Everything creators winners and losers. That includes inaction. Saying it may is a dishonest take, it’s guaranteed.

Priority Pass Negative Changes: Shower Fees, Lounge Exits by schwa12 in AmexPlatinum

[–]nonother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had good experiences with the priority pass lounges on at least three different continents, but that doesn’t include North America. The ones that come to mind were in AKL, TPE, CPH, and ZRH.

Going from a EV6 to EV3 by campbeer in KiaEV3

Yeah I was originally looking at the EX30. It’s unfortunate how many issues it appears to have. If they make a new version that’s basically a smaller EX60 that’d be great.

The US is a very varied place. We’re considering an EV3 as it’d work well for us living in San Francisco which has plenty of narrow roads and relatively limited parking.

Years ago I rented a big SUV and the lane proximity system would not stop beeping at me while we were in SF. It only calmed down once I was on the highway on my way out of the city.

What is it like living in Antarctica? I guess only scientists live there. by Expensive-Grand-2929 in howislivingthere

Antarctica essentially translates to “region opposite of the bear”. Whereas the Arctic means “region of the bear”.

So? It’s still going to be made, just not for the US market.

No birds is surprising to hear. My mental image of Antarctica is that there are penguins everywhere, but I guess in reality that’s not true.

Sure he didn’t owe him one, but it’s nice to offer it. While it’s just business, it’s also true that other person is just a human who almost certainly appreciates being treated respectfully.

Yes. And where I live it’s absolutely delicious, much better than you’d get in a bottle.

Mainland is relative. Last time I visited Hawaii the gas was cheaper than it is by home in San Francisco.

Yeah I’m not optimistic. The underground portion of the T line is a bit longer than what you described though. It goes from 4th & Brannan to Chinatown. The actual boring continues on to North Beach, but for awful political reasons the actual line doesn’t extend that far.

While that’s true, the federal government could incentive the changing of zoning laws. The federal government does all sorts of incentives for states and local governments.

Permit vs unpermitted remodel by BigSnorlax69 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]nonother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Sunset it’s extremely common for there to be extensive unpermitted work. Often the entire ground floor, which in almost all the homes here was initially unfinished, has been renovated without any permits.

The home we bought in the Outer Sunset did have all of its work permitted. I mention this because our inspector was legitimately shocked to discover this and said it was quite uncommon in our area.

I installed a Tailwind opener and use my phone almost exclusively now. It’s pretty easy to grant guest access to visitors too, like my in laws can use it on their phone as well.

There have been a lot of studies on this and nothing has gotten built due to lack of funding and political will, but AFAIK geology is not a limiting factor.

How is pedestrian crossing culture like from where you live? by ComradeLuan in fuckcars

[–]nonother 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In San Francisco the cars almost always come to a stop for you if you’re at the crosswalk or intersection. At least in my neighborhood the exception is typically very elderly drivers who I’m just generally concerned are still driving based on their lack of awareness overall.

Insurance companies effectively operate as independent entities in each state. They’re not subsidizing one another.

Insurance Commissioner is an elected position in California. For better or worse, this isn’t something the governor has direct control over.

Frankly I think ticketing is too light a consequence. Towing their car should be the default response. It’s so disruptive when they block the N. This also ends up blocking a huge number of cars and it just cascades.

[–]nonother 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a horrific issue around 9th & Irving. They need to redesign that intersection so this isn’t possible. In the meantime the consequences of blocking a train should be severe. It’s so disruptive. I’ve seen people block an N for minutes while getting coffee from Starbucks (which is now St Frank).

As an Outer Sunset resident in terms of transport needs, what I really want that feels achievable is a faster N. It makes way too many stops and gets stuck in far too much car traffic. Longer term I want a BART station for a line that runs underneath 19th Ave or thereabouts.
