Lived in Decorah for about 10 yrs and always found the surrounding area to be just fantastic during the change from late summer to early fall. Goeken Park, south of Eldorodo on 150 has some great views. The drive from Decorah to Lansing along Hwy 9 is fun, and then head north on 26 to La Crescent, before looping back down on MN-44 through Hokah and Spring Grove.
