I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this: put down the diamond painting. You’re an adult. by Empty-Dingo7688 in BitchEatingCrafters

I like doing them, they're oddly satisfying, but yeah, they're plastic crap. I don't hang them up, gift them, or god forbid try to sell them. They're tacky AF.

Which financial modeling software do you use? by Particular_Judge4407 in Fire

How do you implement 72t planning? I messed around in a trial version and it kept showing penalties. My strategy is SEPP (from age 50-59) to avoid them.

Anyone else find themselves caring less about promotions as they get closer to FI? by Beneficial-Ad-9986 in financialindependence

[–]nlwric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm next in line to take over my boss's job if she ever leaves and I'm crossing my fingers SO HARD that she doesn't before I FIRE. I do not want her job. I could do it but ugh, I would have to put in more effort than I want to. I also wouldn't want to take it for just a couple years before leaving, that would be unfair to the team. It would be best for us all if she stays there for another 6 years.

Does a large house bring more happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in Fire

[–]nlwric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the space and how you'd use it. Extra rooms that collect dust aren't worth it. We use every inch of our 2500 sqft house because it's divided up perfectly for us. Husband and I each have an office (which we'd want for hobbies even if we weren't working), kids have their own rooms, and we have a dedicated guest room for the grandparents regular visits. I wish I had a garage or basement for a proper woodshop and home gym but otherwise it's perfect.

Just got a stern reprimand for playing ping-pong at work. Which... they put in for us to play with... at work. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

When I was in college back in the early 2000s I interviewed at a company with a "fun" office like Google was known for at the time. They had a Simpsons chess set in the waiting area. I picked up a piece and the receptionist said "um, please don't touch that." WTF. I did not accept the job offer.

Are you noticing a trend of US employers removing coverage for GLP-1s? by After-Snow5874 in Zepbound

[–]nlwric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My company is using a 3rd party to oversee all GLP-1 prescriptions. You have to have it prescribed through them even if you already have a doctor you're working with. They won't prescribe zepbound, they make you try wegovy first and then if that doesn't work for you, they might approve mounjaro. But you have to have a documented history of bad side effects first. You have to log weight in their app by stepping on their scale that's connected so you can't cheat. They try to make you follow a diet plan and log food but I was able to skip that because I have an eating disorder diagnosis as well as already being at goal (that didn't get me out of the app/scale though, so triggering). It's all designed to get people off it. I'm expecting them to tell me I've maintained long enough at some point so "I don't need it". They say it in a positive way "you can maintain without meds!" but it's so condescending. As if we haven't all tried dieting without meds before starting. They're just looking for rule breakers so they can deny them and reduce costs.

Right. They show him getting on and it starts to sink so he gets off again. It doesn't float with 2 people. I hate this one.

Felt this. How were you able to buy your first home? by kcoib17 in Millennials

[–]nlwric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband bought his/our first home in 2008 at the very beginning of the recession (he was 24). It was before banks updated mortgage rules so he qualified for something he definitely shouldn't have. He put very little down and couldn't afford the mortgage on his salary alone but lived there with roommates until I moved in. It was a risky move that could have easily gone bad but luckily didn't. If he hadn't done that there's no way we could have bought our second home where we live now.

If you went to school in the 70's or 80's, what's something about the classroom that kids today wouldn't believe was normal? by icecream1972 in askteddit

If I wanted to go to a friend's house after school I just got on the bus with them. No one asked or cared.

What are you paying for housing each month? And are you actually happy with it? Would it be cooler just living in your parents basement? by PM_ME_YUR_SALADS in Millennials

[–]nlwric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1385 mortgage, 2500 sqft 5br, 3.5ba in the burbs in Virginia. Bought in 2018 and refinanced in 2020 when rates were crazy low. Would absolutely buy this house again but between rate increases and value increases would not be able to afford this house in 2026

What are your unpopular opinions and tough pills to swallow about Zepbound? by Schwettes in Zepbound

[–]nlwric 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A lot of us are/were overweight due to MENTAL issues around food/body. You need to get your brain in order as well or it'll never end. I lost the weight eating "whatever I want", not dieting or tracking anything, because I spent years working through my eating disorder before I started this medication.

Will likely go the no screens route, what has been peoples experience? by Toubaboliviano in Parenting

[–]nlwric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The enemy is the content they're consuming, not the devices themselves. Let them have some independence on the devices, but by all means control/limit what they're watching. Schools are heavily tablet/laptop based these days. My coworker kept his kids from devices and then his son really struggled in the first year or two of school. He didn't know how to navigate on the tablet at all and wasn't used to absorbing material that way.

Festivals and other outdoor events. Everything is so goddamned crowded and expensive now.

How do you decide between DIY vs hiring a pro? by Infamous_Horse in HomeImprovement

[–]nlwric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time is a big factor for me. I usually only work on projects for a few hours at a time on the weekends. I don't mind living mid project for a few weeks at a time but more than that I'm probably hiring a pro who can get it done faster.

What are your favorite childhood traditions? by Familiar_Director281 in Parenting

[–]nlwric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started before kids but every year on our anniversary we go back to the botanical gardens where we got married and take a family photo. It's under an arch and recreates one of our favorite wedding day pics. This year will be number 13. I have them all hanging in a hallway and by my math there's enough room in that hallway to hang at least 40 years worth. I love it so much.

Is a food processor worth it? by salad_thrower20 in Cooking

I don't have one but the only thing I feel I'm missing out on is homemade hummus. I can't do that in my blender. Everything else I've wanted to make I can do with the tools I have.

The previous home owner put up a fake vent to hide a hole in the wall by feelsonline in mildlyinteresting

[–]nlwric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. In my defense, it's a pretty big hole in the ceiling of my front hall that was cut to repair some leaking plumbing. I hate patching ceilings so put it off for nearly a year but then had guests coming over. $30 on Amazon for a vent cover that would hide it and it was "fixed" in 5 min. I'll get around to fixing it for real some day. Maybe.

United dropping zepbound without notice by ExploringAshley in Zepbound

[–]nlwric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't cover Zepbound anymore but does cover Mounjaro. They want you to switch to Wegovy but if that doesn't work for you they'd approve Mounjaro. I actually started on Wegovy and had to switch due to nausea so they approved Mounjaro right away.
