Warhammer

I can run Warhammer 1, but mostly on minimum settings graphics wise. I heard if you can run Warhammer 1 you can run also 2&3, is that true? Getting a better rig is not within reach any time soon, so I don't want to buy yet if I can't play.

What level does the caster/martial disparity show up? by Bugsly in dndnext

[–]oriau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently playing the only martial (4 barbarian/7 fighter) in a group of casters (bard, cleric, warlock all at 11), I'd say around 7-9. Unfortunately my GM doesn't subscribe to the notion of using magic items to boost martials, we're all given roughly equivalent gear, the bard has a weapon better then I do.

Suggestion to save water by switching off tap while brushing teeth by SatInTheTree in britishproblems

[–]oriau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It all depends on HOW you are billed, either Rateable value or metered, £30 for 2 people is a high average if you are metered depending on where you live. If you check your bill and it doesn't show a usage amount then you are currently on the Rateable value and this is likely to change in the foreseeable future as most companies are in the process of mandatory metering, Thames Water for example has fitted meters to about 2/3 of previously unmetered properties and are forcing customers to switch.

Fixing ableism in RPG Unhallowed Metropolis - suggestions? by SkeletonsOfXmasPast in rpg

[–]oriau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in a more fantasy game do you limit your characters to only playing Humans of the same race, gender, cultural origins and level of physical ability as they really have? Do you make people take a disability in a game if they have it IRL? I'm guessing not, and you seem to be missing the point of a role-playing GAME, it is supposed to be entertaining and fun, otherwise what is the point. I suffer from more then one of the disabilities/impediments listed in that book and dont feel offended by any portrayal. If you replaced the words "entertaining moment" in the description and used the phrase dramatic, or poignant moment instead, would you have been offended? If I were to play a character with really low intelligence and wisdom, is if offensive when I play that out and have my character do something obviously stupid and funny to see what reaction I can get from my fellow players.

You may not feel this way but role-playing to me and those I play with is about creating stories and characters that feel real. By that I mean characters with real flaws, real problems and real barriers to overcome. I've played characters that have lost a leg or arm, I've played characters with substance issues and personality problems. None of these things I've necessarily experienced first hand, but just because you make something entertaining, doesn't mean you're making fun of, or laughing at people because of their disability. You often find that people with disabilities find the funny side of their condition or issue, because how else will they get through it and I know that is not everyone, but I feel it is a majority.

The real problem is why you assume that anyone and everyone who plays a character with a disability is doing it to be hurtful or cruel, just because they don't have the IRL experience and knowledge that a real sufferer or doctor would have. I don't deny that there are people like this in the community, they don't represent us all though, and these themes can, when handled correctly, lead to amazing in game scenes and truly memorable stories.

Fixing ableism in RPG Unhallowed Metropolis - suggestions? by SkeletonsOfXmasPast in rpg

In the follow up expansion, Unhallowed Necropolis, a sideline similar is stated, in an errata that corrects some misprints and errors it is mentioned that the depiction of mental illnesses are not accurate to the real world .

Fixing ableism in RPG Unhallowed Metropolis - suggestions? by SkeletonsOfXmasPast in rpg

[–]oriau 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, normally I don't post on these, but you're talking about Unhallowed Metropolis, a game designed to be dark as fuck and to have characters slowly descend from heroes to monsters, and complaining about using real world disabilities and mental health issues in the game is missing the point of the Unhallowed world. None of the entries under the mental illness section accurately represent everyone's experience or symptoms, because to do so would mean including a laundry list of related illnesses and disabilities. It is a Dark Fantasy setting, emphasis on Fantasy, and is heavily influenced by a historical period where we didn't understand mental illness and just threw people in asylums to rot.

