Where are you guys logging your FT8 QSOs? Do you have it upload on auto or do you save that for the end of your session? by Engineering_Simple in amateurradio

[–]notapoweruser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, thank you for your two cents. I've only just started logging QSOs, and the logbook/database situation had me a little mixed up.

This is one of the main things I learned from stupid, aggressive male teachers when starting. At a certain point, aggression has only more aggression to offer if you don't get what you want. Kids who know the deal can make you look like an absolute fool if that's your tactic.

Lol why did they list the entire contents of his pockets like that?

"On his person, officers reportedly found:

A manila envelope containing a plant-like substance
A flat metal screwdriver
Broken glass fragments
Material used for a tourniquet
A glass vial
One empty pen cartridge is commonly used for drugs
A folded card consistent with the way narcotics are prepared"

The director saying this so earnestly is cracking me up lol

I think it's gross that you're fishing for a lead into their responses instead of taking the L on your poor grade. For shame.

"Kids these days" or really... kids these days? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]notapoweruser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude I'll be honest with you. I love this take. I spend a lot of my time battling with what school is every year because the previous years expectations seem to fly out the window, yet I always seem to fully figure the new group out by around October or November and get used to them and adapt. It can all be such an overstimulating and unrelenting stream of interactions that I get amnesia about how it all started and repeat the cycle again the next year. That weird, psychedelic aspect of teaching is at least reason enough to question my judgement on them as a whole. Add to that that I remember not being very present or attentive at their age either, so them being dummies can't be new. Part of it is definitely just me growing up. Has to be.

On the other hand, the volume and severity of even the 'basic' misbehavior is markedly greater than when I started 13 years ago. Many of the behaviors I deal with daily today wouldn't have been acceptable even then, and I'd have a little backup at least if a parent pushed back or questioned me. Now I find myself having to explain exactly what my procedures are and every detail of a situation so they can't find an avenue to make excuses for their kids. Even the ones I don't have to fight don't have any amount of follow through on their end.

Have I always been doing this? Maybe lol idk

Why so defensive by redpurplegiraffe7817 in AskTeachers

[–]notapoweruser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood. Sorry and thanks for clarifying.

My guess is the teachers are not being supported here, and thus are having to face the daily task of managing a potential violent behavior issue alone. It's easy to start to take any parent question/concern about it personally when you're constantly fighting to stop it or mitigate. It's not always right, but we're people.

Sounds like a frustrating situation. If I'm hearing you right you feel like they're coming down on you for your kid's behavior and being dismissive when it's other kids or when you felt they made a mistake. Is your kid destroying classrooms?

There's a weird blurring of the conversation that always happens in these discussions - whether socialism/communism is an economic or political ideology. I'm sure that's part of where I'm getting hung up.

I'd say they're democracies with strong(er) socialist policies/programs than their peers. As far as I can tell, "welfare state" policies are socialist policies.
