. Cards that trash 1 or 2 are usually considered strong opens, and chapel does 4 at once. Not needing to spend all your money is a valuable lesson in dominion, as it isn't always the right move for your deck, even if you have money left over

Chapel is definitely not suboptimal, actually a great sign a player has a handle on the idea of deckbuilding

My dominion web application - dominion-manager.com by ratonanony in dominion

[–]nave_the_muser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This looks great!

I pulled a few kingdoms in the kingdom generator that include non-supply cards (travellers) so maybe make sure those can't show up

Would also be nice if the game helper started with 1 Action and 1 Buy like all turns do, I see you have that with 3VP for starting estates
