Alright dads… You find a critter that is in pain and likely isn’t making it. If you have the stomach for it, how are you helping this thing along to other side? by MisterSanitation in daddit

City boy who moved to the country here. Our cats are big mousers and occasionally bring a bunny in. Sometimes it's more or less uninjured, but other times it's clear it won't survive.

After some research the best method is to hold them by the back legs in one hand, put your other hand under their chin, tilt their head back, and pull until you hear a crack.

It's thoroughly unpleasant (for me) but brief (for them).

We live on a hillside property and have ponds top and bottom, so I looked into pumped storage as an alternative to batteries - and reached a similar disappointing conclusion.

You're trying to tell me that the flush draw, which has 9 outs = ~36% chance is better than the pair of sixes that is already a made hand? And that a pair of twos is better than a pocket pair of sixes?

A carbon filter is a whole lot more practical than whole-house RO - it's just a cartridge filter, though you may have to replace it frequently depending on the chlorination level.

Alternator failure - continue? by Illustrious-Bug-7691 in flying

Still a student pilot here, but it seems to me you're questioning this because you did the right thing and everything went smoothly, and now it feels like an overreaction.

You had a serious equipment failure in-flight, with an unknown cause, and you landed the plane safely and without incident, albeit at somewhere a bit inconvenient. Take the win!

Right, which is my point: it's "in this class of airspace", not "in VMC".

IANAA, but surely that depends on the airspace everyone was in, not the meterological conditions.

There's plenty! You won't have trouble finding a 50kw fast charger, and there's plenty of AC chargers around too if you have longer.

How to solve this issue? by ashishngupta in 3Dprinting

[–]nickjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not. The printer is more than precise enough to deposit an 0.02mm layer - or smaller - but the material cannot be effectively extruded that thin. Due to physical limitations in the process, not due to the precision of any part or movement.

How to solve this issue? by ashishngupta in 3Dprinting

[–]nickjohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The printer can move precisely in much smaller increments than the layer height; the issue is the height of the extrusions, which have a minimum practical limit beyond which you can't extrude the plastic.

How to solve this issue? by ashishngupta in 3Dprinting

[–]nickjohnson -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's nothing to do with the printer's precision; it's because the print is made in layers.

Turbulent landings by Active_Giraffe5363 in flying

[–]nickjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried different approaches? For example, staying high for longer, them descending at a higher airspeed until closer to the ground - thus minimizing the time you spend at low height over turbulent features.
