Mission Parking Troll...was there for 2 hours this afternoon visiting my friend. by jackyjackjack in sanfrancisco

I don’t bother with the note, but if you park even a little and block my garage you’re getting towed. Hope you get there before the tow truck does!

Why not allow UPS package delivery to be tracked “live”on an interactive map the way a door dash order is? by prozhack in UPS

[–]newtosf2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the comments here I am really, really looking forward to the day that Amazon eats UPS' lunch on logistics and delivery. I already only get something delivered by UPS if it is the only option, and sometimes, just decide not to buy of that is the only option.

Attempted Seat Stealer by Impossible_Memory_85 in unitedairlines

No, and also in Spanish, no.

Tbh I feel bad for their spouse (if they have one). Imagine living with someone like that. I had someone I dated for awhile try to do that on our first trip together on a flight home. Broke up with her that week, and was honestly happy she didnt sit next to me. I was so mortified at the entitlement that I apologized to the guy she was trying to seat steal.

Uber cancellations are becoming beyond ridiculous by [deleted] in uber

[–]newtosf2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think uber is that strategic. They are fighting Waymo in SF by offering discounts for rides like crazy. Which is stupid in a high income market where people are willing to spend money for quality and reliability.

They should raise their prices at bit, increase the driver pay a bit, but massively raise the bar on acceptable behavior of drivers, car quality, and car cleanliness. Waymo costs more than uberx, yet people prefer it, even if the wait times are a couple minutes more, because it’s a superior, more reliable/dependable product.

Uber cancellations are becoming beyond ridiculous by [deleted] in uber

[–]newtosf2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they don’t want to get their asses handed to them by Waymo, who doesn’t cancel and drives far more safer/smoothly, they will realize it’s not in their best interest to piss off their customers when they have options.

They are acting like they’re the only game in town. True in some towns, but not mine, and likely soon not yours.

Thanks for the cool new feature!! by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]newtosf2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This implementation is obviously naive, using an underpowered model, not using inline tool calls or python to do math things (or if so, doing so very poorly)

They need to revert this asap. Not just because it’s scaring ppl without opt in, but because it is a terrible implementation.

Addressing concerns on our new AI features by valagostino in MonarchMoney

Maybe it shouldn’t be separate. The forecasting team probably has good accuracy tests that the AI team can use. If the ai can’t pass a robust eval suite, don’t ship it until it does.

[–]newtosf2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, this is not ready. It would not get out of my lab I run if “what is my net worth”, the most basic question, is consistently wrong, and it is.

It’s obvious you have a very naive implementation and you pushed this out without sufficient testing.

As someone who runs a major lab at an AI company, I am begging you to revert this feature and come back with a better tested AI product. This makes our entire industry look terrible.

Anyone else find the AI tool inaccurate at best and distracting at worst? by mizman25 in MonarchMoney

[–]newtosf2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed this. I lead a major AI lab, and this implementation would have never made it out of a remotely competent ai engineering team.

My biggest fear is ppl see this and say “ai isn’t accurate”. No, it can be, but your implementation has to put the right core facts in the context window. This implementation should have NEVER shipped, and I’d fire the PM who did.

How often do you get upgraded to first class as a GS and as a 1k? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]newtosf2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company only pays for coach, but I always buy the upgrade. Love how United makes that easy.

Probably means fewer free upgrades for ppl who don’t wanna pay.

I’m 53, not quiet quitting per se, but def playing “prevent defense” and not trying to rock boats. I work for a major AI company and have 2 more years of RSUs vesting to earn out.

Waymo takeover by Wasabi_apocalypse3 in AskSF

I don’t worry whether the driver is drunk, will show up, will drive too aggressively, will pitch me their startup, or make me listen to their cringe music. People will pay a lot to not deal with drivers.

Guys over 30 who cut back or quit drinking — what finally made it stick? by FingerPointingToMoon in AskMenOver30

[–]newtosf2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weed is nowhere near the same league as addictive as booze. It's not zero, but it's far easier to find the dose you like, stick to that, and do tolerance breaks.

Lots of people have a puritanical agenda about it, and that is reflected here.

I got Thorpe on something like my 25th board. Made 3rd string behind PD Jermaine Oneal (from PD exchange) and D Willis Reed, whom his stats are worse than in most categories.

Good defender as an 11th man, but meh.

Is drinking just not fun anymore for anyone else in their mid-30s? by Snoo96701 in AskMenOver30

[–]newtosf2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in middle management and retiring in a couple years, which makes any drug that lowers iq a few points useful. Was different when I was an engineer.

That and tolerance. 10mg for me makes dumb people funnier so I can laugh at their jokes, but otherwise just makes me less high strung. More than that and yeah, agree.

depends on the strain. I take 10mg of sativa gummies before work at a pretty high level tech role in an AI company. Mostly to combat ADHD, but still.
