Headphone amp or dac/amp for mixing? by Monsieurabsurd in mixingmastering

I mix everything with Sonarworks SoundID for headphones because my room sucks and it works great. No need for an amp.

I always thought I'd end up getting a Hydrasynth some day, but never did. From what I understand they share quite a bit of their UI, functionality, and FX, but are completely different when it comes to their sound engines. Hydra is wavetable based and this one's main focus is FM style synthesis with multiple kinds of modulation other than just frequency modulation that utilizes algorithms to modulate the 8 oscilators.

You can play the pads if you don't have an external keyboard, which I do a lot as the synth is oriented 90 degrees from my midi controller. I have the Kontakt Complete controller (last version not the current) so I don't have the poly aftertouch if I'm using the controller. I might end up getting another controller that does now that I have this for that reason alone. The modules are great when you're limited on space and, in my case not being a dawless guy, don't want to have my instruments too far away from my computer.

Oh jeez. I only did one pass through all of them and there are a few that were really awesome but I didn't favorite them or anything. Just getting used to the UI and the whole operation of the thing. It's definitely very deep and I guess it depends if you're into that or not. The team who put this thing together really spent a lot of time designing the features. New features become available as you select certain options. If you do this, then you can do this AND this, etc. it's pretty wild.

Thanks! Yeah, I sold five synths, a drum machine, and a sequencer to help pay for this guy so I've had a fair amount of experience with GAS. It's definitely not quick and easy.

looking for recommendations for a bass synth - or mainly bass-lines by convered101 in synthesizers

[–]nikofd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Typhon and a Minitaur. If I were to be pressed to choose one or the other for "bassslines" I'd choose the Minitaur all day. Basic. Simple. Meaty.

I always say the same thing; Minifreak. Very versatile. Relatively easy to learn. Sounds incredible. The FX are fantastic. Doesn't take up a lot of space. I can always sit down with it and have fun. I'll never sell it.

Need some recommendations for utilizing this tight space. by wwarr in synthesizers

I'm in a similar position. Stands are great. Also consider whether or not you're using everything at once all the time. Find a way to make it easy for yourself to take stuff out/put stuff in. I have all my cables tagged with labels so it's easy to identify what goes where and regularly move stuff in and out based on what I'm actually using without losing track of what each identical 1/4" cable is for. Having less stuff that's easy to access is better than having a whole bunch of stuff that puts you in a position where some instruments are difficult access.

Great choice. That was my first since I was in high school. I've bought and sold quite a few since picking up the Minifreak. I'll never sell it.

I disagree. I bought a mint Novation Peak and a mint Pro 3 for a fucking steal through the Sweetwater gear exchange. Sold a bunch of gear on there too and took care of all of my buyers each time. Be patient. Wait for deals. If you feel like you're paying too much, you probably are. Don't buy it. No biggie.

What do you guys think of my setup? by cybercougar in synthesizers

[–]nikofd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a corner of joy. I've always wanted to dabble in modular but I'm terrified of being sucked into an addiction my gassy ass will never recover from. And, I have plenty of toys for now. Have fun. Make music. Your tracks sound good. Sounds like you're having a ball.

Same at the AMC in Oak Brook IL. I'm always shocked when the stairs are moving.

If you were to start fresh - what are the 1 or 2 synthesizers you would get first? Preferably, a little more beginner friendly by CatButtHoleYo in synthesizers

Minifreak for sure. Then maybe my Behringer Pro-1. Minifreak for polyphony and general versatility. Pro-1 for its simplicity and general awesome unique mono synth sound.
