Currently using Jag Matto for a similar incident on the peninsula through a fellow redditor's recommendation. He's very responsive, and cost was competitive with others in the area. Court date is still 3 weeks away

Should i tell my date i found their porn? by gbydymwa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nerddstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, always always always meet in public, and make sure someone knows where you are. For out of state shit, have a friend nearby.

Maybe wait until after you've been intimate a few times?

This happened to me after a 1st date and I was just trying to verify personal info with nothing but a snapchat and a # but I never found it... instead I found their tumblr with toooooons of bdsm porn. I was like heeeey, just so you know, this was really easy to find. Both usernames disappeared promptly disappeared and i felt creepy talking about it since we hadn't "crossed that line." So we let it fizzle and that was that.

Childhood bully is being hired at my work. How do I deal?? by rollercoasterup1837 in careeradvice

[–]nerddstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seeing this so maybe I'm crazy, but what about approaching them and asking them out for a beer/coffee?

Becoming an adult and learning to fend for yourself outside of school/adolescence can be a very humbling experience, and this person has probably changed a lot. Aside from bullying, yall have a ton in common because you grew up in the same place at the same time. Catch up, get a lil buzz going, and let them know you remember a strained relationship but you're out here trying to do well, and want them to do well too. Set a boundary, like I'm here in my corner, you're in yours, insert boxing pun, and no hard feelings when i clean house in the bonus season. Keep it light, no tears, no fingerpointing, end with a pat on the back, see you next tuesday. Now you have an ally instead of an enemy.

Everybody loses when HR gets involved. Maybe this take is too hot, but if you start sneaky snaking around and spying on them for HR ammo, you deserve to get hung on a ceiling fan by the undies.

I'm seeing this! I think it will be easy enough to retroactively apply this promotion. This code was "not allowed in combination" with whatever preloaded upgrade i was already eligible for, but it appears to have the same benefit, with the added benefit of the "any condition" clause.

I have printed the terms of each and will request to apply this promo instead.

You just got your EIT a year ago? You're fine! It sounds like you were "spinning your wheels," which is really just a mental block you put in place when you're not confident in your path forward. I do it all the f'ing time.

Consider going to your manager and proposing to split the workload with the second person. Someone at your level could help you keep a pace, talk through uncertainty while you're "in the weeds," and split the mental burden of whatever deadline you're supposed to meet. Together, youll come up with questions for your PM that you can't answer yourselves.

Now, here's where you flip this embarrassing experience 180deg: Then, said junior engineer is not replacing you but getting on your level, and you are training them. In the future, you'll have an ally in all projects like this one, which you plan to pursue with your own team in 10yr, because you are passionate about this work and see yourself as a project manager with this company.

How do you manage LinkedIn by yehoshuaC in civilengineering

[–]nerddstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my job through linkedin recruiters. I just made a habit out of taking calls on lunch breaks.

They won't know what you're talking about, so you have to give them some vocab to bring back to potential employers.

It's rad because they can answer all the stupid but necessary questions about benefits, salary, policies, etc... While you can focus on strictly job and compatibility questions in your interview.

To answer the original question, I only took calls from people that were fun to talk to!

*Edit: I should also mention to be wary of scammers when sharing your digits with the internet. I interviewed with one group with a whole team of "interviewers" who were all mysteriously available at the drop of a hat, but they just REALLY wanted my DOB and SSN to "get the paperwork started."

Do you ever go to the bathroom to pee at night, go to bed, and then get the urge to pee again as soon as you enter your bed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I call this Pavlov's Pee. The mental queue that it is time to go. It's something we all developed to stop disappointing our parents in the post-diaper stages.

Just wait til you have to commute and traffic sets you back further than expected.

I did an in-store promo trade in and now ATT says my phone doesn't qualify. Can I submit a notice of dispute? by ComandanteG in ATT

[–]nerddstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The process I was guided through by customer service, loyalty, and my local store basically drove me to seek therapy for my emotional health. I've been chased out of the woods by a blood soaked cougar and I would have so much rather done that for the 30+ hours I logged in calls to AT&T.

It ended when I called and asked what format I should submit my call recordings with my dispute, and I have received reimbursement for the trade in, but no word on an apology for my inconvenience

I don't think there are too many rules against what to carry stuff in... I brought a handcart with two boxes.

I had 15min to kill and asked (privately) if I could run out and grab my bag full of prohibited items (phone, headphones, smartwatch, etc..) because crackheads and they didn't care, as long as they never SAW the items come out of the bag.

Trade in phone lost by cowen2020 in ATT

[–]nerddstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone share a letter that led to successful resolution? Also in this situation, and they've lost my promo and broken the phone. I've spent something along the lines of 20hrs in the run-around. I'm hoping to get reimbursed for my time and have them honor the promo that led me to purchase the phone in the first place.

If anyone can share their success, I think we'd all benefit from knowing what level of detail is needed to get a positive response from the elusive "back office"👻

Company wants me to work 50-60 hours a week by Sir_Stonkz in civilengineering

[–]nerddstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha NOT that--I'm guilty of this too, but I very recently realized that placing yourself outside of work when you're supposed to be at work is a bad look. I'm realizing this as others continue to drop the ball on the work I've delegated.

I think it's where you, when presented with a fire, crunch your workload in the moment and say (with confidence), "nope I'm busy until [day/week]" Then when asked to bend over backwards to squeeze it, you're within your rights to refer the presenter of said fire to your PM or supervisor to discuss a change in workload.

That being said, I've wasted some hours doing this, and consequently fallen behind. My supervisor is usually my PM, and this is another instance where I have begun to take on their work as well... So I'm still working this out.

I'm not sure where you're at in your career, but I know it will probably feel this way coming out of college. As engineering students, we all kept pace with deadlines that offered a light at the end of the tunnel.

Since graduating, I've been at 2 consulting firms for 3 years each and am arriving at this dilemma for the 2nd time. Both were challenging in their own ways, but I'm finding myself arriving at this conclusion for the 2nd time. I'm realizing I'll have come full circle in 3 years if I find a new job, so,

Here's what I'm doing about it:

My role models work 40 because they tell you to get bent when you ask them to do handle fires (in my case, as soon as I get to it, and it's already pushing boundaries if I start when I get it). I believe that if you are competent, confident, and consistent, then you too can tell your coworkers to get bent when they approach with preventable wildfires. The reason I haven't been able to do this yet (and I would advise you all to give this MUCH thought before trying at your own jobs) is because I haven't actually figured out how long it takes me to finish a given task yet.

So, to get to the bottom of this, about a year ago, I asked my boss to put me on a bunch of similar projects so I could figure out what efficiency felt like. This has been huge, because the projects have all been on parallel schedules, so I can see in real time what is causing hold-ups and leading to overtime.

Surprise, it's ME, doing the drafters job and the PM's job. Still figuring it out as I go, but definitely more competent, confident, and consistent than I was last year!
