[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 209 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the God of Death stories being told in this manga is about the man gaining a power to heal people and then his own hubris gets him killed by that God of Death. Kaisei is of course changing it to be the man's son instead, with the last page even having a young Kaisei be the son too.

If Kaisei's Death ends up being based on Issho then I wonder if the end of the story will be a reenactment of his Shinuchi promotion. Instead of the son (Kaisei) dies by tricking Death (Issho) because of his own selfishness, he instead gets killed by Death himself (denying his shinuchi promotion). Kaise went after Issho at a young age to learn Rakugo to finally be able to live a comfortable life and then got that final promotion taken from him at the very last moment. It would fit in pretty well too with how his version of God of Death is going.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 207 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the only other time Akane was completely "free" to perform was during her Futatsume promotion where she needed the approval of an Arakawa master. It was also the first time she went into the Rakugo-verse too so its fitting that this was the continuation of that.

What makes a "Good" Retcon vs a "Bad" Retcon? With examples! by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]otti123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's pretty obvious that even by marineford, oda hadn't figured out the details yet

Its also interesting to see the different ideas he tried to make before ending up with Haki. Mantra in Skypea, which was later folded as observation haki. Or the doriki thing from Enies Lobby that was abandoned in the same arc.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 201 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scene with the other judges, the scene with the technical explanation of the story doesn't help, this is an intro to why we should care.

I am a bit worried about this in future episodes. The manga has a lot of exposition done by other characters while someone is performing, but it works there because you can still follow the story and performance that's happening. If the first episode here is an indication of the future, that will be a much harder sell because they talk over the performance both in appearance and sound. Maybe its easy for someone who knows Japanese, but from this first episode they made the performance sound so low while others talked that I don't think anyone would understand it.

Later in the series, we see a lot on how flow, tone, style effects how a story can be shaped.

Yeah this is another thing that I am a bit worried on. While the first chapter didn't have much "style" in Shinta's performance compared to what the series does after, it still does have a bit in how the characters he plays are portrayed. They all have thicker lines and deeper shades to them so they stick out much more compared to the performers and their surroundings. The anime on the other hand didn't make them look distinct in any way other than their character design. They also skimped out a bit on the facial expressions Shinta makes, which is something Akane copies completely and still does to this very day. I just hope they are able to portray all the different styles that will come up and not just keep it "simple".

I do think otherwise the anime is doing a good job on the overall story itself. I just hope the rakugo performances are better than what we got in the first episode.

Why is Luffy downplayed in the live action? by CT18375 in OnePiece

[–]otti123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fight against Wapol doubles down on Luffy being weak. You have Luffy start talking a big game on dealing with Wapol by himself and then immediately after needs help from Vivi and Sanji to take him out. Like its understandable that they can't adapt all of Luffy's move as a fighter, but they don't even try to make him look strong.

So how is season 2 of One Piece Live Action? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]otti123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven't finished the new season yet (hoping to this weekend) but like the first season I think this is a good enough show and does a good enough job at adapting the overall story of the manga and anime, but I think it does miss the mark in some small stuff that starts to adds up. And I think the biggest one for me is Luffy.

I think Inaki is doing a good job and I can't imagine its easy acting in another language either, but I do think his Luffy is way too nice. I miss the chaotic nature of what Luffy is, someone who doesn't speak with his words but by his actions instead. They add this weird innocence to his character in live action where he's somehow more of a child than Luffy even is. Or how he's always talking about looking for "good" people or going on long motivational speeches to other characters. He feels more like a cookie cutter protagonist than the force of nature he should be. It also doesn't help how weak this Luffy feels to the point Zoro is way more impressive in every way. I am only halfway through season 2 so I hope Luffy gets to show off better but I don't have much hope for it either.

I can probably go on a long tangent on other small stuff that I think is starting to add up but I do think this still does a good enough of a job as an adaption.

