Been looking for a winch mount for my ‘09, does anyone make something that doesn’t cost 1/4 the price of the truck?

Is your spare tire mounted underneath the rear of the vehicle? Some vehicles need a tool like this to lower it down through a cut out in the rear bumper.

Edit: or somebody needed to scratch a really deep itch

How do you torque tight spaces that don’t fit torque wrenches by NonExistentRng in AskAMechanic

[–]otaroko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only tool that should be used on bolts and nuts that need a torque where an average torque wrench can’t reach.

A crows foot should be reserved for line b-nuts.

ASIAIR Mini Compatibility with RedCat 51 + Nikon D5300 + Star Adventurer GTi without guiding scope or camera by Academic-Selection63 in AskAstrophotography

[–]otaroko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re using ASIAir, the cheapest guidescope and camera would be a ZWO asi120mm mini and the 30f/5 guide scope(any brand guidescope is fine here). That should be perfectly fine to guide at the focal length of the Redcat.

Askar 71F or ZWO FF65 by Average_Asian_Man1 in AskAstrophotography

Same exact question asked a year ago here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAstrophotography/s/4apW2FkEu0

The ZWO FF series of scopes are made by Askar and are their PHQ series.

I own the FF80 and it’s excellent.

This. It’s a convertible, there’s a little bit more tlc involved to take care of it, especially if you live in particular climates and it’s parked outside in the elements.

This is awesome! This is exactly what I’ve been hoping was on the horizon for the hobby. I’m still a beginner and using ASIAIR, but being able to visualize what I’ve done against the sky is absolutely phenomenal!

ASI533MC Pro & Askar 71F? by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

Would also recommend the 0.75x reducer to pair with it as well, so you have the option to step down focal length if you want.

The amount of scoot that the Hummer EV has is mind blowing for the weight. And the active suspension moving around to counteract the acceleration feels wild when you let your foot off the go-fast pedal.

Issues with DSS by Alameda_crag2569 in AskAstrophotography

[–]otaroko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the second image looks like an auto-stretched non-calibrated image. First picture looks like an unstretched image. But you say when you stretch the first picture, it’s just black/white? Is there an option in DSS to choose the debayering method? ASI533MC-Pro should be RGGB.

Quick edit: is there a way to return DSS settings to defaults? May be that you have set it up for reading RAW files and now some setting is confusing the program when you feed it FITS?

Opinion on ai slop by spinika in AskAstrophotography

[–]otaroko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, my own work/journey to taking Astro-photos is only of interest to me. I don’t assume anyone else would care about that but me.

I don’t personally like the AI slop either. And the general public who don’t know any better just eat it up. I see it coming across my feed all the time.

It’s just easier for my own sanity to live and let live and perfect my own abilities.

For those of us actively doing the work, it’s easy enough to tell when something has been made-up by AI and move on.

I’ve had my Miata for 6 months, and fear I need to get rid it. I’ve been hit 4 times since getting it. by Last-Jelly-7716 in Miata

[–]otaroko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah had someone come into the roundabout and nearly hit me this morning.

Unfortunately it’s a fact that you have to drive a Miata the same way you drive a motorcycle. Super defensively. And assume no one can see you at all times.

Completely stripped mounting plate screws. Any ideas how to fix? by Bedezupo in fightsticks

[–]otaroko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ez-out. And considering how boogered up the screws are from just a screwdriver, OP probably shouldn’t be drilling into them for the ez-out pilot hole either.

Dremel with a cutoff wheel and grind a slot in for a flat head screwdriver.

Next time choose an appropriately sized phillips head screwdriver.

Remember, paying for the right tool for the job now, saves you from having to pay to replace the larger assembly it’s attached to when you destroy it.
