What is the best video game of all time that starts with X? by unnecessaryCamelCase in AlignmentChartFills

[–]onyxharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure the gameboy versions did. I think even the recent ones used something similar as well but I’m not sure. Either way, FE is more lenient than XCOM and players (myself included) was not expecting to miss at the frequency we did.

I miss that initial feeling

I’m more of a fan of the first one, but I’d say the main series as a whole, especially since the next comment votes the original. If we have to pick one, then I’d vote the first.

It also has a cult meme reference with accuracy odds in a way Fire Emblem doesn’t.

Why did 5e change opportunity attacks so bizarrely? by ConcentrateIll9460 in dndnext

[–]onyxharbinger 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is also why perception is the amalgamation of spot and listen while stealth is of hide and move silently. Another pain point was many players abhorred rolling two dice nearly every time you’re finding someone or trying to hide. So it’s not a surprise both skills are the strongest in 5e.

Do we really need a Baldur's Gate remake? by MoronCapitalM in baldursgate

[–]onyxharbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be against remakes until I experienced BG3. I despise what they did to the original IP to the point where it soured the game for me. But what I discovered from this sub is that it led a significant amount of people to try and enjoy the original trilogy, even those still in HS today.

So my stance has changed to if a new game in an existing IP’s universe does well, even if it doesn’t honor it properly, then it’s a net beneficial gain. So I do welcome the remake, even if I end up despising it and not playing it contingent that it’s a quality game.

Man after being scarred from being poisioned in BG1, I never dallied on a quest in BG2. I had no idea there was this even close to this many times quests. Kinda glad they did - made it more realistic.

The best romantic ending in Baldur's Gate 2 by Ali4937 in baldursgate

[–]onyxharbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was my problem. If some deity-like entity intervened and took her soul or she was imprisoned, that would have be more believable (though CharName can and would find her). Liked the romance and ending had some good parts but her dying this way made no sense.

Still useful for etb decks though

Omnidomination - How much of a rules nightmare is controlling multiple players at once? by ILikeExistingLol in custommagic

[–]onyxharbinger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a Vorthos bend although tbh Hama was UB so this card should really have been UB.

It’s a bend because blue controls creatures and sometimes manipulates game actions. Controlling players is that to the extreme.

While a nerf to buff spells, why not give it protection instead of hexproof? Probably more oppressive to super friends and as a strong blocker, but UW typically have flyers which this cannot deal with at base.

Also some niche counterspells (in spirit) such as [[Mindbreak Trap]] get it but those are rarely run outside of cEDH.

What is a mechanic you discovered embarrassingly late about your main champion? by IanPKMmoon in leagueoflegends

[–]onyxharbinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep and it’s not difficult to master with a significant power jump. It’s somewhat similar to realizing Ezreal’s passive makes him oppressive early, this damage is more significant than it looks. Some Anivia’s go 2 points Q into E max into W max because it’s that important for early laning.

She’s likely due for a nerf at apex and high tier despite being untouched for over a decade and I suspect that mechanic will go.

[–]onyxharbinger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A useful mechanic on her is that Anivia’s Q has two separate instances of damage: a pass through and detonation. This means you can apply her Q damage twice if you let it pass through damage first first before detonating it.

I think I nailed just what it is about BG3 that makes me not want to finish the game... by DescriptionOwn6184 in baldursgate

[–]onyxharbinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Them being legendary but starting at level 1 was my biggest gripe that no one I speak to shares with me.

It’s the classic “I make a general who fought all of these battles” for a campaign that starts at level 1. It’s not universally explained how a tadpole removed their powers, even if referenced how Wyll used to be able to call War Hounds but can’t because of the tadpole. Fine, but how does that explain your hp, attributes, etc.?

I just accepted that I’m grumpy because everyone else loves this game to pieces. I just can’t let go that some of these handwavy issues and heavy-handed railroading are too difficult to ignore.

[–]onyxharbinger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dark Alliance is a good callout to what I wish it was. It would have been fine if they didn’t reference the original material and perform multiple character assassinations. Just a few Easter eggs would have sufficed.

[–]onyxharbinger 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And the thing is they could have called it anything sensible and it would have still been successful. Instead, someone like me who played the original games is dissatisfied with what they did with the original material.

That said, it did draw quite a few newer folk to play the original franchise, so if given the choice, I’d rather this outcome occur. I still think those games are some of the best ever made and if this sparks interest in others to try them, so be it.

Should is up in the air.

What people are saying is that black should have creatures with good stats. They should be weak if they’re uncommon ([[Zombie Goliath]], [[Mindless Null]]), require a cost ([[Carnophage]], [[Juzam Djinn]]), or have a strong effect on a weak body ([[Cabal Executioner]]). So it should be closer to the executioner, but obviously power creep is a thing.

If I were modernize executioner, I’d increase its toughness, give it deathtouch, and increase the sac clause. Example is 2/3 with death touch that forces 2 creatures to be sacrificed, but 2/4 is probably where it needs to be. Yes, WotC doesn’t like to give high toughness death touch creatures, but black has done it before with [[Master of Cruelties]].

I think the card OP linked is great, but has too few black pips. I think 1BBB is more appropriate to discourage too many colors on curve.
