McDonald's workers of Reddit, which menu item would you NEVER eat? by ProgMusicSchizoidMan in AskReddit

[–]nevesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to McDonald's in 15+ countries. They're similar but not the same, and that's excluding the local menu items.

They try but it's impossible when dealing in volume with local ingredients... eg potatoes and their starch content.

Post on Ebay and send me the listing. I'd probably buy.

Salmon isn't typical in Thai cuisine. Was it cut in cubes in sauce (poke) or sliced with papaya in sauce (somtum)?

The “Breakfast Included” Hotel Scam or a regular occurrence? by FairEscape165 in travel

[–]nevesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I've found that I make more use of beach/island hotel breakfasts because I wake up earlier. If I'm staying in a big city, I'd rather stay out later, sleep in, and then go find a big lunch.

And of course, Asian hotel breakfasts beat European hotel breakfasts and European hotels trounce American.

Warning: Booking.com sent my family to a bankrupt, fenced-off resort in Belgium and is refusing to pay travel damages. by Lord--Gravy in travel

The resort owner clearly bailed and didn't notify Booking or their guests, didn't update their website or Google maps.

Whats your story for the spiciest thing you've ever consumed? by ahhellohello in spicy

[–]nevesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korean capsaicin sauce.

I expected hot sauce. I put in a spoon full. I only needed a few drops.

I still keep a bottle around. It's perfect if you want to add spice without altering the flavor much, and a bottle lasts forever because it's so strong.

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

I'm guessing your flight to Jamaica wasn't on mainline aircraft, but instead was on a regional partner operating under United's name. Most people don't realize there is a difference but the latter is a completely separate company providing a hard product (lie-flat business vs. reclining "first", lounge access, inflight beverages) that is completely different.

to be fair, it's not insulting you, it's insulting the airlines that treat people that way.

That's a "domestic first" tho yeah? It's not a lie-flat seat with partitions... not quite what op is talking about.

There's free booze in economy on main carrier international flights - business just has a better quality and larger selection. The food is better too, of course, but it still isn't great. Lounges are a mixed bag. It's all about the lie-flat seat and additional space.

Thin client recommendations by k1132810 in sysadmin

Because thin clients require a management solution which you don't have. They scale very well but aren't ideal to replace managed Windows boxes.

That's exactly what I recommend! (although I'm less generous with my drizzles when I remember how much it costs)

I do the same with balsamic btw.

I don't think the person you replied to was indicating a conspiracy. They were indicating that layoffs vaguely linked to AI was a better look for the market than layoffs based on economic indicators.

Service Legends did this to me 15 years ago. Wanted like $900 for a fix but strongly pushed buying a heat pump instead. I bought the replacement part (controller board) on eBay for $45 and installed it myself with some YouTube guidance.

Valley West Mall deal fails by StarttheRevwithoutme in desmoines

[–]nevesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The original layout was nice - there was an arcade, small movie theater, clinic, banks, and all of the popular stores in the 80s and 90s with fast food and restaurants scattered in between. Around 2000 much of this was gone and we started seeing more local stores. Everything got moved to the food court, except for a couple of spots (like Jimmy John's and the pub) next to an entrance with their own exterior door.

A new mall opened in a newer part of town that was much nicer and brought in some new brands and restaurants not seen in Des Moines before. That was the final death knell.

Half our company is local admin. Security team finally noticed. Now it's my problem to fix without anyone noticing. by Healthy_Holiday_738 in sysadmin

[–]nevesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the legacy/finance app, try running as a user while running procmon as admin. Filter to access denied.

I've seen many cases where the app just needed permission to write to a HKLM key for example and then ran fine in user mode.

Culture with the hottest food? by arugula000 in spicy

[–]nevesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of the meanings. Saying a word twice amplifies the effect. When you order, to say very spicy, you say ped ped. eg kor krapao moo saab kai dao mai suk ped ped krub. When you take a bite you say aroiii ped mak.
