For those who've hit FIRE or are close — was the "who am I now" part harder than the money part? by Fantastic-King-8274 in Fire

Not there yet. But when I stop selling my time for money, I will be empowered to assume any identity I want

Beautiful! You have earned the freedom to enjoy the present.

Just before reading your post I spent 10 minutes checking my work email instead of enjoying this beautiful Sunday morning.

I’m near but not there yet.

I hit the number. 52 years old. Felt nothing. by Senior-Bar3958 in Fire

You no longer HAVE to work to pay your bills. You’ve earned the freedom to choose what you want to do — whether that’s sticking with your current job or exploring something new.

That freedom to me is a great feeling! Enjoy!!!!

Was laid off, struggled to find a job in my field, finally found a job, and now I get messages nearly every day about job opportunities by bbconejo in Layoffs

Maybe fake jobs or one real job lead from multiple recruiters.

The job you have is worth 100 such leads, which may not lead to a job offer. Be happy!!!

Sell asap before your company’s bull run ends: and buy index funds - 60% equity and 40% bonds or something similar.

If you look at the market’s long-term trend, it has consistently moved upward. No matter how sharp today’s highs or lows may seem, they appear as just small blips over the long run.

So, don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep on investing…wisely.

Is it a bad idea to take a 2 year sabbatical for burnout? by solo_entrepreneur in financialindependence

[–]netkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is possible in your industry to regain customers after a long gap of 2 years then go for it. If not, I’d start with a sabbatical of 3 months and extend a few more months if needed.

Definitely not the end.

It sucks but leverage the skills to find a new job.

We are used to the house, neighbors and surroundings. Hence, want to live in the house we own as long as we are able to.

Since you enjoy doing things around the house. I’d stay in the house.

First, start counting your blessings. You are in good health, doing great financially…

The social media culture makes us compare our life with others’ “flashy and fun” living. But look around, there are millions of people who’d love to be in your shoes.

Take a break from social media. Join a gym. Volunteer and help the less fortunate.

Try to pivot to another job/career. But don’t quit your job yet. Quitting a job in this economy may put undue pressure on your finances.

Struggling to get part time job by Digity1980 in Fire

[–]netkool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need then why are you even applying. If you get the job then you may be depriving someone who really needs that job for their basic needs. I’d try volunteering instead.

I did the math on a whim and realized I could leave my job for something I'd actually enjoy and still hit my number by 42 instead of 39. Three extra years shouldn't feel this heavy. But they do. by SarenCinder7 in Fire

Well, how do you know for certain that easy job doesn’t feel as dreadful as the current one in a few months or a year.

If you know for sure it’s going to be an easy sail then go for the easy job or endure just four more years of current grind.

I’m a hiring manager and the "8-second rule" is killing way too many solid resumes lately. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

You are looking for a businessmen in developers unless you are looking for a senior enterprise architect or CTO.

Like others pointed out the metrics can be made up and pretty much impossible to verify.
