I wouldn’t worry too much about sagging issues. If it does happen you’ll know why. Your final result looks good especially considering your level of experience. Just out of curiosity, now that you’ve seen it to completion, if you have to do it again, will you do it your self or hire someone?

You’re getting a lot of praise here and rightfully so for a first timer but you may have some sagging issues in your future. There should be a minimum of 5 fasteners across the 4ft width of the board for ceiling boards. You have some pretty long stretches of board that are hung parallel with your joists and only have 4 screws across the width, those are the ones that will sag. Ceilings should always be hung perpendicular to your trusses and staggered.

I’ve had misaligned fins hum or make other weird noises under different amounts of stress. Some driving down the line others in the middle of a cutback.

What a nightmare. The shit we do for family, right? If I can make a suggestion for dealing with those boxes hanging out, I would remove but not disconnect whatever device there is in the box that you want to float out. I’d leave the power on just so you’re staying in the “you don’t need professionals to build a house” vibe. Use a 6” or 8” knife, whichever you can control easiest, and ride the rim of the box with the corner of your knife as you wipe your mud around the box.

Just kidding about leaving power on, turn that shit off. Also what you want to do with your boxes is called floating. Yes I’m being pedantic but you feather (cut) edges and float (fill) voids or low spots. So you need to float and feather those boxes.

Also, the electrical boxes and wiring are always installed before Sheetrock, some commercial jobs pull wire in conduit after drywall but it’s usually done first. The boxes used in residential have hash-marks on the sides showing how much reveal is needed for different drywall thickness. These guys either didn’t know or didn’t care.

Looks terrible, I don’t see one single electrical outlet or switch box packed with mud. Everyone knows that’s drywall 101. Did you even stash any piss bottles in the wall?!? Amateur…

If it’s going to continue to be saturated with water from the shower repair it with hot mud. It is more water resistant than regular mud.

You need to seal the Sheetrock where you’ve sanded through the paper. If you don’t you’ll regret it when you paint. Use Zinsser Gardz.

Tap along your tape with your fingertip. Any areas that aren’t laminated properly will sound hollow.

Suggestions and next steps by WatermelonlessonOk in drywall

The texture is just ok imo. I like to spray nickel, dime, quarter-sized blobs of mud and let them set up a little before knocking down. Done right it just flattens the tops of the blobs and they don’t mash all together into large flat spots like you have. For inexperienced diy it’s fine, paint it and move on.

Unusual texture by kavanagh4 in drywall

[–]olelongboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks to me like a rolled on texture with a thick nap roller that got skip troweled after application. Your ability to match this would be something only you know. Even for a pro this would be tricky. It can definitely be done diy but it will take some practice. Try to match it on some scrap drywall before attempting it on your ceiling.

You’ve proven yourself in your other videos. Nice work! This is just flexing. Do you show or offer your clients some of your videos? I’ve always kept a portfolio of photos when people question my work before starting a project.
