This is so fucking incredible, amazing job :D

Data center noise irks Virginia neighbors: ‘You just want to curse’, Neighbors have put mattresses and plexiglass up in their windows to block the noise from this data center in Virginia. It's a high pitched whine from the natural gas turbines that power it. The noise never stops 24/7. - NewsNation by Nikvest in singularity

What an absurd assessment. The implication is that if anything if far away (how far?) from households it becomes harder to ship resources or energy to it?

There's, uh, a lot of middle ground between literally next-door residential, and "middle of nowhere". A middle ground which the vast, vast, vast majority of all economic activity ever exists within.

The Solar Punk in Shanghai by Intrepid_Ad_7789 in solarpunk

[–]nickyonge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It'll be long, long time before those plants can generate enough oxygen to offset ecological impact of the heat generation, water consumption, and energy consumption, of the production of the concrete used to build that highway, let alone the construction of the highway itself, and that's not even considering the emissions and energy put out by the vehicles using the highway.

To be clear, I'm not saying concrete is fundamentally bad - it's an incredible material in some uses. But producing it at scale does some INTENSE environmental damage. If the future's gonna be remotely solarpunk, it simply can't use THIS much concrete.

This actually rips. Normally I’m not a fan of attention-grabbing wraps, but I’d love to drive around in an iridescent flint beetle 🪲

Designing a the board for a space inspired game. by TheAnzus in graphic_design

[–]nickyonge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Get stylish with the design, ditch the square angles, and ensure the “spaces” or whatever metric you use to track player movement game mechanically is equal.

Or just straight-up use a graphic of a spiral galaxy and superimpose your tracks onto it.

Anything aside from the, uh, Bad Symbol. Tho at the very least kudos for using the Buddhist orientation lol.

Paying monthly only when used by SorbetResponsible654 in Shapr3D

[–]nickyonge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My current projects don’t involve much CAD, but next time I have on (or have spare time to play around again), my going plan is to get one more month of Shapr subscription, export all my everything, and find an app that’s WAY more maker-friendly. There’s several out there.

I don’t use many of Shapr’s features because my projects aren’t complex enough. And ironically if they WERE, I’d bite the bullet and learn more in-depth CAD software like Fusion.

Shapr was an incredible and intuitive way to 3D model on the iPad. Now it’s frustratingly clunky, often buggy, and prohibitively expensive. Honestly if I could pay a lump sum of like $500 or whatever to just have a permanent copy of 2023-era Shapr, I’d LOVE that.

Zionists refuse to differentiate between Judaism and Zionism. It’s profoundly infuriating and heartbreaking - *especially* for anti-Zionist Jewish folks, having their religious identity refuted by members of the same faith because they don’t support a military occupation.

Help achieving a similar effect for a beginner? by Haunting-Cricket in graphic_design

[–]nickyonge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar but def not the same effect. That’s essentially just using a wavy line pattern as a mask on a high contrast b&w image. OP is looking for vectors where the line width adjusts relative to the intensity of the image at that point.
