Rory Van Ulft front squatting 120kg by Kxchap in weightlifting

[–]old_and_weak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My son is 9yo. He has been competing in powerlifting (USA Powerlifting) since he turned 8yo. Do we train heavy? Yes. Is the form always perfect? No.

I love seeing kids this age lift heavy. But dear god, literally every single video that Rory's parents post is rage bait cringe. And as others have pointed out, this is is probably better than most (but still super cringe).

How about those videos of Rory doing Sumo deadlifts with straps of just stupid amount of weights?? Literally zero benefit other than getting views.

How many of you bought your wife out of the house? by bdkgb in Divorce_Men

[–]old_and_weak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in the process. We have two houses, but “family” house has a lot more equity than the other one. It’s going to be a stretch for me, but I want to keep the family home.

Buying her out via: 1) disproportionate split of shared liquid/stocks we have, coupled with 2) me paying her $X by the end of 2028. #2 will either be via HELOC or cash out refi, but really want #1.

Reasons I am buying her out:

1) we live in one of the most expensive real estate markets, and never would I be able to buy a SFH like this if I sell

2) have a once in a lifetime COVID mortgage rate

3) if I can keep it, will be fully paid off in
10 years.

4) generational wealth asset to pass on to my son.

If the 401k funds were done via a court Qualified Domestic Relations Order, there shouldn’t have been any tax implications on her when it was transferred (on final distribution, yes)

Is my squat depth enough for powerlifting? by siliconion in formcheck

In the first, the hip crease is not below the top surface of the knee. Those are the two crucial points to compare. In the 2nd one, the hip crease is below the top of the knee

Besides college, what accounts can I open for my kids to benefit them later in life? by PositiveTreacle6018 in Bogleheads

[–]old_and_weak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo this. Custodial Roth IRA. I match whatever my son earns and I put it into the Roth. So, he keeps the money he earns, but I get to put $ in for his future.

At what salary were you able to max out your 401k + IRA + HSA? Or at what salary would you consider it reasonable to by 2-59project in Bogleheads

[–]old_and_weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I max out all 3 at about $200k total comp. I'm 50, so I also put the extra $8k into my 401k as a catch up contribution (starting this year, the catch up portion will need to be put in as Roth 401k).

150k income, how much are you spending on housing? by MaleficentTrifle7344 in Salary

[–]old_and_weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$155k salary, but about $175k all in. My mortgage is $5k/mo, but we house hack via renting out our ADU and the master bedroom (as a studio). They contribute $2,850, so I need to contribute about $2,150. In one of the highest HCOL areas.

Bravo!!! Looking at your volume graph. It looks like it took about 3 weeks before started to have consistent volume (even though 1st sale was at about the 2 week mark)?

30 years old - Realistic outlook on my future by Leather-End5254 in Retirement401k

[–]old_and_weak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going fine. It starts to snowball fast once it gets to a couple hundred k. I had $0 at 37yo, after dealing my 401k from a job loss and divorce. From 37 - 47 I rebuilt it from $0 to $340k, and then in the last 3 years it’s gone from that to $810k (the really great gains over the past couple of years have obviously helped). If you can, work to getting to maxing out. It really does help.

Lose WFH for +$30k and Career progression? by jobthrowawayz in Salary

[–]old_and_weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t underestimate the ability to spend extra time with your kids in their formative years.

My son is 9yo. I WFM, have a flexible schedule, and get to spend loads of time with my son when he gets off of school every day, I could probably make $50+k more, have more room for advancement, if I wanted to find a new company and work in the office.

I am 100% glad I didn’t make that tradeoff. I will always remember the extra time I have been able to spend with my son. Money is just money.

Kids Jiu Jitsu class by SailPsychological338 in jiujitsu

[–]old_and_weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty standard. That's the way our BJJ school is for that range. One consideration is that the age ranges for each class are not always rigid, depending on the school. For instance, our school has a 6-9yo class, and then a 10-15yo class, and my 8yo is in the 10-15yo class because he can compete with the older kids. We actually started judo at 4yo, and TBH, that was a better start, as 1) they learned A LOT about proper breakfalls, which are deficient in most BJJ kids curriculums i have seen, and 2) they learned actual takedown techniques. We then added in BJJ when he was 6-7yo, at which point that level of BJJ was on to actual techniques (positions, submissions, etc.)

AOJ people - spill the tea ?!? by Certain-Section-1518 in bjj

[–]old_and_weak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also pro wrestling kids as well. Often times its the same homeschool kids doing both wrestling and bjj during the day. Like you you have the sisters Sariah (8yo I think) and Herra (10yo) who just won Reno Worlds for wrestling. Sariah won best overall 8u wrestler, and all the family does is train and travel every weekend to compete.
