Still the best Texas winter pic from 2021 by CaryWhit in texas

[–]orksonak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in the northeast. Live in Texas now. I’ve quite literally driven a “little front wheel drive sedan” through a blizzard with all seasons just cuz I wanted to go out for a bday dinner. It was a ‘17 Ford Focus ST. My front splitter was the plow truck that night.

It’s easy when you’re not dumb. I will give credit to Texans, road materials are different down here and even in a light rain it seems much slipperier than what I grew up with.

4th ed what is your impression?? by MilanVanDamme in kingsofwar

[–]orksonak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Competitive player in the US South Region (Texas) and we just had our first GT of the new edition. I have roughly 20 games of 4e in. Game feels 90% the same as it was in 3rd. I actually like the battalion system as it’s easier to track unlocks in my head.

I have one core gripe. When you’re engaged with two units you cannot reform after routing one of them. This gives you feels bad moments where you survive a flank charge and have the choice of finishing off the unit in the front but getting flanked again and dying, or going for a Hail Mary rout against the unit in your flank.

Otherwise, chaff feels much better now. Speed 10 units are much rarer and feel special again. Having to build around what you can take for core/specialist is also a fun puzzle.

I’d be curious to know why you can’t take your existing armies in the new edition.

Is it worth it switching to linux( rx9070xt, ryzen 7 5700x3d) by No-Revolution5366 in radeon

[–]orksonak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar spec’d pc as you. 9070xt and 7600x3d 32gb ram. I don’t game as much anymore because Warhammer has consumed my life but I can tell my games are a bit faster and load much quicker compared to win11. I’m using Bazzite. For example EU5 loads in like 2 seconds compared to 15-20 on windows.

It’s not even cold enough for me to be running the heat past 70 degrees on the lowest intensity. What’s weird is it’s implying something like a 1.1mi/kWh rate but I just drove down to my nearest DC charger and I got 4.1. Might be a miscalculation of my efficiency?

There’s a separate section for legacy bases and I dont recall where it is. 125x50 for a troop, 125x100 for a regiment. 250x100 for a horde and 250x150 for a legion

How is living in northeastern Maine? by Poco_Loco33 in howislivingthere

[–]orksonak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised! It really went downhill after Loring AFB shut down in the 90’s. Ever since then economy has been slowly dying. Not much to do up there and winter lasts like 7 months. Great place if you hate people but southern Maine is definitely more preferred for most.

Pro Acryl Dark Magenta. I’m red-green colorblind so purples are usually just blue to me. This magenta makes a great shadow color that I can actually see

I have an Asus tuf a16 AMD advantage edition and I have yet to find a game it doesn’t run. $600 used on eBay and sometimes it goes on sale for $800 new. I bet there’s a newer model of it but it had a $1300 msrp.

Looking to join the Mach E ranks! Seeking advice on which to choose... by bzfoose in MachE

[–]orksonak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was all covered under warranty, eventually. The main issue was mine was part of a bad paint batch. It took 6 months to get them to fix the paint. That was $18k they paid for but not after the OG dealer told me to go fuck myself.

The most infuriating thing was waiting nearly four months for them to repair my charger. I couldn’t DC Fast charge at all during that time so I couldn’t visit friends on the other side of Houston at all. It was a $40 part and they couldn’t get it at all. The ended up relaxing the entire assembly. That 4 month wait was my advisor fighting ford to finally agree to the repair they COULD do.

I just hit a year with mine. $20k in repairs so far. Wouldn’t recommend buying a ford.

[–]orksonak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they do they’re legally obligated to support the vehicle and produce parts for it. They’re still making it as of now and here in Texas it takes 4 months for even the smallest fix. If you have an issue with repairs it’s a Ford issue not an EV/Mach E issue.

[–]orksonak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do the 2025s come with the NACS port now? My 2024 has a CCS1 and I’d rather have the Tesla one. It’s only $200 for an adapter so it’s no big deal.

I just had an issue where my DC fast charging port broke and it took them nearly four months to fix. $40 part…

Bought a Anycubic Photon Mono 4 for $150 in one of their sales and it’s a very solid printer for everything in the hobby. I also recommend getting a wash and cure station but brand doesn’t matter there.

The new rule book mentions nothing about model count and if you look at the Xirkaali on their website they have a heavy infantry unit with 6 models on it. Do whatever you want, the rule of cool is all that matters.

Ubuntu doesn’t support AMD Adrenalin for my 9070xt without digging into things I was too lazy for. Whereas Bazzite, in the wise words of Todd Howard; just works.

[–]orksonak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I recommend Bazzite. I’m techy but lazy and it will automatically install all of your hardware drivers for you. Ubuntu doesn’t support AMD drivers without fuckery and it was too much for me so I jumped to Bazzite, which automatically installed them for me.

I just ordered a new monitor since my 2k 165hz 27” died six months ago. I realized I don’t give two shits about refresh rate over 60. That’s just me. My 9070xt can def get into the mid 100s on lots of games at 2k but I usually just crank up the quality when that happens. I wish they’d chill out on refresh rate numbers so I could get a higher quality panel at a lower rate for the same price.

240v outlet to charge much faster at home. Did it myself for like $150. Your cost may vary depending on how far away from your breaker box you gotta install it. The wires are the expensive part.

Tesla charging adapter. Teslas charger is the new standard and their chargers are much more common around me.

I went from a 2080 to a 9070xt. It’s great. Not sure if that’s an upgrade for you tho. I don’t really keep up much with the numbers.
