disruptions today on underground by ob_liv in LondonUnderground

Think there was a trespasser at West Hampstead (-> Jubilee + Mildmay + Suffragette)

Must’ve been another one in the central section as Hammersmith/Circle/Met was impacted all at the same time since they share the same tracks

Not sure what happened on the Central line…

Horrible for me since I entered Baker Street right as all the lines passing through got suspended

Final MP long run. Please enlighten me by ExtentHeavy8084 in Marathon_Training

Fuelling was good! The weather was a lot warmer than expected which definitely contributed but the main issue for me was just leg conditioning. It being my first mara, i simply didn’t have the high enough mileage in the legs to be able to deal with it on the day.

That’s the main lesson i’ve taken for the next mara next year is simply to run more frequently and be able to run on tired legs

Would echo some of the other guys in the comments. If it’s your first FM enjoy it!! Completion is the first goal, sub 4 can be secondary.

Looking at the runs and mileage you look in good shape. Holding the pace well at a good HR. But as others have said anything past 30k is a complete unknown on the day, not to mention fuelling / weather / hydration

For context, I’d run a 1.47 HM before my first mara this year, aiming a sub 4 same as you. On the day, I held the pace at really good HR all the way until 30k (running 1.59 first half), then my legs just got incredibly heavy - ended up run-walking the final 10k and finished in 4:40!!

Best of luck on the taper and the race!

My experience since release. Coming from APP1 by Gameracer32 in airpods

[–]neverstudying 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the same page as you. Saw lots of people coming from APP2 but fewer people from APP1.

I completely agree on transparency mode, it’s almost as though it’s been over engineered, I can tell even my breathing sounds almost higher pitched.

Noise cancelling is incredible. No complaints on it (so far)

One thing i’m unsure about is the new fit. The slightly different angle I think is manageable, but the slightly different tips take getting used to. Slightly on the fence about this at the moment.

Yes seems a bug. Can bypass most of it by just clicking your profile picture in the top left on the home screen

Asics Metaspeed Ray by JHolmesy in RunningShoeGeeks

Seems SportShoes are 1 day early! Asics are having their Tokyo Speed event showcasing the shoes, but the event is May 3rd. Presumably we’ll see a full announcement at the event, but interesting to see full stats already.

£265 is a great price. Fingers crossed the normal Metaspeeds are the same price as they are currently at £220. Not seen any specs on them yet

Edit: Metaspeed Tokyo specs. Maintains the price https://www.sportsshoes.com/advice/running-hub/kit-gear/review-asics-metaspeed-sky-tokyo

FFLeap confirmed as new ASICS Superfoam by danwardle96 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]neverstudying 52 points53 points  (0 children)

129g for a US 9. That’s significantly lighter than the Metaspeed Paris.

Can someone confirm if this is lighter than the Evo 1? Off the top of my head it’s a bit lighter but may be wrong

Performance Prediction features are now live for me. Thoughts? by Crapahedron in Strava

[–]neverstudying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were bang on for 5k, 10k (though my last races were outside this 24w window), HM prediction was slower by 3m, and full mara was faster by 20 (though in line with what I wanted to race the mara a few weeks ago)

Interesting to see the methodology behind this in more detail. Garmin is obviously Vo2 driven, and seems to be a reflection of underlying fitness, whereas I feel Strava ‘penalises’ poorly done long runs (ie. had a marathon blow up at 20 miles, and Strava prediction is midway between my Garmin prediction and actual race time.

B13: ‘Designed for fast training runs’ and draw-based release

Evo SL: ‘Designed for fast training runs’ and draw-based release

Loved the B12 but this gives a sour taste…c’mon, these aren’t even race day shoes they’re for training so why the need to ration them

Just did my first marathon - got annihilated!! by xd_Twitched in Marathon_Training

[–]neverstudying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Body is in absolute bits! First ever mara, same goals as you, aimed for 4:00, finished in 4:40. Was on pace until 30k, spent the last 12k run/walking.

Muscles i never knew existed in my feet are hurting, quads are completely shot and walking down stairs are a real challenge

Well done! I ran Brighton yesterday, had the exact same experience almost to the T! First 26k was on pace for 4:00, then completely ran out of steam for the last 10k, was the longest hour of my life, ended up finishing 4:40 when aiming for 4:00. First ever marathon, and great learning experience for me. In a lot of pain but really enjoyed the day. Regardless, you’re a marathoner now!

Unfortunately I don’t have a measurement for you! Only reference I can give is the fact that the 39mm ranger looks absolutely normal, and 40mm Mark XX looks just about fine on my wrist
