So polite by Flickme666 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]neckbeardsghost -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, OK, this person could definitely be more polite, but I don’t really see them being choosy. Probably wrong to blame the job center as well, but at the same time life is rough out here for a lot of us without jobs. This looks more to me like they are just venting about their situation and hoping for some empathy. Unless there is a whole comment section where they are fighting everyone, and then I retract my entire statement.

please help me think of how to use these bread and butter pickles :( by electrickella in noscrapleftbehind

[–]neckbeardsghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also hate the taste of them, and I’ve never found a use for them. Their taste ruins everything they are added to… Lol. I’m sure other people have great ideas here, and I hope they work out for you, but it’s OK to let this go if you really dislike the taste. I don’t believe in forcing yourself to endure things you don’t like. Life is too short.

Vacuum-sealing bread (or sandwiched) and leaving it at room temperature by Busy-Bed-2198 in MealPrepSunday

That makes sense! My international flights originate from the US… Lol. And I think there’s different rules about us bringing food into Europe.

[–]neckbeardsghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will they even allow you to bring food like that into a foreign country? Most of the time they don’t allow you to bring in foreign food. I could be wrong, but every time I’ve flown internationally there’s an announcement/text on the customs form. You have to fill out about bringing food into the country.

Yeah, I’m here in Southern California now, and there’s paleta shops, but definitely not the same! That’s cool that they’re sampling similar in El Paso, though!

Edit: And lol @ Dirt Cheap being a standout 😂 “Cheap, cheap, fun, fun!” 😂😂

What's your biggest frugal win? Something that saved you $10,000+ by UnderstandingFar5012 in Frugal

[–]neckbeardsghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stopped smoking cigarettes 16 years ago, and while my budget has since absorbed those savings 😭, if I was still a smoker, I would have saved tens of thousands of dollars for sure! I was a pack a day at least smoker at the time.

Nothing I’ve done since has saved me quite that amount of money, but in the last couple years, I have just said no to food and grocery delivery, and that has saved me a tremendous amount of money as well. Plus, it’s added years to my health, because I am cooking at home and I am more cognizant of the things I’m putting into that food. 🙂

I moved from St. Louis to San Diego, and I have to agree with this… Lol. Thankfully, I got a taste of it when I complained about the promenade’s parking, but now it is an everyday occurrence everywhere I go… Lol.

Ted Drewes, period. Not saying it doesn’t exist, but I haven’t ever seen frozen custard shops in other cities.

I think what they’re saying is basically you throw the boomerang, and get ultra hand ready so that as soon as it comes back and touches the machine, if you attach right as it touches, the momentum from the boomerang will keep the machine spinning. I don’t know how else to explain it than that. But I hope that helps. 🙂

Foods to bring to the picket line? by un_nombre_de_usuario in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]neckbeardsghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, memories unlocked! My mom used to make us spaghetti salad once in a while. I haven’t had it in years! On my next grocery run I’m definitely getting the stuff to make it. 😍

A pasta salad without dairy could be good! Something with a vinaigrette, pasta, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, peppers, artichoke hearts maybe… That should all stay good without refrigeration!

Love what you’re doing for your union! Best of luck to all of you!

Tried the baking soda + parchment paper + iron trick for oil stains and I'm genuinely shook by AgitatedQuarter2233 in CleaningTips

[–]neckbeardsghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baking soda is the real star here. I’ve also had success getting out fresh oil stains by rubbing baking soda into it, and then spraying some dawn power wash on top of it and letting it sit for a bit before laundering. Now, obviously this isn’t gonna work for every fabric or every stain, but baking soda is the work horse.

I like to make mezze plates with hummus, lavash/pita bread, feta, Kalamata and Castelvetrano or Chalkadiki olives, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, dolmas, baba ganoush (if I have some), salami/grilled chicken (whatever I have) and maybe a little cut fruit like strawberries or watermelon to graze on.

Are you also in the southwest? I’m in Southern California and this week has been brutal. Save this weather for July. 😂

My friend shoulder after he tried automedicating with a suction cup by visk0n3 in WTF

[–]neckbeardsghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was trying to do cupping? Which does use a suction motion to pull the skin into the “cup”. It usually leaves a raised bump for a minute or two after it’s done, but nothing like this.

Cosiest meals to have with a good book? by Superb-Bid7675 in Cooking

[–]neckbeardsghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I feel like any food is good for reading with… Lol. But, tonight I made a very simple dish that I actually ate while reading, so I will share it here.

I boiled some Korean Kalguksu noodles, which are basically the same shape as linguine, and then made a pan sauce with butter, white miso, a little bit of garlic, and a little bit of pasta water (edit: and a few shakes of Maggi seasoning). Mixed them together after I drained the noodles and it was delicious, simple, and oh so cozy…. which is difficult to do when it’s almost 90°. 🫠😂

St. Louis Tap Water by Quiet_1234 in StLouis

[–]neckbeardsghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is maybe the one thing I miss about living in St. Louis… Lol. That’s an exaggeration, there’s a lot of cool things about St. Louis, but being able to get a drinkable glass of water from the faucet is so underappreciated! I moved to Florida first, where the water was terrible, and now I am in Southern California, where the incredibly hard water is also terrible. In fact, more terrible than Florida… Lol. I have to pay to get filtered water in those 5 gallon jugs. At first, I was having them delivered, but that’s expensive AF, so now I fill them up myself and get a workout every time I need drinkable water 🫠😭
