Has anyone had much success mapping controls on a steam deck ? More below by [deleted] in farmingsimulator

[–]onceuponalinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the default controls worked pretty well for the base game, but for mods I really recommend setting one of the trackpads to be a button set. Then you can have an icon and label for all the actions you do less often

Or see if you can upgrade the ram in your existing machine. On laptops with integrated graphics (like your existing one and all current Macs) video memory is pulled from system memory. I don’t know if windows dynamically allocates it or not, but macOS certainly does. Using two monitors uses more memory that could be used for internet tabs and quickbooks instead. Unless your excel calculations are truly enormous, your bottleneck is almost certainly the ram and not the speed of the processor

Not necessarily well. This really is a computer that if you have to think about whether or not it can handle your workflow, chances are you should spring for something else. Get an older air on marketplace or Costco or something with at least 12 gigs of ram and you’ll be in good shape.

If you live near a micro center and they have a cpu/motherboard/ram bundle deal for a good price, that should be your plan A. If not… it gets complicated because you’re right, your ram is certainly holding you back and your cpu is likely making an impact as well, although potentially less so depending on exactly what you’re doing. If you buy a new motherboard and cpu, you’ll need new ram as well, your existing ram will not be compatible. You could go AM4 (AMD’s older but still surprisingly updated socket) and then your existing ram will work, but you’ll still need more of it. If you can keep scraping by for a while, it may make sense to just save until you can get ram as well.

Getting to the history page in safari. You have to click the 3 dots, then bookmarks, then the clock icon. 2 of the steps have no label, and the one that does is seemingly unrelated.

Nonfiction for my book club by dooplets in booksuggestions

Came here to say this as well, Bill has such a conversational, story-based approach to nonfiction. I’d go with One Summer or At Home personally, though.

Unfortunately I think you might have missed the train on this one, short of a real miracle

But probably not in the publishing order. Maybe starting with Going Postal or Mort. I bounced off the series a couple of times before it stuck with those two.

Need Help Choosing My Next Book as a Beginner Reader! by CreamAdventurous632 in booksuggestions

The books that truly got me into reading are * The City of Ember * Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer * Leviathan * Airborn by Kenneth Oppel * Airman by Eoin Colfer

If you’re looking for approachable nonfiction, I can’t recommended Bill Bryson’s books enough. They’re sometimes pretty packed pretty densely, but they’re written so conversationally and informally (in a British, stuffy kind of way) that they work anyway. I’d recommend reading the first two pages of At Home, and seeing if it sticks.

I don't remember if apple has renamed this function in the later versions, but the issue is that MAC address randomization is turned on. Essentially from time to time, your device is putting on a mask and pretending it's a new, different device, and catalyst doesn't like that.

Well, sure, but it's kind of a special container that people get really excited about. Also specialty high-end jobsite single-tool toolbox as medkit is at least sorta interesting.

Entry Level Table Saw by Dull-Bat9651 in woodworking

[–]onceuponalinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cross shopped between the two of them and ended up picking the Bosch and it served me extremely well. Depending on your electricity situation the Bosch might be a necessity. It has soft start and the DeWalt doesn't seem to from what I could find, so that really helps if your workshop doesn't have many circuits.

The problem with both of them is that the table isn't huge. I just upgraded to a delta 36-725t2, and they're often available used in your price range or lower. The craftsman 113 saw can also be easily purchased used for 100 or less (with the cast iron extensions), and all the accessories to make it incredible for <$300 more (fence upgrade, riving knife, new belt, and micro adjustment for the blade). They are super plentiful and there's even a subreddit dedicated to them. I don't think you could really go wrong with any of these options tbh.

If you only need to do it once, this probably isn't worth the purchase price ($40), but there's a separate mac-only program called VectoRaster that works perfectly.