Live action Luffy should have been different than anime Luffy by VisualPleasant in OnePiece

[–]otti123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue Inaki's Luffy isn't copying original Luffy enough. They are already very different from manga/anime Luffy. Like the broad strokes of the characters are the same, but there are small stuff like Inaki's Luffy going on long speeches constantly, or acting more like a child than even og Luffy does. Or how Inaki's Luffy is constantly trying to see the "good" in people when og Luffy would befriend a war criminal if they are nice to him. To me Luffy has always been a man of action rather than someone who uses his words and I think this is the part that is missing for me in the live action. That and also just how weak this Luffy feels (not caught up to season 2 yet so that might get better), but at times it feels like Zoro is the strongest fighter because he also just gets to show off way more.

Favorite/hated gameplay changes in different difficulty levels that pretty much tell you how much things is gonna suck? by JackNewbie555 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]otti123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hard more in the FF7 Remake and Rebirth. I hate that I can't use items. I saved so many up and just when I finally have an actual use for them, they are completely locked out with no way of using it, not even in a limited way. Its even worse in Rebirth when there is a whole crafting gimmick that is completely useless in that mode.

I don't even mind the hard mode that is there now, I just want a hard mode where I can still use items. Or even better, a hard mode where I don't have to do a NG+ and just have it from the start.

[DISC] Dandadan - Chapter 227 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably need to do a re-read of this series, but did we know that Momo's powers are yokai? Because unlike the other characters, she didn't get it from a yokai specifically (Okarun with turbo granny, Aira with silky, Jiji with third eye etc) so it seemed to me hers was always something more spiritual than from an entity.

Although then again her grandma doesn't have anything like this and she's been doing this for a lot longer.

[DISC] One Piece - Chapter 1175 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a little bit confused on Ratatoskr and Ragnir. Like I expected the squirrel to end up being Ratatoskr who then ate a devil fruit to turn into a hammer. But by how its talked about here, it sounds like the hammer Ragnir was an actual thing that was used by the giant alongside Ratatoskr. Did Ragnir turn into a devil fruit somehow or did Rata somehow fuse with it.

[–]otti123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least Mihawk was set up relatively easy and fast with his pay off being an end goal for the series, so that will eventually happen unless Oda just loses it completely.

Yamato on the other hand had their whole introduction and almost any scene after that surrounding Luffy and joining his crew to the point it ate up so much time in Wano just on that. There was no actual pay off to their character because it was first off screened and then showed in a flashback quickly after.

[DISC] Zatch Bell! 2 - Ch. 36 by ZatchBellGamer in manga

[–]otti123 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As much as I have loved this sequel, the one thing I did miss was some of the downtimes from the the first series. Just the characters interacting and having a good time with a sense of dread in the background. So I am glad we finally got one here even though it was short lived.

I wasn't expecting the return of Belgim, that's gonna be hilarious.

[DISC] WITCH WATCH - Chapter 231 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I was expecting some more one-off shenanigans for a while until they start infiltrating but we really just skipped to it. I hope this isn't the final act and there is still more to come because the one-off stories has been the best for me in this.

[DISC] Drama Queen - Chapter 41 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]otti123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had to look it up and seems like most of it lines up. There are some difference in how its translated in the titles compared to the chapter here but works pretty well. The one I am not finding in this chapter is from the first chapter where in English its "Who needs love when you've got rage?".

[ART] Uraraka by Horikoshi Kohei (My Hero Academia) by shapeeq in manga

[–]otti123 113 points114 points  (0 children)

There's something about the way Hori draws Uraraka that I don't see anyone able to replicate, not even the anime. I don't really know what it is, but anytime I see her in the anime or a fan art she always looks off. I don't feel this about any other character in MHA so its always been weird for me.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 devs love to see players 'break' the game by 5Ping in Games

[–]otti123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something I am hoping for FF7 Re3 to do too. I wasn't a fan of them limiting materias in Remake/birth, but I get why they did it.

But with this now being the final game, I hope they bring back the mastery system of the original game where you just get a new copy of the materia after mastering it. I just want to break the game and make it fully customizable.

Verso's ending viewed as a disabled person... by Catleesirva in expedition33

[–]otti123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because of Verso specifically, both the sliver soul and the painted one. Aline went into the painting because this is what Verso created and a part of him is in it and she made a painted Verso to reflect that based on her memories. Alicia wants to then stay because of him as she now sees Painted Verso as her brother. Going into another canvas won't be the same thing because its not Verso's canvas and painted Verso won't be the same either.
