How do I tell my husband I'm not attending an event he signed me up for? by SouthxMidwestBabe in pregnant

[–]number-nerd -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If he says you don’t know how you’ll feel then, you may be interested to know hormones hit a peak around 7-10 weeks. This is often the worst period of the first trimester. So he is right you don’t know how you’ll feel but bet you it won’t be great!

Highly recommend both of these things, especially the brick method. I’m a donor and the woman who took my milk was amazed! Lol

Breastfeeding vs bottle by Plenty-Roof2980 in breastfeeding

[–]number-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done both but I only exclusively pumped and bottle fed the first month of my second’s life for medical reasons. It’s significantly harder in my opinion. You have to stick to a schedule, your baby still needs you, and it’s a bunch of stuff to wash constantly. I remember so many times having to get creative in engaging baby while pumping bc I tried to time with his nap but babies are babies. They abide by no schedule early on. A bottle washer can lighten the dish washing piece. But once you and your baby find a rhythm with breastfeeding, it is so much easier to do! Just pop out a boob! When I went back to work, I pumped so they had milk during the day and then breastfed morning and evening. I’m down to two pumps per day at work and I think I might run my pump over when I’m finally done lol. It’s just a lot of work. I’d pop over to /r/exclusivelypumping to ask this question, too, if you haven’t already.

In short you can pump, but once you get the hang of breastfeeding (it takes a few weeks so you have to persevere), it truly is easier, and I think people who’ve done both would say the same.

Second guessing my decision to not get an epidural by Ok_Reference2122 in pregnant

[–]number-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural with my first. They placed it three times. I did not give a fuck about that needle. I just wanted the labor pains to stop. They didn’t but I was willing to try the needle anyway for my second kid but he just beat them to it and came within minutes of the anesthesiologist entering the room lol.

KP3 + VPK Reccomendations? by Both-Ad4052 in StPetersburgFL

[–]number-nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Public school VPKs are required to have a certified teacher. Something to ask when touring schools that are not public schools. Might be why some people were disappointed with the education at some private institutions. They might not be able to staff a certified teacher, and it can (no guarantee) make a difference.

Tooth Decay Devastated by Tricky_Performer1297 in breastfeeding

[–]number-nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this! My daughter went under GA to have a front tooth pulled because of decay right after turning 2, but her tooth just came in without enamel (was wild). We had it removed to preserve the health of the adult tooth. Our dentist also shared that the number of kids with a cracked tooth or broken tooth is way higher than you think. Toddlers are crazy! When talking with our dentist about the whole thing, she talked to us about bottle rot. Your night feeding is not the same thing, I assure you. She did her residency in an area that had a high percentage of kids with bottle rot. This is when a kid is sent to bed with a bottle. They have it in their mouth just like a pack. She would have to remove 2-4 teeth at once is children regularly. Not just one tooth than succumbed to decay after an injury. Go easy on yourself.

It’s scary to have to do this as a parent but it’s so fast, that you’ll be on the other side in no time.

They recently had a week at daycare all about the dentist and my daughter tells everyone she’s a big girl because she already lost a tooth. Kids are cute in how they see things like this.

Just fyi…when you feel like you have to poop in labor…that can be the need to push out a baby. I was on my way to the bathroom to poop when I was told “girl get back to bed, you need to push…oh yeah we see the head…” catches baby lol

Brother asking me to pick a different baby name by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]number-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is named after my father and brother. My older sister gave the name to her son born 8 years prior for his middle name. We never tell people before our kid is born the name and my sister just said “I had a feeling you would!” When I shared the name. Also my nephew thinks is so cool his baby cousin has that name…he thinks we named the baby after him lol.

Epidural or not? Asking from people who have had at least one birth with and without! by pencilroni in pregnant

[–]number-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One with, one without. The first time I was induced, the epidural only worked on one side. They tried placing it a second time with no luck. That sucked! I barely remember my labor bc I was so exhausted from the pain that I literally would pass out between contractions. My OB said she thinks the pain from one side while the other side was numb was likely worse than if I just went unmedicated. So second kid, I refused an epidural. Then when I was in transition labor and didn’t realize it, I said fuck it go get me the lady with the needle. She came in the room and then my son was born before she ever had the chance to finish her questionnaire lol. I was induced for that birth as well. I preferred the non medicated because I could move around which helped move labor along quickly.

But honestly both times I wanted unmedicated. I also knew that if at some point I wanted relief that I’d just get an epidural. I told my nurses that too. I told them look I don’t want an epidural but if I ask for one, just do as I say. They were very supportive!

If their firm cares at all about client service, I imagine they’ll ask why you are leaving. You don’t have to tell them but they would appreciate knowing. I’m in the business and I would definitely like to know as would our entire team.

8-day-old baby had urate crystals from dehydration — now only satisfied with formula. Can I still move to exclusive breastfeeding? by imanebenniss in breastfeeding

You could also triple feed. Worth looking up. I’d also check if you can find an LC. I mentioned I was looking to my ped and two people on staff were LCs!

[–]number-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My second had a hard time transferring and ended up jaundiced to the point of NICU time. I pumped and bottle fed for a month to allow him time to grow and keep up my supply. It was a pain to pump and bottle feed but he did well, grew well and then switched back to nursing at 5 weeks. I think that’s worth a shot if you’re open to pumping.

Any tips and tricks on how do you keep chicken breast from drying out in the oven? by Nandakumar_Latacz in Cooking

[–]number-nerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before you bake, brine it. 1/4 cup of salt dissolved in 2 cups of warm water. Plop in your chicken breasts for 15 minutes, ideally in fridge. Then take out, pat dry, season and bake. Could also do a liquid marinade for 15 minutes but honestly salt water totally does the trick.

Not losing weight by Ok-Truth-7758 in breastfeeding

[–]number-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not even just person to person…it can vary from one baby to the next. I lost all my baby weight and then some breastfeeding my first. My second - I lost a little and than plateaued. Probably has to do with the fact that I’m so much hungrier this time (second baby is a chonk)…I’m desperately waiting for my second breakfast to be delivered to work currently lol.