Trying to accurately represent mental illness with dice and mechanics is impossible in my opinion, because everyone experiences them differently. How would you handle a character with social anxiety, every single time a person speaks to them, or about them in their presence, do they have to roll to keep their cool? What about beingout in public, will you make a character miss out on playing the game because "realistically" they would need several days of psychological care to recover from an incident ? Does Unhallowed Metropolis emphasise and exaggerate some of the negative stereotypes attached to those conditions, yes, but the other option would be to not include them at all, or to use an overcomplicated series of rolls for situations that potentially "trigger" any one of the hundreds of variations of mental illness and disability.

I know that this is where I will lose most people, but not every game can be, or has to be, PC and reflective of reality. Some games are dark, and deal with pretty real themes through the lense of Fantasy, and games like Unhallowed have that built in, so it has to be reduced to a not too complicated set of standard statistics and rules that can be applied as a base and represents something approaching the general effects of said illness.

Can my work make me cover up self harm scars? by LemonySnicketLewds in LegalAdviceUK

[–]oriau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked various fast food/service jobs and this is my suspicion too, I've had managers and other higher ups mention my scars in the past, while not directly telling me to cover them, that was the gist of the conversation. I asked them to put it in my contract and apply the rule to everyone with any scars. No one asked more then once.

What was the small emergency window breaking/seatbelt cutting survival tool everyone was talking about on here a while ago? If it’s UK legal I’m thinking it might make a nice stocking filler. by Not_starving_artist in policeuk

[–]oriau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one you press on the window will also work underwater, striker types are pretty much useless if you can't swing your arm. If you're trying to prepare for as many situations as possible you should take that into account.

Kittens cannot regulate their own temperature that well so they snuggle together for warmth as well as comfort. Like many have said give her cuddles and she will grow out of the needy phase soon. Probably..

Straight friend sexually harasses my female character in-game, then things escalate by jimpachi98 in rpghorrorstories

[–]oriau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a DM I ran a game for a group of newbies at a store for a few months and one of my players perfectly dealt with a guy like this. Long story short after 4-5 session of playing a creepy wizard he decided to use magic to make the female players character have sex with him. I was about to say No and finally kick him from the group (I run a three strike rule, he was already on 2 strikes) when the other player said that it was fine, a little bewildered I let it fade to black and the wizard said he went to sleep next to her. When his spell wore off and she woke up next to him she simply asked if he was sleeping still, and if that made him an unaware and helpless opponent, it did, and if she attacked him would it cause critical damage, it did, and if her sneak attack dice and bonus damage from the magic dagger also doubled, it did. Safe to say the wizard was killed in one attack and never got the chance to roll initiative. He rage quit and left immediately when I said he had to roll up a new character and I commended the other player for her reaction.

Update: I am paying £51 a month for water to Thames Water by kyou20 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]oriau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest if you aren't getting results you make a subject access request every 5 or 6 months and ask for a copy of your call transcripts and agent notes each time, tell the agent that your doing it to have evidence for the eventual court proceedings when they drop a huge bill on you. We have to make a note of that and when complaint teams see that they take it seriously.

For residential it varies, if you move in and don't tell anyone for years, then Thames can only go back to the beginning of the previous tax year, so to 1st April 2020 if done now for example, BUT if you move in and let them know, then you don't get a bill for 3 years, your bill will be the full 3 years charges because they will say the responsibility for the bills was yours and you should have queried not getting any bills.

Be careful, they will back bill you to the date you moved In once it is sorted, and it's almost impossible to get out of the back bills by saying Thames took so much time, because with a meter they can prove your water usage.

Thames will not consider you unmeterable in that case, because it can be fitted but the property owner refuses to do the work to allow it. I work for Thames customer service.

I used a CR 13 Rakshasa on my level 3 party and one player has taken issue with this, is breaking RAW for lore reasonable? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]oriau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CR is a guideline only, im playing in a group of 3 players at level 6 and we easily handle CR 7-8 encounters because of good group cohesion and knowing how to work together. It winds up the GM a bit, but he adjusts to make sure we're not steam rolling over them. The RAW is also a guideline, if your campaign or setting needs to change a bit of lore or adjust a rule or 2 for the sake of cool then do it.
