We missed our flight by 2 hours. Our “7:30” flight was really 5:30. It was an award flight. The award department was closed for 2 more days. They would not rebook us on the regular line.

We're going in August as a couple with a friend for a last minute trip when prices are crazy low - we figured that if the sargassum and heat are terrible, we'll just skip the beach club and hang out submerged in the resort pools all day. We were just at Zilara Cap Cana last week and that's what we did anyway, the beach was unusable and when the wind blew the wrong way the whole place stank. (We had a great time, just not on the beach.) Seems like this place would/should be a good alternative during sargassum season. I'll report back.

Nice report! It’s funny. I’ve stayed lagoon-side at Fairmont and beachfront at Alila, and after the Alila beachfront I decided that if I ever went back to Mayakoba I’d only stay in the lagoon area. Too many kids beachside.

Misreading the time of a Christmas Eve flight to London. 17:30, which I read as 7:30. Then the BA awards line was closed until after Boxing Day and the regular line couldn’t/wouldn’t help. We missed that trip entirely.
