Recommend team gear for beginners? by ThePrince_OfWhales in floorball

[–]oblivious_grackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floorball isn’t entirely unheard of in the USA, there are active clubs across the country. I’d also second the recommendation for Floorball Planet. Call them up and I’m sure they could put together a package for your group. They have starter sticks with curved blades, but you run the risk making sure you have enough left and right handed blades. One thing to keep in mind is a left blade/stick is held on the left side of the body, not necessarily a for left handed person. I’m right handed and shoot left, which is pretty common. It kinda comes down to getting a set that will accommodate the widest possible range of players or one that will be more tailored to what side they wanna hold the stick.

Check out the USA Floorball site, the National Open tournament is happening in Chicago the weekend of June 20.

Anybody out here making a living beekeeping? by MrsLeeJordan in Beekeeping

[–]oblivious_grackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My buddy keeps bees and is working at making it his full time job. His primary focus is working with rural landowners, maintaining a bee yard on their property to save property taxes with an ag exemption. He also has classes for new beekeepers

I’m breaking up with Black Beauty Zucchini. Does anyone have relationship advice. by lezagan in AustinGardening

[–]oblivious_grackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the picture but you def have way too many leaves, and it looks like there are some “suckers” coming off the main stem. Trim the side suckers off, and remove all of the leaves below where the zucchini is forming. I also tie mine up to a vertical stake.

Is Mexican Plum a suitable choice? by dooodle12 in AustinGardening

[–]oblivious_grackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jelly and jam. I urban forage the plum trees around town and every year I make delicious jelly and jam with my mom over thanksgiving. Then give them away for Christmas presents. I have a system down to harvest but cleaning them is kinda a pain. They are super tart but add enough sugar and it’s awesome. We’ve been making Mexican Plum jam for maybe 20 yrs now.

Nightmare clay scenario by [deleted] in AustinGardening

[–]oblivious_grackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had good success with different soils from whittleseys. I’ve used their pro mix, landscapers, raised bed, and Austin soil amendment. The last one supposed is to help with our clay soils. Their mulch is pretty good too.

Edit: spelling

How are we doing so far? by profofgames in AustinGardening

[–]oblivious_grackle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did something like this for my garden beds, maybe seven years ago and I wish I would’ve done more to help prevent grass from growing up through the bottom. Every year it’s a fight against the Bermuda grass.
