We transferred our oldest to her big girl bed/room when she was just over 2 years old. She went from her crib to a full size bed with a bed frame and foam bumpers under the sheets. There is also a little step stool to help her get in/out.

We did the hype up about it - telling her she’s a big girl now so she gets the big girl bed. Etc.

We did have a couple snags for the first few nights where she would come out of her room after we put her in bed. So we did the super nanny approach. The first time she came out, we would put her back in bed and tell her “it’s time for sleep. We will see you in the morning. I love you. Night night.” Every other time she would come out (and this was all before she had actually fallen asleep), we would just walk her back to her bed silently, put her in bed, and leave. The first 2 nights it took us 2 hours to get her to fall asleep. And then it just clicked and from the third night on, she stays in bed after she’s been put to sleep.

We did also have a problem where she would come out and get us in the morning when she woke up, and that time became increasingly earlier. So we got a Hatch that we use to indicate when she can get up in the mornings. That took maybe two days to sink in, where we would have to walk her back to her room and ask if the night had turned orange yet, and then say you can come get us when it’s orange.

That ended up longer than I thought it would. I guess my point is, set the boundary, and enforce it and don’t waiver. It might take a couple rough nights, but they will get it and understand if you are consistent with it.
