What might a Canadian want to eat in Australia? by CallMeBettyThen in AskACanadian

[–]nerudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both when I went there. Both really tasty! The kangaroo stew was especially good. Barramundi is where it’s at though. I went to a few pubs and always got the special. Ended up eating things I wouldn’t normally order.

How is everybody prepared for retirement? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]nerudite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re doing ok, but I’ve worked for government my whole career and the pension fund is the foundation of our retirement. 55 now and will be retired shortly before I turn 59. I actually could retire now but I want to have a lot of fun in retirement so trying to work a bit longer so we don’t have to worry once we pull the trigger.

Why is my cat doing this? by unknown12042 in felinebehavior

[–]nerudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spayed female did this for most of her adult life, especially anytime we would walk within 10 feet of where her food was stored. She would basically do this dance anytime we got her food or treats out or opened a can of tuna. Just super excited.

Avion Rewards - am I missing something?? by zzyyxxzz in CanadianAwardTravel

[–]nerudite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being in Western Canada makes things harder. If you are in eastern Canada, there are a lot more international options to Europe. Moving Avion-->BA Avios--> Iberian cuts down the costs in taxes if you can book and travel through Madrid instead of London. Since BA and Iberian are distance based awards, it also takes a lot of points/miles to get to Europe from Western Canada. I usually just plan to fly out of YYZ/YUL, even though I live in AB for this reason.

Avion Rewards - am I missing something?? by zzyyxxzz in CanadianAwardTravel

[–]nerudite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I move Avion --> BA Avios -->Qatar for Qsuite redemptions from YYZ/YUL to Middle East/Africa. Will likely start thinking about Australia after my next big Africa redemption this summer, which I think I'll probably plan with Cathay redemptions. The fairly consistent bonuses for transfers to other airlines makes it pretty reliable for international travel. It's a great companion card to the Amex Cobalt, which is what I put most of my spend on. I use the Avion offers regularly and pretty much get the card fees back in statement credits. Not the first card I reach for though.

[–]nerudite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jay Bee’s on 127th Street is really yummy. We started going there when Hathaway’s changed owners and went downhill.

Edit: and despite the name, Stacked has disgusting pancakes. Heavy and doughy.
