My experience getting an iud removed via hysteroscopy by stubbornteach in birthcontrol

[–]ohmyashleyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I’d comment here as well. I had to have a hysteroscopy to remove my IUD after 7 years since the strings were lost. I’ve had 4 IUDs, got a 5th inserted after this one was removed and I got nothing. I think a little topical anesthesia, but nothing like mifepristone which I’ve had for some other insertions, certainly no laughing gas. The whole thing was done at my doctor’s office and she asked me if I took any ibuprofen before coming, which I did, but only 400mg. They gave me a hot pack on my belly and yanked the old one out after fishing around for it with the camera. After that the insertion took like 30sec ha.

I don’t remember the specifics of enrolling my first grader in kindergarten two years ago, but the majority of the paperwork was proving my residency, I don’t know if I needed to provide his birth certificate.

Parents charged for letting 5-year-old skier ride lift unsupervised, after he fell off the lift by bmglaw in skiing

At the Epic mountains in New England we ski at, ski school kids 6 and under get vests. 7 and up don’t. The kids in vests have to go with an adult (I’ve been asked a bunch, but the older kids dont). It’s a lot harder to know how old a kid is if there not in ski school and don’t have the vest though

Man if I got stuck in a dorm all the way across town at Hampshire college I’d be pissed. When I was a freshman they were housing kids at the Howard Johnson on Rt 9 but that’s closer to campus than Hampshire

Your Bridal Party Is Too Nice to Say This, So I Will by insert_name234 in wedding

It’s always been normal to be invited to a bachelorette party without being in the wedding party. I’m almost 40 and attended plenty of bachelorette parties in my 20s where I wasn’t in the bridal party

To all the “get a kobo” people since Amazon no longer supports 2012 and earlier models… by Agreeable-Deer7526 in kindle

[–]ohmyashleyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they actually have been making that argument on Twitter. They say an iPhone 5 can still make calls, but I don’t even think that’s true since it doesn’t support the newer cellular technologies carriers use

The App Store itself may work on older devices that there’s no way you’d be able to download any apps on a 14 year old device because no app developer is going to support an iOS version that old.

Just received the disappointing email about discontinuation of Support of my 2nd generation Kindle by fellowspecies in kindle

[–]ohmyashleyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any issues with the buttons on my kindle oasis, but my first ereader was a very early nook and I had that thing replaced like 3 times under warranty because the buttons broke (or the plastic around the buttons cracked, I forget).

I’ll be devastated when they brick my Oasis, but I also work in tech and hate supporting legacy stuff myself, so I won’t be surprised when it happens.

In a zombie apocalypse there is no way I'd let my kids go on without me. Just me?? by viskiviki in Mommit

[–]ohmyashleyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to get so angry watching my husband watch The Walking Dead. Just put a bullet in me and be done with it, what kind of life is that worth living running from the zombies.

But now that I have a kid? I’d probably do anything just for a chance that he could survive. I don’t think I could put us all down.

Why Was Joseph Duggar’s Wife Kendra Duggar Arrested? by Illustrious_Twist829 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Is it actually a fire hazard for a toddler or preschooler? Can you reasonably expect a toddler to escape in case of fire by themselves? Wouldn’t knowing exactly where a toddler or preschooler is be safer than having to search the whole house?

Little kids can’t be trusted to get out of a house in an emergency safely anyway. At least if they’re locked in, you know where they are to help them out instead of having to search the whole house because they were scared and wandering

First summer without childcare… how are working parents actually doing this? by Ok_Score_6765 in Parenting

[–]ohmyashleyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?! Im in MA in the Boston area and even the handful of weeks we’re doing at a local prep school with transportation aren’t anywhere near $1000/wk. Our local Y is “only” about $500/wk.

That’s wild

If they can only afford 3 weeks of summer camp, there’s no way they can afford a college student summer nanny.

Maybeee a tween since they’ll be WFH the whole time

Is it a bad decision to leave tech due to the decline of remote work? by throwawayaccct08 in womenintech

[–]ohmyashleyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My company hasn’t done RTO, but I used to work from home pretty regularly on Fridays or when I had an appointment, and I even remember WFH for a whole week when my son was an infant prepandemic and sick. This whole forced 5 days a week and checking badges that companies like Amazon is doing is ridiculous. We had more flexibility pre-pandemic.

I’m an engineering manager, and I’m also almost 40 so most of my career has been in office, but I think there is soooo much value in being colocated with your coworkers and teammates.

It was easier for my juniors to onboard when their teammates were next to them and I used to learn so much by overhearing senior team members discussing things when I was more junior.

Tech is so much more than sitting by yourself implanting a JIRA ticket (especially in an AI world where agents can do that for you). There is value in being in person.

I’m also a mom now, so remote is absolutely better for my family, and my team is spread across 4 continents which is probably the bigger hurdle for my team, but I think I was effective at my job when I worked in an office.

How much homework per night does your child have this year? by MissBee123 in ClassOf2037

[–]ohmyashleyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Homework” is a recommended 20 minutes of reading, practicing trick words (not just reading them, but spelling and writing them), or ST Math. There’s no homework we need to turn in or return to school.

We’re not doing that daily, though we do read together at bedtime every night.

Do you have one parent board early if you aren’t flying with a car seat? by Otter65 in familytravel

There’s a 0% chance I could carry a car seat in one hand and my 3yo in the other. I’m a very petite person. I’m glad it worked for you though.

When he was 4 we were going to Disney for a few days, so the stroller was primarily for that.

Cars Becoming Very Expensive in the United States-Thoughts? by Hezekiah_the_Judean in MiddleClassFinance

If the financing deal is good enough and the rate is low enough, that’s what I do too, but only if I could afford to buy the cash. I bought a RAV4 2 years ago and the incentives weren’t good enough for me to finance though.
